Very. I'd put it as the third most epic checkmate. second place: mate by promoting a pawn to a knight first place: en passant mate.

Not really that good because after Rook takes Queen, Kings goes to G6 and white is losing the bishop on the next move. So the advantage won is only 2 pawns.
Checkmate with king my favorite! Anand was very imaginative!
I have to say Anand's move in the 5th example was stunning, but I don't know if it qualifies as a discovered check

it is not discovered check but discovered to start attack on king

A wonderful collection! Thanks.
I’m kind of amazed Bobby Fischer vs Donald Byrne didn’t make it on. I mean it’s been talked about to death so it’s inclusion definitely isn’t necessary, but it’s inarguably a fantastic example of this technique
4:37 would be more badass if 0-0-0# but I assume that either the rook or the king has been moved before. Such a missed opportunity.

Yes! My favorite game and one of the few I remember, I knew I had a winning position if I could just spot it because I had a discovered check coming up. I realized what I had to do was offer a seeming sacrifice, but he never got to take it because the next move after the discovered check was a back row checkmate with a rook and a knight.
amazing job brother keep doing this stuff
I really like this top 5 series by Simon!!
Thank you for posting amazing games. Nice presentation. Congratulations 🎉
3 rd one is my favorite... Thank you
That windmill rook was actually brilliant I would have take the queen without taking the pawns but I guess I'm wrong
Kasparov and Anand games were brilliant
Tysm for these videos, exciting way to learn from the masters.
3:40 is art an drama. What a story that mate is
I recently had a game where I had a pawn move forward, which released my bishop onto the opposing king for check, and on the other diagonal, it released my queen onto my opponent's undefended queen

5th one isn’t a discovered check. Absolutely beautiful move but technically not a discovered check.
@ananaysood48
3 жыл бұрын
It's the most difficult of the 5 technically if he hadn't played h6
Finally vishawanath anand made it to your video 😃
The final game could have also been played as : after the black pawn captures h6 White rook to e6, pawn takes rook, bishop to g6, pawn takes bishop, queen takes black queen, black rook to g8, bishop to h6 No matter what black moves next, white will checkmate black in 1-3 moves.
3:50 first thing I saw was Knight takes bishop check. If they take with queen it’s mate as queen takes pawn. If they take with room it’s check when queen takes pawn and it has 1 move then it’s mated. If they take with pawn then that is saved
I'd have to say the windmill -- because it was 3 discovered checks in one! Lol. Excellent, thx.

thanks for the videos mate ! (from Canada)

Absolutely amazing moves! Love that windmill technique, feels so satisfying to pull one off. Suggestion: best underpromotion moves?
@kckcmctcrc

Ditto...also instead of going for the Queen with G5 when he did, I'd have taken the Pawn on A7 first, then back into the windmill with G7, THEN G5 grabbing the Queen.

Regarding underpromotions...check out 'Grandmasters and Engines couldnt solve this Puzzle, then came the magician'....pretty interesting puzzle solved by Tal..with a double under promotion (knight) for a failed defense.
Another famous discover attack was Kasparov Vs Karpov game 11 1985 when Karpov infamously doubled his rooks on the d-file and Kasparov played Qxd7
4:54. If there was live commentary, oh to be able to call out "and White castles for the win!!!" A phrase having never been uttered before or since, I bet.
Bishop g6!! It would take 50 million years to me find this move.
Those discovered checks were amazing!!
lol seriously liked this guy plus 4th one was epic but the 3rd one is next level CHESS
The 3rd one is outstanding!!!
Castling checkmate would've been such a low blow
It's so difficult to choose the favourite, they were all beautiful
we need more such videos from our ginger beard of knowledge
Lasher vs Thomas, I prefer the checkmate that was used, rather than the castling move, as mate was given by a piece that had not been involved previously, and that did not move when giving mate. Classic!
Anand has a beautiful mind
1:24 When I saw the bishop on g5 I realized the check mate on d8 and it made like boom
5:45 well known match Rxc2!! 6:53 this match also known Bg6 etc.
you mentioned there’s a couple of ways to win at 4:27 what would be the other ways to win ?

In Anand vs Lautier notice that h6 was actually a superfluous move. The black bishop can also go the other way and check on a3. As there is no way to structurally interpose this it leads to the same style checkmate. I saw this but it was also confirmed by Magnus Carlsen who did the Vishy quiz on his 50th birthday.
Kasparov vs Anand was hella sick
Famous example of losing game, by move with any word grandmaster will always avoid. In Polish. Król bije konia w obecności Królówki.
2:13 was in yasser seriwans "winning chess tactics" book

Mind blowing
I did manage a windmill in an online game, took 3 of my opponents pieces with my Rook, but upon later analysis, it showed missed wins. I had mate in one in the first move apparently.
Discovered checks are my favorite. Most of my opponents never see them coming.
