The Absolute Most Disturbing Villain of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Ойын-сауық

Today we break down the absolute most disturbing episode of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. Alessi is a creep who turns his opponents into children, and Polnareff has to come up with some pretty out of the box solutions to the situations he finds himself in.

"えらい" is something you'd often hear said to children in praising them, is often used so the creepy localization implications are accurate. It's one of those words that have multiple meanings but contextually it is common to hear in a specific "adult to child" context, and you've probably run across it a few times if you've seen enough anime. With people of comparable ages, or adult to adolescent, you'd probably hear a different type of praise such as "よくやった " or "おつかれ". I'm not a huge expert on it in particular but it really seems like it's a phrase that if you said it to an adult it'd be kinda weird. Sethan having a design directly inspired by Tetsujin 28 also may be a subtle hint that he's supposed to have "that" implication... Because you know where the slang word "shotacon" derives from? Because it's not just a word that popped out of nowhere, it was a direct reference to a specific character that got expanded into a classification. Said character? The young boy, Kaneda Shotaro... The main character of Tetsujin 28.

Moreover, I've never heard anybody uses "えらいねぇ" outside of adult praising child context like ever so I was pretty confused by "the deep dive speculation" thing ngl lmao. Yes, Sethan is a creep however you read or watch in Japanese. But also remember, Jojo part 3 was written in 90s. The time when manga authors were given pretty much free reign over how they portrayed violence and crime. Sethan might be the most creepy guy in Jojo but not certainly other mangas from the similar time. 😂

Alessi is not a pedophile. Yes, he acts creepy, but that's sort of it. He doesn't try anything... creepy to children. It'd be more accurate to call him a bully; he kills/torments children because they're small and weak. His Stand turns people into children to make them weak. If he was a child rapist, JoJo would have shown it. Forever is an incredibly intelligent orangutan that lusted after a 12-year-old girl. Angelo is a serial murderer and serial rapist, who raped and murdered 3 boys. One of Fugo's professors tried to molest him and got beat with an encyclopedia as a result. Alessi is a sadistic bully. He doesn't gain satisfaction from children specifically, but from torturing and hurting people weaker than him.

I personally interpreted Polnareff's refusal to speak to her as his way of keeping her safe. He didn't want to drag her into another situation like that and endanger her, like how he chastised Abdul for trying to interfere before he got shot protecting him and Polnareff sobbing and how he begged Iggy to let him die so that he could escape alive. It never weirded me out, if anything I thought it was very consistent.

Native Japanese speaker here. The phrase えらいね (erai ne) means "What a good kid!" or "How kind of you!". It's commonly used by adults to children in a friendly manner. In the case of Alessi, he's obviously using it in an ironic, sarcastic way to look down on the children he's talking to. I think "Attaboy" was a good translation. I've watched all of the anime from part 1 to part 6. In my opinion, Alessi doesn't give the vibe of a m*lester. But instead, I think he's a sadist who likes to beat children. I'm half Japanese half American who grew up partly in the US and mostly in Japan, and regularly use both languages. So I thought I could give my insight. I have first hand experience of having been told えらいね (erai ne) by some nice Japanese old ladies in my childhood.

The thing about Japan having no issues with little boy dongs being visible is that it's really used for comedy (you know, the whole "haha he's now naked" gag) and since little boy penises are drawn with as little detail as posible (it's literally one semicircle inside another one) it's not considered to be explicit or sexual. It's why, for example, in Dragon Ball there were so many gags with Goku with his pants down, because Dragon Ball was originally more of a comedy. And it's not even a thing exclusive to Japan as you can find that kind of gag in stuff like South American media like comic strips like Mafalda and Turma Da Monica.

In Japan as a whole, nudity was considered average. What usually matters is context, usually comedy. And there's some shows that has female breasts on full display, but treated as fairly average and not sexual. Elfen Lied is the first that comes to mind.

To me, while yes, Allessi is a creep. It seems as though his ability really only comes from an inferiority complex... He is extremely weak, and from his attitude in the story, we can see that he likes to beat up kids because he can. It gives him this sick power trip, knowing that he can beat up a small child, but, he specifically goes out of his way to make sure that there are no adults around before he tries bullying a kid because he knows that if an adult is around, then he will absolutely get beaten to a pulp. That's where I believe his ability comes from. He doesn't believe himself capable of defeating anyone unless they are a child, so he gained an ability that allows him to turn adults into children so he can beat them...

To be honest, I grew up in Japan and the point is that it's weird because we understand Kira's intention. Not of anything sexual but because we know Kira has intentions to harm was is just a child and posing it in one of the most vulnerable state. The framing of family taking a bath doesn't have to be weird [in personal opinion] from a cultural standpoint but the scene is written to make the audiences uncomfortable and scared knowing Kira's motivation.

I sorta took this episode as an allegory for child abuse. With Polnareff being thrown into a sudden uncomfortable situation that he didnt entirely understand, the woman wanting to help the clearly distressed Polnareff but he won't tell her whats wrong. Plus him using her as a shield "He wont hurt me if shes around" and him always hoping he isn't just around the corner to harm him.

