    People get mad about some of your finance videos because you're telling them what they've been told is a lie and they've been wasting their lives. They'd rather save their world-view by denouncing the vids as false than accept the consequences of the vid being true. If you believe what you say is the truth, put it out there. The people you help with it gain so much from it that's it's worth the negativity of a few.

    One of things I’ve enjoyed about this book is that Ferriss makes clear you’re not here to replace the other 36 hours in the week with idle time, but on the things in life that you WANT to do. Skills you want to learn, places you want to visit, get closer to your family, the things in life that MATTER to YOU that you “never had time” to get to!

    I'm not much of a reader but this book was a huge impact on my life. I may not have implemented all the concepts just yet but I'm on the way. It's been years now and the principles I gained from this book have helped me in many ways: 1. I live on a low-information diet. I don't follow the news with the great fervor I used to and I'm much happier and productive because of it. 2. I outsource all the time. The fact that I could do the work myself only makes me a better outsourcer because I know how to effectively communicate what kind of work I need and I know when someone is trying to fool me. 3. I am working towards selling a thing instead of selling hours of my life. Constantly asking myself what my time is worth to me has changed a lot of my decisions as to what work I chose to do. Great summary!!

  • @DStash

    @DStash

    9 жыл бұрын

    kenhimurabr Just because you are complacent with a system (capitalism) and accept the way it functions, doesn't make it good. Slaves were purchased at a flat rate then profited off of. Modern day employees are paid a fraction of the money they generate for the companies that they work for (or that own them). Really capitalism in a nutshell is exploitation on a grand scheme. Most employees work the conditions that their employers enforce on them, rather than have much agency in what they do and how they do it. The abundance of workers in most fields essentially guarantees that people will perpetually be underpaid and taken advantage of. But you are correct, people should be profited off of, because they don't deserve the fruits of their own labor. The owner of their company needs all of that money to purchase additional sports cars and mansions. I do recognize that there are companies founded on hard work that heavily reward their employees, but they are quite rare and typically small.

    Thanks for the summary. If in fact that is the main message, then here are the issues 1) Value can be very subjective, and sometimes you will not have something valuable, but even if you do 2) Selling can be very difficult, the market can be overcrowded, you need good customer support 3) Outsourcing can be done, no problem, but when humans are involved, then there is an overhead to managing and making sure the tasks are properly done. In fact, you will be doing lots of administration work, and sure, that can be reduced as the process is perfected and fine tuned, but that will not happen to all.

    This concept also applies to telecommuting. When you can take your job with you, your life can be much better. I moved my family from a more expensive city in southern California (where we could barely afford rent) to a much less expensive city in northern California and we were able to keep our income. Now we own two properties, two cars and have a nice life. Take the bus to your rental apartment and worry about groceries, or drive one of your cars to the two-story house you own with a fully stocked fridge and pantry? Make your kids share a bedroom, or own a place big enough that they each get their own room AND they have a play room for all of their toys? Hope your old phone lasts until you get your free upgrade, or buy a new phone whenever you need one? Life can be good...if you know how to live it.

    Well for some, the life style of living in a big city is worth the cost. One thing this video doesn't talk about. The value you place in your environment is a big deal. Same thing is true with family. I like most 30yo's have a GF and a child. In no way would we live in some poverish country. It doesn't work when raising a family. Same goes for living in some small country town somewhere in the midwest. Sure you can have a good job, make a bunch of money and live in a nice house. But again you are hours away from any major city. I myself am an hour away from Chicago, but I have no desire to move in that direction. I'd tell you right now. Making only 30k and living in some poor county. Its not a live style most people want. But for someone that wants to run away from the real world, and avoid the normal "Family Life". Go for it

But now, since I started KZread, I want to find it at my home, so I can read the whole book again. I really like the way of thinking of Tim Ferris.

    2022 person here. This absolutely works. Have a product that generates about $1000 a month(In my country, that middle-class income) and I only spend literally 1 hours at most per week on it. However, it required 3 months, 40-80 hours work weeks, to create the product. May not be a millionaire but money is money

However, I did learn a lot from all that research, and as a result I'll be able to make content a lot faster in the future. This video was very well done and I still learned something new. :3

    oh man, if I could have a dollar for every time I've heard someone say "Oh the 4HWW, that's so stupid. How could anyone work 4 hours a week." And I'd try to explain the concepts. But then I gave up. If someone wants to judge a book by a title then why should I care? But FightMediocrity has done such a great job at summerizing the book whilst taking care to not to get too hypey, you've just got to watch it. Love the cartoony style - this style is his business which he uses as an example when explaining concepts in the book.

    “For all of the most important things, the timing always sucks. Waiting for a good time to quit your job? The stars will never align and the traffic lights of life will never all be green at the same time. The universe doesn't conspire against you, but it doesn't go out of its way to line up the pins either. Conditions are never perfect. "Someday" is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you. Pro and con lists are just as bad. If it's important to you and you want to do it "eventually," just do it and correct course along the way.” ― Timothy Ferriss, The 4-Hour Workweek. Thank you for the really great summary :)

    I agree in that that video does a much better job of summarizing the book, whereas this vid is mainly just rambling, but I still don't think that the actual contents of the book are all that valuable. The idea is certainly intriguing, but there are a lot more details that have to be dealt with in order to make this a reality. I think that most people need an actionable guide on how to do this, instead of a blueprint.
