@@Yumbos AI wasn't capable of that kind of work back in 2008. It's probably just underpaid interns/assistants whose mistakes slip under the radar until it's too late. These things happen. DBZ still gets printed with the original toner screen mistakes made by assistants, for example.

another problem i like to point out about the colored jojo scans is that they often ignore the actual shading araki does with screentones, every time araki uses screentones to put shadows on the character's faces the shadows are often ignored and the faces are shaded as if theres no shading done by araki himself

One thing I feel needs to be mentioned is that despite the anime having "consistent" color schemes, they still use a _lot_ of scenes where they completely upend the color scheme into someting visually striking, especially in a tense scene (which, admittedly, is 90% of Jojo). Not just in a sense of "Giorno has blue hair now" but rather "Joseph Joestar is a pulsing rainbow gradient covered in halftone". Absolutely fabulous. Still can't get over the bold artistic decision to have Morioh covered in yellow skies, lime green streets and deep purple trees for the majority of the anime.

I agree. I think a good part of that is in part due to the the quality if the scans, if I were reading the actual manga then I'm sure the details would be a lot clearer, but with the scans I was checking out a lot of the action scenes seemed really busy and it was hard to make out exactly what was going on. Another thing is that I'd switch between my phone and my laptop, and reading the black and white on a phone just makes the issue worse (which Hamon Beat mentioned in the video). In any case I always took the colored versions to be non-canon since most JoJo characters don't have things like canon outfit/hair colors, so it's never been an issue for me to see the anime portray characters one way while the manga portrays them another, and the random flaws in the coloring don't really bother me when I'm reading.

I especially noticed it at first in the arc with Mandom. Personally I find some of the colored pages such as Tusk Act 4's reveal to be very pretty. Things like how KC's time skip dimension is portrayed in the colored scans also made it feel easier for me to process what's going on in the page. Part 5 really benefits with colour, part of the reason why the Manga version was one of my least favourite Manga Parts for a while was because of the black and white scans making Scenes and Arcs nearly impossible to follow. Like, you tell me that Man in the Mirror, White Album, Bruno vs Diavolo (King Crimson especially fucks me off in the Manga) and Oasis are easy to follow in B&W. I love how in Araki’s own illustrations Stands are drawn just as realistic and detailed as the real humans, showing that in the JoJo’s universe they do look “real” to Stand Users and not cheesy ghosts. The fact that the later parts get such monotonous colour schemes for them also bugs me.

You're not quite the only one. When it comes to getting into manga, especially if you're used to anime or even stuff like your average American comic books, the black and white is a bit of a pill to swallow whether it's you basically going against how in most instances we're trained to view black and white as either a sign of ye olden times or as a sign of a lack of budget and sometimes... the art can be a struggle whether you have actual diagnosed problems that impede on this or it could just be a matter of experiences varying from person-to-person. Much like how one person can view a piece of art as great and another as a piece of garbage, some people can adapt quickly to the detail and know what's going on from the get-go and others may struggle and on devices that can be tricky. I mean it's why the Jump Digital Color stuff exists because indeed when trying to read on certain devices, let me tell you, it can be HELL on the eyes trying to figure out what's going on. So really, don't feel bad for your choice, especially since the video is not about putting down those who happen to have that preference. It's just about explaining the source of the scans, the purpose they serve and the issues they have to counter the misconceptions that surround them. If you prefer it a certain way though then by all means, continue enjoying it in that manner since what matters is that you're still getting into the story and hopefully enjoying it all the same.

I understand the whole problem of coloring mistakes, of course clothes shouldn't be skin colored or vice versa. However, the point about it being blurry is a misunderstanding. It appears to be more blurry because of contrast, not because of bad lines or less lines. Black and white will always look clearer than colored images, since the contrast is lower in the colored ones.

Not entirely. The anime doesn't look blurry (albeit definitely less detailed), because they use flats for coloring instead of color gradients. Color gradients may be more realistic, but often make surfaces look softer than the linework may suggest. The color scans definitely look airbushed.

I think part of the issue is that some of the easily available BW scans, especially for Part 1, are of pretty poor quality, to the point that it’s often difficult to tell what’s actually going on because the contrast’s way too high. I restarted Part 1 in color because the BW was genuinely confusing at times, and from there I kinda just stuck with it until I caught up with Jojolion.

Now it just frustrates me, because it's very clear Araki is a master of color and design, but what's portrayed in the colored manga is nowhere near his mastery for colors. If anything, I think people should realize that Araki experiments with color schemes ALL of the time, and anyone who's a fan of his should too experiment with their palettes and be loose when making fanart. And if you don't know how too or are too timid to experiment, I recommend the book "A Dictionary of Color Combinations" by Sanzo Wada.

Take a look at any of physical copies for the the volumes. It’s extremely clear and don’t have to worry about stuff like saturation and brightness on your phone. Plus, if you go to Barnes & Noble, you get a really cool looking book.

In hindsight, I realize it was just because I was reading it on a phone, and like you pointed out, the colored pages look better on a phone. Looking at the same B&W pages either on a bigger screen or physically in your hands make it so much clearer and a genuinely better experience than the colored pages on a phone, and *infinitely* better than colored pages on anything other than a phone.

He's basically half purple, half garish yellow. And the worst thing has to be the twirls in hir hair which barely stand out by being also purple, while in every single page with him that Araki coloured, his twirls are always a very distinctive colour from his hair.

reading in black and white threw me off a little bit, but now i dont really have a problem with it anymore. However i would always prefer the coloured manga over the black and white one, simply because i like it better. The points you made were valid, however one shouldnt bash people for enjoying the coloured manga more (OBVIOUSLY)

I like how the Anime occasionally references the Colorized Manga's palettes for some characters, like Jotaro's Alternate Part 3 Color Scheme, shown during Dio's Time Stops, and how he has the navy hair and clothes, with the magenta-esque shirt.

It’s perfectly fine !! It’s a preference on how you wanna read the manga. For example, I read black and white manga for my entire life, and it’s the way I preferred my comic. But you preferred colored because it’s making ur experiences better than with black and white. Nothing wrong :D
