The 3-in-1 Book Cover Trick with Adobe InDesign CC 2018
Ғылым және технология
This tutorial shows you how to make a full cover for a print book in just ONE file, using InDesign CC (Creative Cloud) 2018. NO need for three separate files (front cover, back cover, spine). By simply using landscape orientation and two columns, you can create the entire cover in one file.
You then export the file as a press-quality PDF so it can be printed with a print-on-demand company like Lulu.com or Blurb.com, or a local professional printing company.
Techniques covered:
1. File set-up: trim size (dimensions), units, orientation, margins, bleed.
2. Insert an image: CMYK (not RGB), resolution (300 ppi), picture or image box, main selection tool (black arrow), direct selection tool (white arrow), fitting, fit content proportionally, view high quality display.
3. Insert text: create text box, change typeface, font, style, size, alignment, color picker, leading (line spacing).
4. Using layout guides: show or hide rulers, vertical guide, horizontal guide, preview and normal view.
5. Further text options: paste board, hyphenation on or off, paper color, space before or after paragraphs.
6. Spine text: how to rotate a text box for use on a book's spine.
7. Export a press-quality PDF: presets, marks and bleeds, the importance of checking the box "Use document bleed settings".

This tutorial was a lifesaver for me today! I am an editor who WAS unfamiliar with InDesign. I had to figure out how to make a cover, spine and back cover on the fly for my boss! I could not have done it without this tutorial! THANKS!
Wao! Been searching all day long for a tutorial on how to make a book. Cover using in design. This is the best tutorial among all, so simplified yet so precise. Thanks so much.
This tutorial made my day!

Very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much- this was very helpful- could u also do a video on how to generate a barcode for the ISBN
Great tutorial. Easy to follow, lots of tips. :-) I love to find an Aussie talking. I have one tip of my own (which you probably know of) Double click on text box corner handle will resize (shrink or expand) text box to fit text. This removes overset "red plus" indicator. Also a request for future posts. I am deaf and I rely on CC, so please minimise the amount of info on the bottom 1/4 of screen, because sometimes critical visuals are concealed by captions.
you are the best one person. very good lesson. i blessing Triple gem!!!!!!!!
Thanks a lot, fantastic
excellent teaching
How do you input the spine size into the design?
How to know spine size ?
Thank you
How can I know the size of the spine? what if its 200+ pages?
What was the point of putting the text on the spine area and then deleting it?
Good stuff. Will tr with my already created front and back. Good tips about the pesky spine, but I must go back bcs you went too fast...
This is excellent but how do you set the spine for a 200 page book????? I have watched 30 videos and that is not covered, unless I missed something???

Pardon my delayed reply. The exact size of the spine for a 200-page book will depend on the thickness of the paper used to print the book. So first contact the printer and choose your paper, then ask the company for the exact spine width. Lulu has a spine width calculator on its website for the paper you choose. Don't forget to include preliminary pages and endmatter in your page count. Let's say your spine is about 15 mm, you make the gutter 15 mm and add this width to the overall width of your book. There is an earlier video I did specifically on spine set-up called "Make a Print Book Cover - PART 4: The Book’s Spine, using Adobe InDesign CS6". Even though this is done in an earlier version of InDesign, the operations are almost identical. The URL: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fq2Vspqam8bYd6g.html

No it’s not necessary. This will just help you make it less obvious that you self published and your colors will not only be more consistent but you can do what you want. If you don’t do it yourself amazon will provide a fill in for you. It may not be exactly what you would do yourself and the colors may or may not match, but they will provide the fill in for you and it’s quicker
