The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder Gets The Big Upgrade It Needs to Compete
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
It's no secret that 3-row SUVs and crossovers have replaced family vans in driveways throughout America. Nissan finally has a solid competitor with the 5th generation 2022 Pathfinder. Everything has been rethought and improved including the transmission. Yes, the CVT is gone! Mated to the 3.5-liter V6 is a ZF 9-speed gearbox. But the best part for buyers is how Nissan offers up features and tech on affordable models, no need to buy the top trim to get a bird's eye camera view system. Tom Voelk travels to Montana for a deep dive on a machine that should sere families well.

the interior is really cool. but new transmission zf 9 have many problems on other cars like Honda Crysler Jeep. Hope Nissan tested it before for a long time else it will be worse CVT
The previous one was in need of replacing as soon as they unveiled it. This one is lightyears ahead

I never said thank you for the professional well made videos ! Muchas gracias! 🇲🇽
Great review (as usual) Tom, and great comeback for Nissan, I wish them well.
Totally forgot the originals were 2 doors! Same with the 4 Runner.
I love your great short reviews. Keep them coming
The best is that everyone is now trying to compete with the KIAs and Hyundai’s now. Manufacturers laughed at them and ignored them until they slipped by and passed them while they were all complacent. I love underdog victory stories! That being said, I have always been a Nissan fan. 2 Altima’s, 2 pathfinders, 1 Maxima and 3 Titans… glad they are making a comeback!!
Gr8 review Tom I’m loving the new pathfinder
Tom's videos are definitely Top Tier and polished. Bravo 👏🏻 Nissan is heading in the right direction. No more Continuously Annoying Transmission! Nice styling too. Tom, did you leave your pink sippy cup in Montana??

Good review, nice scenery.
Nice to see! It's time for the cvt's to go One of the main reasons I got a cx30 was for the 6 speed transmission I hope Nissan does this for all their vehicles.
Great review, it got me interested.
Great video/audio work yet again! You said a few years ago, while in Japan, that Nissan had a lot of great products on their way. You were so right. Nissan has its mojo back and all their new products show a real change for the better. Their design language is distinct and well executed although I think the Rogue looks better overall. The new EV-SUV should make a splash and sell well too. Good to see them taking all their experience in developing the Leaf into a more universal and appealing platform. However, it's hard to imagine that the nation known for their electronics would struggle with infotainment systems like this one. What went wrong?
Nice looking! Nissan is stepping up their game big time!
Great review, Tom! This looks good - loving the design and practicality. Will it come to the UK? I’ll take it with a plug-in hybrid engine. In black ✊🏽

Tom, love your reviews. One suggestion: please add a segment on the headlights. LEDs are a vast improvement, but there are still differences and good headlights are so important, IMHO. Thanks!
FYI: I test drove a 2022 Pathfinder SL 4WD here in Central Texas where it was 100 degrees today on 7.29.21.. the reason I wanted to test drive one was to see how the AC worked because I saw a few reviews that said the AC didn't get cold enough...and they were RIGHT...The AC did NOT get cold enough IN THE 100 degree weather today.. I had the AC set to recycle the air from the inside air with AC button pressed and had it set to the lowest setting which was 60 degrees and the air did not feel crisp enough and would get warmer when u slowed down ,I also un pressed the AC button and that did not help..I own a 2015 Pathfinder SV and the air gets colder in it when I have it set to 70 degrees with the air being recycle from the inside air and the AC button is not pressed..Needless to say I was disappointed..matter of fact we help my mother in law buy a Nissan 2021 Kick last week and the AC gets colder then the New 2022 Pathfinder..Nissan please fix...Here in Texas if the AC isn't cold enough then nothing else matters with all the other new features...I definitely recommend testing one out on a HOT day before buying one..

I had a 2004 and it was actually made in Japan with the 3.5 VQ and it was awesome. But I will admit, it did not age that well. Started needing repairs on a regular basis at around 125k miles and I performed all the maintenance on schedule. The thing that killed lots of them were rusted strut towers. That’s structural and when it rusts it’s game over. But the design itself has aged well and when I see one these days they don’t look “dated.” Cheers
Stylingwise a substantial improvement!
Nice scenery and great video
The new Nissan Pathfinder has that "comfy station wagon" vibe going. Betcha there's an off-road version already for its mid-cycle intro.

