Also, before Floor joined Nightwish, she was still recovering from her burnout and if I remember correctly, she hadn't performed in a long time during her burnout period and that for sure affected her voice as well. She has said that singing is what keeps her voice in shape and well, we could see how her voice got better and better the more she performed with Nightwish. The rest is history.

How much are you stretching with this one? Bad fan cam videos. As you said, all early Floor in probably just first 5 or 10 performances, which I did not find anything wrong with, just obviously learning the bands style. Annette - never mind. Tarja, that first sounded like her voice was blown - it happens. What was the point of this? Don't become that channel living off of negative click bate.

About Anette in this video: She was not having a good moment on the Amaranth performance, especially with the band (which was really bad) commiting some mistakes. That part on Slaying The Dreamer was not made for her, and this was one of her first attempts, she did better in a performance from Montreal in 2007, where she adapted that part a little for her voice. In Dark Chest of Wonders, she was a little bit sick (the whole show from Sidney wasn't very good, even on the DPP songs). And for Nemo, her voice is already High Pitched, so sing even higher notes sound a little unconfortable, I think the same happens in Over The Hills and Far Way, but I feel like she didn't have a choice, Tuomas probably wanted to keep like the original, or at least try. But she is an amazing singer, I enjoy Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum a lot, I am grateful that she joined the band and spent a good time making good music with them.

@@fnafstic That's a lot of excuses for a lot of songs. BTW, Floor has played through bad sickness and flus many times but she is frankly much tougher and the audiences probably never knew....

Mistakes happen to everyone, humans are not perfect and that is ok. Each one brought their best to the band and made amazing albuns and tours. Respect for all of them ❤️

Well Tarja's earpiece was not working , she stopped the performance twice but still she had to sing without hearing herself properly

Give Floor a break because she had to recover from a burn out. She did a good job trying to adapt to Nightwish’s repertoire and had to learn their set list in 48 hours. Now she has become the Valkyrie Queen and still has to deal with her cancer therapy. All the best and well wishes to you Floor 💗🔥🙌🏻💪🏻💜💗🤟🏻👏🏻

and you really believe that? Tarja sounds like she was unable to hear the monitors. it happens. Anette has always been a struggler, but funnily enough you chose the ones that are not THAT bad and then there is Floor....still puzzled what you saw wrong with her😅

that's true. In this case though (Ever Dream) I don't think she struggled. She did high-pitch phrasing, there is nothing wrong with it and she did it in this way, it sounds good to my ears :D

Something that was never understood about Anette is that she was using a technique called belting which is very loud, deep singing from the throat, quite similar to yelling. As a professional vocalist I know, and have fallen prey, to this when trying to get volume in a loud room. It works on low notes, but it is not possible to sing higher notes with it. It is so damaging that even a little belting destroys pitch and tone for the rest of the night. This is why once poor Anette gets to "Nemo" she cannot make it. You can hear her trying to belt it - yell it - out. With great mic responsiveness and the band not blowing her off the stage, she would not have struggled like this with her voice type. She could have then made high notes as you can hear on her records. It never happened to Tarja, as she just didn't belt at all, and her sound was adjusted accordingly. Her mistake in this is a monitor problem.

Omg people, no one is perfect, not even Floor. Nightwish asks a lot of their singers, they all do great, but crap happens

@@alegria6771 That interview was about the first public show after Anette joined Nightwish . In that show her performance were really amazing but there's no HQ video of it . Anette has a lot of good lives in Nightwish but what most people see are during 2008 when she had her voices hurt badly from non-stoping performances before , and she also divorced and lost the custody of her two children but she also insisted the whole world tour . Even though her technique is poorer than Tarja and Floor , she had made a lot of contributions to Nightwish , I don't think laughing and speaking something sarcastically at her without knowing these things are polite and appropriate .

I have a theory - maybe she’s not that great of a person and someone in authority decided she was the least suitable parent in that relationship. Stop being a prejudiced apologist!

dunno about the other 2 but apparently Floor just needed like 2 days to get into it and adjust, and she was fine. To be fair though, a lot of singers sound like Annette live, pretty astounding for a live singer of pop band number 393....