I always liked Alessi a lot, as a character and its design (the Stand looks extremely cool). I also played the fighting game where he is playable so that made me appreciate him more, lol. Something most people don't talk about is how Alessi has one of the strongest stands in all of Jojo, but it's nerfed because of the user's intelligence, like Okuyasu. If Alessi wasn't..... Alessi, he would've swiftly killed all crusaders, with a tiny bit of planning. But he can't because he has an irrational fear of adults, and a love for scaring the weak (he plays with his food...), which is also his downfall. But somehow these flaws work because you can already see that they come from mental insanity and would be harder to overcome, and that makes it a lot more believable rather than just using its Stand inefficiently (which he actually doesn't, Seth is used in very smart ways imo) or being dumb (like Okuyasu's excuse). I also really liked when he jumped through the window and instantly tried to act it out as being a civilian, to trick Jotaro, hell it even worked (altough he lost anyways) so he really tried his best to play dirty until the very end, and I appreciate that in a minor antagonist.

17:20 it was hard to watch but I could barley manage it while screaming obscenities about the writers at the screen to help me power through the pain. Alessi, coral and wirlpool are characters that I hate because it was pure uncomfortable pain for a long stretch of time because the idea of harming children in fiction while not having anything to say or anything real to depict is just unwatchable to me, even if they depicted something realistic and had an opinion to share it would still be torture to engage with the fiction.

This is the episode, unlike a lot of people, look forward too, seeing how the creepiest one of the 9 gets the creepiest stand that wild fit his character, and the shinning reference is always fun to see. The fact that Alessi got outsmarted and punched by kidtaro was funny. And at last the double team on him as he flies off to space off this earth(he’s dead you can’t convince me otherwise) is just icing on the the cake and a well deserved defeat to a villain as gross as Alessi was. Sure it was no steely Dan beat down but still always funny to see Alessi get his ass handed to him after the torture he brought to Kidreff and the lady who took care of him.

Polnareff leaving the Nice Lady is probably for the best considering both their current, very dangerous mission, and Gravity bringing Stand users together. If she stayed near Polnareff too long, she might end up a victim to another evil Stand user like J. Geil. In fact, from a writing standpoint, I think it actually helps illustrate just how selfless Polnareff is because he knows the best way to protect here is the way Sherry could have been spared: not involving with him

Alessi highlights to me some of the best in what it meant to be a follower of Dio. Up until now it's very clear they often were not always good people, some it because they revered Dio in power and looks, some because they saw no other options, and mainly most simply were not good people just like Dio. Alessi is a sadistic bully who craves power and violence but has no means to obtain it on his own-- hence why every time Polnareff is able to continue standing against Alessi he makes him young in attempts to weaken and establish that power he wants to make him feel weak. He's not smart necessarily, and he does things because it's for personal gratifications unlike say N'Doul or even J. Darby who mainly did have some level of power on par with the heroes. Alessi is nothing more than a cheat, liar, and bully of kids which is important because I think overly highlighting how gross and creepy he in appearance and action if not actually predator still relates to how a child would most likely see this man. While Jojo is no stranger to outright showing the intentions of predatory characters Alessi to me is meant to be more horrific because we understand what he wants from kids and those weaker is to play with from the perspective of kids who don't know what his intentions are-- just that they are bad with the intent to harm.

10:50~ it’s socially acceptable to draw little boy dongs because little boys aren’t as sexualized or seen as inappropriate in Japan. I’d like to think most Japanese people have morals which is why they have the ability to create a scene with lil pol’s lil pole and not make it super weird because of that. In America, everything is bad and sexualizing is all too common. Basically it’s not that bad when you realize it’s two lines and nothing else. Two drawn lines to make a part of anatomy the majority of men and boys have. If it’s not sexual, it’s not that weird. Culture shock for sure, but it’s nothing to worry about basically.

IDK man, the whole taking in some totally random kid, getting naked with them, then washing their genitals, is kinda... odd for that "nice lady" to do. IDK, maybe it's more normal in the rest of the world or because she's a beautiful "nice lady" that makes people okay with this. But, why are people okay with this?

Alessi is actually pretty likable in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Heritage For The Future. In that game, he’s portrayed as a down-on-his-luck guy who got payed by dio to assassinate a group of strange men. He’s foolish, clumsy, and pretty weird, but overall he’s not a disgusting monster.

Ah I clicked on this video because the Google translated version of jojo got to this arc recently and I saw saw the thumbnail and was like oh that's the panel where alessi says "the baby is you". Anyway I was talking with some of the people who work on that series before hand and the topic of why araki had to put in so many scenes where children are put in sexual? situations. This arc, strength ect. I think this video did a good job giving a reason why, that being it ties into Polnareff's back story and how sherry was sexually assaulted and killed by J geil. I don't really think the topic was handled that great but also I don't believe araki to be that kind of mangaka. There is one thing that I hard disagree on though. That being that the lady in the episode is "nice". I think she's more creepy than alessi actually. She took a child off the street without knowing who they are or who their parents are, took then in her house and undressed them. Even if polnareff was hurt or not shouldn't she be calling the police. She also didn't stop polnareff for making advancements on her, like the average minecraft youtuber or whatever. Really I was expecting this part to click when the point about thinking she was secretly alessi idea was brought up. Also I think the lady has a canon name but also I don't care for her enough to look it up lol
