You could build 10 different top fives and they would all be brilliant that’s how strong serie a was For me, Baresi, Van Basten, Baggio, Batigol and Vialli. Picking these legends isn’t necessarily because they were the best but they had moments and many of them where they were wonderful. Van Basten 91-92 season was outstanding finishing with 25 goals in 34 games and staying injury free. Baresi marshalled Milan to only conceding 15 goals in 34 games. Batigol staying with Fiorentina even when in Serie B and helping them gain promotion again and being a machine throughout the 90’s. Baggio winning the ballon D’or due to his efforts in the league and in Europe with juventus. All class that period. Vialli during that 90-91 season winning Serie a with Sampdoria huge against the traditional powerhouse teams

Whats always struck me was the combination of talents in EVERY single team. Besides the well known ac milan, Juventus n inter there were incredibly fun teams such as parma with buffon, thuram, cannavaro n crespo. Fiorentina with rui Costa and batistuta, brescia for a period had a young pirlo with an old baggio and the legend mazzone as their manager. Lazio had stam, mihajilovic, nedved and nesta, roma with totti, cassano, Cafu, montella and Batistuta. And this is just 2000's, when serie a was losing its dominance. If you go back to the 90's n 80's you realize how dominant it really was. A balon d'or winner Van Basten was expected to be a bench option when he first joined ac milan, same story goes for papin almost 10 years later. Pick the greatest players from the 80's to the late 00's, 90% of whoever gets picked has had an important phase of his career in italy. So sad thinking i couldn't live it irl but just on old videos n stories.

@@sgt_chugganuggz Baggio did all that with no knees from 20 though..Del Piero to be fair never recovered from his knee injury in late 90s so as good as he was he was after that he was still a shadow of what he could have been. I put Baggio and Del Piero in a bracket as second strikers. They are more comparable player wise although Baggio could cross over into the bracket Totti was. Totti being at his prime a classic pure playmaker. The traditional number 10. He was unique. When people say Del Peiro was better its because he won at Juve but Mr Juve himself (lippi) built the national team around Totti and that says it all. Totti and Spalletti invented the false 9 when Roma have an injury crisis. Essentially Totti had multiple careers and reinvented himself numerous times. The game today would try to control and box in such a creative talent. He wasn't worried about 99% pass accuracy with 5 yard side passes. He went for the insane killer pass nobody else seen. The game needs to make space for these players again or it will become too regimented. Everybody wants to be Pep, the grandmaster and the players just pawns but there has to be a compromise with unique genius players. Unfortunately, the overcoaching from 12 years old may knock that out of them. Hopefully some clubs, managers see and understand this in the time ahead or the game will suffer.

Back then it was much better than the Premier league. Probably between 4 to 6 teams better than Man U at the time.
That league was STACKED! Just look at the Parma 1999 team...inter 1998 team and the rest. Fiorentina, Jive, Milan, Roma, Lazio etc. Outstanding
Van Basten, Gullit, Baggio, Baresi and Matthaus would be alternative five. Another 5 I thought were underrated during that time were: Balbo, Vialli, Hassler, Signori and Zola.

Seria a in the 90 had all the stars in the World . It was so much fun to watch . Fotballers back then had more talent . You only mention 5 that you liked , but there were so many great great players . Baggio in the 90 was like Messi ... so special ! He played at the top level with only one knee . For me living in Italy I absolutley loveed Baggio . Codin Divino
The Serie A Seven Sisters (Juventus, the 2 Milan clubs, Roma, Lazio, Parma, Fiorentina) in the 90s were equivalent to the PL Top 6 today. Italian football back then was a huge banger!

80s 90s and early 2000s is the best with many competitors for ballon. Now we only 2 two guys play with each other.
As a ac milan fan watching Adriano play for inter was a thing of Beauty
90s Serie A is still the greatest period of football spectacle and collection of true world class players spread around 7 teams with legitimate shot to win the title. Not bad in Europe either, in 8 CL finals winning 3, in 9 on the Uefa Cup finals with 4 all Italian finals and won 7.
here in Brasil it was more common back then for TV channels to broadcast the Calcio than the UCL.. that’s how stacked this league once was 😢
Robert Baggio*THE MAN WHI DIED STANDING 😭 *
You didn't want to face an Italian team in the 90s.
Honorable mentions, Roberto Baggio, Jurgen Klinsmann, George Weah,
Italy was so loaded in the 90's that in 1994 Gabriel Batistuta (25), Oliver Bierhoff (26), Enrico Chiesa (23), Flippo Inzaghi (20), Christian Vieri (20), Gheorghe Hagi (29) and Stefan Effenberg (25) were all playing in Serie B.
You have to include Maradona, even if he was more of an 80s player, and was in Italy in the 90s for just two seasons before he left to Sevilla.

It’s unbelievable how far seria A Gad fallen now
Baggio ??
Lazio got 4 world class defender that time
The Italian league in the 90s was way better then the Premier league today thhe amount of ballers was absolutely insane what a time that was to be alive
It really was a magical time for football. So many unbelievable players. Special mention for Recoba!
That Fiorentina kit had a 1940's vibe
Baggio and Batistuta were the men when I watched football Italia. Can't believe no van Basten on the list as well
You missed Roberto Baggio in the 90’s he was awesome
Also during the 80s and the 90s, there are a lot of Italian stars. Aside from the foreign stars like Rijkaard, Van Basten, Davids, Trezeguet, Zizou, R9, Nedved and the likes, they are also producing Italian stars. Actually even at 2000s. 2010s and later, there are only 1 to 3 Italians on every team which affects their national team.
They were legends playing in the 90s
seedorf criminaly underrated
80s also with Maradona, Baresi, Maldini, Van Basten and more great players.
My favourites are maldini, Batigol, Roberto baggio, vialli, Leonardo

It was probably the best league at the time. It was amazing. Also, they had the GOAT himself. Pierluigi Collina

90's Seri A was Supreme. Epl was more entertaining. That's how it was seen
Serie A thoose years was more like a Legue as tough as the nowdays CL.... All the best players in the entire World played in Serie A... and all the strongest players from other Nations too... not only Dutch, French, Brazilians or Argentinians... but also the top players from evrywere, Japan, Africa, Slavic Countries... I think 90/2000 Serie A was better than nowdays Premier, maybe also for the type of game we had in the past and for the personality of old school players... all about pride and honor, not like nowadays only trophies and money 🤷♂️

Juventus was the best team in the world in the 90’s, so unlucky they lost two out of three straight UCL finals, also watching the match again you can see the countless ref mistakes against them in the game especially vs Dortmund in ‘97 but in part also against Real in ‘98