That was the first week of Floor in the band hahhahaha. Floor is perfect

What a lot of people don't realize is they keyed a lot of the old songs down for Floor. I believe most of the clips of Floor here are probably from when she had just joined the band and she was trying to sing the songs in the same key Tarja did. Obviously that didn't work for her. As for Anette, I honestly believe that tuomas never intended for Anette to be the permanent vocalist of Nightwish. A lot of people don't know that it was planned for Tarja to leave Nightwish, but not at the time she did. It was planned that she would do another album and another tour with them. That would have 2 or maybe 3 more years. So, she was fired prematurely. Floor was probably planned to be her replacement at that time, but because of the premature firing, it meant an interim singer was needed. Anette was really not well suited for this style of music. tuomas isn't stupid. He had to have known this. So, why did he pick her? Because it would pave the way for Floor and make her look better. If Floor had directly stepped into Tarja's place, she would have been judged much more harshly. But by replacing Anette, who was really totally unsuitable, she was seen as a huge improvement. Understand, this isn't meant to attack or criticize Anette. It's just that Anette is a vastly different style vocalist and as such she was not a good choice for this type of music. In other words, tuomas set her up for failure and he was utilize that failure for his own gain at her expense.

Floor has the same range as Tarja. The difference is that Tarja sings in head voice and Floor sings in chest voice most of the time. Chest voice is used when singing lower and head voice is used when singing high. Nightwish songs from Tarja era are pretty high, but they are well singable if you're using head voice. Floor has done incredible job singing the whole catalogue of Nightwish songs, because her voice can handle all of them and all kinds of singing styles, whether they are Tarja, Anette or her era songs which are basically everything between death growls and operatic singing. Her renditions of Tarja era songs have become significant, because she has used different singing styles and brought something special to every song. For example Ever Dream is specifically known sung by Floor: she sang the entire song in chest voice and belted out the last chorus like nothing. It's really hard to do considering that the key is pretty high throughout the song. The way Floor sings it, is much harder to do compared to the way Tarja sang it. The same goes to many other Nightwish songs that are not made for her, like Ghost Love Score, Dark Chest of Wonders, Romanticide, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Dead boy's Poem, Storytime, Song of Myself, Poet and the Pendulum etc... I think it tells something, that the singer after you can improve and take the songs written for you to a whole new level.

Where did Floor mess up? She sounded the best out of all of them.

Bit harsh on anette they were all early dpp tour she improved much more in 2009 onward... Floor was just getting used to the band.. tarja is the one that disappointed me most because she had had the most.time singing her song there is also a lot more than one video out there of her struggling

Floor can really sing. The shots you added from her are from her very first NW concerts. She not even knew all the lyrics perfectly by that time

Some remarks: Anette: no comment. Tarja: in general she has more pitch problems than Floor, but not as bad as this... Must have been a monitoring problem Floor: these recordings are from the very first few gigs of NW with Floor, after she had flown in on 48 hour notice, having to learn the setlist of 15 complex songs while traveling 5000 miles.... and during a tour where there is next to no opportunity to do rehearsals between gigs. Give the woman a break I would say!

Her breath support was weak in Ever Dream

Annette is not struggling she is trying to sing songs written for a soprano operatic classical voice. Each song was written for the current singer at the time.

Wow Tarja did not do good with Phantom of the Opera. What a difference with the End of an Era version. And Annette sooo out of tune

@@samuelmalk1469 Exactly! maintaining proper control of your voice requires feedback. You have to able to hear what you're singing. Ever heard a deaf person speak? It's the same thing. They can't hear how they sound. As for Floor, I think it was because she was trying to sing those songs in the same tune as Tarja. I think she tried at first. It's a well known fact, they had to down tune some of the songs for her voice (Everdream, stargazers, and maybe some others).

No, absolutely not. They all did beautifully. Forgetting lyrics happens to everyone, Anette had gained a lot of weight on that Amaranth performance (when you gain too much weight, you have to learn all your techniques from 0) and Floor had like 2 weeks in the band at those moments
