It hurts me so much to agree with this but here we are...the prices are horrible and yet that is unfortunately part of the reason why they are as successful as they are. Same goes for any other type of luxury item. Same (almost) can be said about Ferrari. Surely there are other examples as well but this is what came into my mind.

  • @k.w5804

Yea and GTS seems to be a good bargain compared to C4S when the usually performance options you want to add anyway. Way too expensive but I think even with that price tag, it would still be kinda hard for Porsche to recoup the R&D costs. Sadly sports cars just don't make money these days.

@@nica711 To be honest: I never drove a US or JP manufactured car and accepted the fact that, over the years, you can't even change a tiny light bulp without removing the whole front lights (except for workvans). This is a problem you get with almost every car model from every european brand. Concerning the brake jobs you mentioned: you are absolutely right. Completely unnecesarry. But overall there's not much left to do on new cars for somebody who learned in the 80s or 90s. At least not in the engine bay. In Germany even the official term "car mechanic" changed to "car mechatronic" in the early 2000s and apprenticeship in that workfield focused more and more on electronics and software based workflow (odb). That's why i drive a 1986 Opel Monza.

Man, just a timeless, beautiful car. Every day I find myself more smitten with the 911- save for a few models. The sheer sleekness shows how Porsche has been able to retain this design. Any car nut has "that one" (or a few) car(s) that are held above all else- our dream car(s). Ever since I was a young man, the C3 Corvette, to me, is the sexiest car to ever exist- And my dream car. That, and a Morgan Aero 8 GT coupe. The 911 has now joined the dream car list. This goes way, way beyond looks, clearly. I finally got a Corvette (sadly, not a C3) for my 40th birthday, and I absolutely love it. By my calculations, I could have the used Porsche that I've considered buying by the time I'm about 130. I've never even driven a 911, but I am now dead set on owning one after reading from hundreds of articles and enthusiast's about how truly great they are. Point being, the Corvette is plenty reliable to last me another 90 years.

Remember when these were obtainable for people, even if they had to save up a little longer than they would for a Vette? Remember when Porsche came out with the Cayman because the 911 got too expensive and wanted to give people a chance to experience Porsche enthusiast driving bliss, and now they got too expensive as well? Shits just too expensive. I'm not a Vette guy, but even I will say it's an incredible performance car, and outside of scumbag stealership mark ups, it's obtainable for people. If not, you have Supra which is very OG Cayman like in experience. And now the Z, which will likely be C7 Vette like experience, just not built like trash and actually has a nicer quality interior.

@2:04 I don’t think older men just buy sports cars to relive their youth. Most older men buy sports cars because by the time they’re financially able to afford one, they’re no longer the young men they used to be. I hate the fact that society tries to demonize men & place men into boxes.... Especially when it comes to men enjoying their lives and buying what they want. According to society, if a man buys a sports car, he’s either “compensating” or “trying to relive his youth”. Fellas, enjoy your life and buy what YOU want.

I’m thinking about buying one. I bought one of the first 997 GT3s and still have it, but haven’t been to the track in probably 7 years. I’m used to it for weekend getaways, but it’s always an adventure going on long road trips - it’s impossible to enjoy while grabbing liquor and groceries in unfamiliar places in unfamiliar towns and it sucks in any kind of wet weather. Scraping the front splitter is inevitable and I’m replacing it yearly. Rear tires are gone or just too diminished after about 5k miles to be safe and keep the performance the car deserves and I usually end up doing the fronts at the same time. This car seems worth a look for a person like me, but I’m so attached to my GT3 even though I’m probably too old for it lol.

Although I like NA engines: Then it will be even slower than a Carrera, which is the base model. The idea of the GTS is: It's a refined, more sporty S with some sport options coming as standard. That was the same with the old Cayman/Boxster GTS, which had the same 2,5L Turbo of the S models with slightly more power. The new 4L NA might be slower in than this Turbo 4cyl Boxer, but you finally get the missed two cylinders. The 911 always had and has 6 cylinders and there is no argument for a slower, but more expensive car. These people were forced to buy the GT3 Touring.

There are a lot of Porsche's that I like, but the 911's have always been some of my favorite Porsche models of all time

Actual owner here: You can spec a Carrera S and a GTS the same. They both are Carrera “S” models and it’s the options that are shared that make the difference like rear wheel steering, lowered suspension, axle lift, chassis,etc.. The option upgrade list is beyond extension for however bespoke you want to go.

The problem with the price is, everything is expensive now. The "starter" homes in my area that were 150k several years ago are now 300k. It's not surprising that car prices have followed suit.
