The 2023 Honda HR-V EX-L AWD Is An Affordably Upscale-Like Small SUV

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

When #Honda brought the original #HRV to America back in 2016, it was late to the sub-compact SUV space and it brought some unique touches to the segment with its magic back seats taken out of the Honda Fit. For 2023, the #HondaHRV moves to the latest Civic platform, which means a larger vehicle overall, more refinement, more technology, and more power. The result is a more comfortable car to live with at an agreeable price.

At that price point, there should be _SO_ much more offered with this car. A better power train, power lift hatch, USB and arm rest for the back seats, etc. And I wish Honda had not gone away from the side mirror camera system. I use it all the time in my 14 Civic and consider it an excellent safety feature. So much missed on this new Gen.

Actually, I prefer the 17 inch wheels over the 18 inch wheels in the Sport trim. That’s because the trims with the trims with the 17 inch wheels have significantly tighter turning circle (35.1 ft vs 37 ft). Considering that the HRV can be an urban SUV, turning circle matters a lot (tight parking spaces, small street u-turns, etc.).

This kind of reminds me of a more refined version of a Mitsubishi Outlander Sport that I rented a couple of years ago. It was a little small, super slow and unrefined but I somehow started to like it by the end of the week. I always thought it was giving its all.

My mother has had her 2015 Outlander Sport GT 2.4L since new. The power feels perfectly adequate with that bigger 4cyl engine. It's been extremely dependable for her. My dad then bought himself a new 2019 Outlander Sport ES 2.0L. He wishes it had more power, but his has been flawless too. It's an old design, but a very underrated vehicle. I love driving theirs. They take curves really well. I like the 8.5 inches of ground clearance and the higher seating position. It looks and feels more like a proper SUV than a lot of CUVs today, which tend to look low and long, almost like lifted station wagons.

Took delivery of this in November for the wifey. It's a pretty perfect in-town car as she doesn't go on the highway at all. There's a ton of empty space in the engine bay. I wouldn't be surprised if turbos / hybrids are currently in the works for the future. As someone who never had radar cruise control or lane keep assist before the tech honestly blew me away.

I’ve been a long time Honda owner and personally owned a 2020 2L turbo sport model but I have a feeling Hondas really gonna lose sales with this new generation of lineup. I know Honda lovers will say otherwise which boggles my mind, but Kia and Hyundai are bringing way more to the table for the price point. I do like the look overall of the new generation Hondas, that being said, though they lack a lot of features that all the other car manufacturers in this price point are bringing to the table. I was on the team of not being sure if I wanted to go with a Kia or Hyundai because of the ratings they used to get, but they are honestly killing it now in this area of car with the amount of features tech amenities everything. Honda is pushing people to spend five+ thousand dollars more to move to an Acura to get some thing with all of the amenities, tech features, and performance. So for a consumer like myself that wants all the bells and whistles in a well rated car. They’re pushing me to go towards Kia or Hyundai at this point. I’m very disappointed.

I considered getting the HR-V. I like the looks. The exterior looks very upscale. The interior is nice but it's missing a few things, especially rear fan vents for the rear passengers. Some of the competitors offer that. The biggest dealbreaker for me was the acceleration. Man, it’s slow. I know it’s a small CUV but c’mon, the Kona and CX-30 are much quicker than this. Plus, the HR-V is heavier so logically, it’s needs a more powerful engine. This car desperately needs a turbo or a hybrid. I got the Civic Sport Touring Hatchback instead which is just as practical as the HR-V but with lower ground clearance.

A turbocharged engine would make the new Honda HRV unreliable. I haven't considered Honda suv's due to the turbocharged engines. This new updated Honda HRV offered with a non turbo engine and a 2.0 which is better than the 1.8, is probably the best decision Honda made to go back to their reliability fame. Those 1.5 and 2.0 turbo engines in a gasoline engine, would be problematic in years ahead. I am thankful Honda brought back their nonturbo engines in their small crossover SUVs. I am considering buying this new HRV for this same reason. Thank You Honda for this 2.0 engine, for the ones that don't like turbo gasoline engine and that care more about reliability than performance as a daily driver!

Hondas newer cars (11th gen Civic and Accord, 4th gen Pilot, 6th gen CRV,) are pretty interesting to me. They seem understated with the design language and a little plain in some aspects, but I think it’s pretty solid overall (especially with this new HRV). It's good that you got 9 seconds in your 0-60 but the reality is, most HR-V drivers will have passengers, cargo etc. which means 11-13 seconds will be the more realistic 0-60. TheTopher said he got 13 seconds for his 0-60 in the 2023 Honda HR-V. Just unacceptable! Especially since the Corolla Cross has 11 more horsepower, a better CVT with a physical first gear, and better fuel economy.

More than enough power and I am a recovering Lead foot anyways so I don't need/want super powerful and fast. The interior is beautiful, feels like it is made to the usual Honda top tier quality. You know, it's a subcompact SUV, so it won't blow you away, but what Honda has done with the new HR-V that is based on the current Civic is a great improvement. I even like the apperance of this HR-V more than the old one. It would be great to see a little more power from that VTEC 4-cylinder, and I don't know why it sounds like that, considering the other VTEC 4-cylinders from Honda sound really nice and refined. I mean, all cars in this segment are really slow, so it's not surprising why it is pretty underpowered, so you can't really expect much. But overall, Honda has done a pretty nice job of improving the quality of the HR-V, and again, most people will be satisfied with what it offers. I'd still rather get a CR-V over the HR-V, but hey, power to everyone.

This is a pretty lackluster vehicle compared to a good amount of the competition, and an unusual step sideways in alot of areas for Honda in general, but I'd imagine most will still buy this based on brand reputation alone. And there's more than a few vehicles in this segment that are significantly better performers while also getting superior fuel economy. I give credit where it's due, but this car is not an exceptional effort from Honda.

@@Stressless2023 I mean nothing in this segment is outstanding so, not really surprised, but most people will be satisfied. The Mazda CX-3 (now the CX-30) is definitely the best car in this segment, since I've heard it's more fun to drive, it has Mazda's lovely 6-speed automatic, and the turbo 4 in that car produces a lot more power that is definitely needed.

Kind of a fail with the lack of the Magic Seats and no power liftgate. Not sure why Honda would get rid of the Magic Seat, I use it all the time in my Fit and it was a big selling feature to me.