I bought a new 2015 pathfinder back then it was the model s, coming from a 2012 Nissan frontier. Loved the seats in our pathy, and ride was silky smooth. Hated cvt, felt like it hung as I slowed down. Worst thing, rear heat AC. You had to have rear temps lower then the front temps for air to come in 3rd row vents and rear console. Other wise it shoots out of the floor . Absolute an elementary design flaw . Buyer beware if your looking at it, hope it was improved. Btw, I kept it for 3 years and traded it on my 2018 Chevy hd LTZ duramax Silverado. I missed body and frame for off roading
Looks nice, but I hope that ZF 9-speed transmission is reliable and no lunges when shifting.
So glad to see the droning, unreliable JATCO CVT has been ditched. A proper ZF automatic is a humongous improvement. Great review, Tom. Looks like you had some fun in Big Sky territory!
Oh...Tom, looks like you got a red one....Steve H. got a gray one. Did you happen to see any of the green ones while you were there? I hope this can live up the '04 R50 PF standards as the Mrs is (very) interested in another PF. But still looking at the CX-9 GT, Atlas V6 SE, Telluride EX and Grand Cherokee. AWD is a must and it appears that our next vehicle is going to clip $40k (ouch).
very nice reveiw
80.5 ft^3 max cargo sounds pretty stingy, especially when an e.g. Honda CR-V offers 75 or so. Thanks for the great vid!
This is a much much better vehicle! Kudos!!!
Good stuff
yes now the next step is to bring back the Maxima with no cvt as well. I still put on a competition against subies, camero and mustang v6s but just imagine it a 8 or 9 speed trans on the maxima they are already pretty quick with the VQs
I would put money on the ride height being lower than most people want so that when they roll out their Pro4X version, the extra 1.5-2.5” ride height seems like a substantial upgrade
Beautiful...🔥👌
This looks like a winner for Nissan. They are on the comeback trail with their new offerings.
The previous Pathfinder was dead on arrival. This one will definitely sell
In order to update the infotainment, could that be done with this current 2022 model with a software update? Or would that not be possible? Maybe Nissan will hear all the complaints and update it. But would that not be possible until the 2023 comes out? Or if you own a 2022, could that be updated???
Opp's, Love my 2022 Nissan Pathfinder.....right up to Saturdays mail... no less than 6 recalls on my Pathfinder.....ECM needs an update , second roll seats frame welds, third roll headrests, hood latch not holding , back door hinges bad and a voluntary ecm fuel issue causing bad fuel mileage and flunking the California Emissions inspection... Going in Monday, see what we are going to do. sad..
Presently, the Telluride and Palisade are the top rockstars in this segment.

good to see Nissan returning to the root of having "aggressive" design language like the original "Hardbody". after 10+ years of CVT associating problems, can Nissan recover? Pathfinder and Rogue definitely heading back in the right direction.

I'm in the market for a new vehicle in this class and was eagerly waiting the reviews on the new Pathfinder. I have tested the Telly and was impressed. However given its unbelievable popularity, demand and 5-10k mark up in a lot of cases it's a challenge to go down that road at the moment. No question for me though the Kia is still the better package overall. It would be nice to see Kia offer two tone color options and more fully body color options like the Pathfinder, I do think Nissan do a better job there. Visually more appealing colors!
Sounds promising. Is this the same 9 speed that gave Honda grief? Can’t wait for a longer test drive to check the transmission’s behavior
Thank God its becoming a real pathfinder again. please make it a rear wheel drive and 4x4 instead of fwd and awd. Bring back the WD21 body in a newer format.
Good for Nissan, this new model without the CVT will do wonders for their balance sheet. This looks like it will give anyone pause when shopping in this car category and give it a serious consideration.
is it the zf 9 speed or the jatco 9 speed ??? same old engine is a disappointment, even the mazda cx9 has 310 lb-ft of torque.
Looks not bad, a bit like the Land Rover?
A litre is 2.2 pints. Similar to a quart. I'm in the UK and of a generation that goes between metric and imperial.
I am back.... For some reason youtube unsubbed me from your great channel?
Glad to see Nissan has given the Pathfinder the much-needed attention to be competitive again
Nissan CVT is notorious for going out under 100k miles. They also suck to drive. I have a Frontier that I love, now we’ll be checking this bad boy out. I’ve been saying for years if the Pathfinder didn’t have the CVT I’d give it some serious thought. With the upgrade look and engine I just need to sit in it and I’ll probably be sold.
I'm seeing conflicting information on these reviews. Does it have wireless android connectivity or just apple CarPlay?

Sorry, my phrasing was poor on that. I believe Android is not wireless the way the press info is written-"wireless Apple CarPlay® integration, Android Auto™ , and wireless charging".
Sales figures don't lie. The current Pathfinder has outsold all others most years. I'm surprised the ZF is so popular, I don't remember many singing its praises on Jeeps. I like the new Pathy, I may well buy one eventually.

Nissan back to kicking butt now.
“Really Really Really pretty 😍 and we’ll thought of components, transmission, & engine!!”
@7:55, I disagree this could be done with a Honda Accord. Have done it, not this exact trail but something similar. Now if it was in the mud and snow, I would agree.
Waiting for the review of new Bentley continental gt convertible. Last one on same car was best.
I hate when designs avoid all creativity and copy others. I guess go down the path of what works. But that back has Range Rover discovery 3 written all over it. Shame because I still remember the millennium pathfinder. That design was rugged as it was luxurious back in the day. Lol I still see them around and it brings back memories. You always want the best of the worst or the best of the best not the average of the worst or the best. That’s my weird way of going about things lol. Great look I must say though. This is keeping it safe. I was hoping for a Ford bronco, Land rover defender type shift. But this will do.
I’d buy one because the car has a 9spd trany and not a shitty CVT

I had such a bad experience with my cvt transmission and 0 support from Nissan. I doubt they would be able to help with any new issues that come about in this new generation. I suggest purchasing from a manufacturer with a better customer service reputation.
No more CVT? Nissan is back in the game!
those analog gauges triggered tf out of me. toyota has officially passed the torch from their cruise control stalk to nissan's gauges for longest-running switchgear.
I think the best chances this has is, cheaper price and maybe brand loyalty. Otherwise it should of read the room and came with more.
Why does nissan still use the cvt trans in all there rogues i think they want them to fail 😢
What an improvement. The old one was a Nissan NerdFinder. Blah..

I have a 4thG Pathfinder with a CVT which they claimed was the cat's meow when they sold it to me and they are ..it talking. I guess whatever it takes to make a sell. Anyway, I love my 4th Gen, it is a powerful beast and great on fuel economy and yes the reason I bought it was 25K drive out with leather seats brand new. Now, if I have to pay over 35k for the base model, my choice would be a 4Runner so I wouldn't have to apologize for when I want to trade it in. what is it about the CVT people don't like again?? mine is great, it must be the operator.
