The 2021 Honda Civic Type R (FK8) is a Japanese sport compact car manufactured by Honda.
The FK8 model is based on the 10th generation Honda Civic and a concept model was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September 2016. The following year, a production model was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The Civic Type R went on sale in the United States and Canada in June 2017, marking the first time the Civic Type R was officially available to these markets, slotting above the Civic Si sedan/coupe.
Being based upon the FK8 generation of Civics which was designed as a global car, this made it easier to export the Type R to North America since that market already had the standard, UK-built Civic hatchback available for sale. In Canada and the USA, the Civic Type R is only offered with 306 hp turbocharged 2.0 L i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine. Edition Type R.
In 2021, Honda offered a Limited Edition Type R. Only 600 were designated for the US and the car would only be available in Phoenix Yellow pearl paint.
The FK8 Civic Type R has won many accolades and awards. It was crowned Top Gear Magazines Hot Hatch of the Year 2017, it was also voted International Editors' Choice and overall Car of the Year 2017. What Car? also awarded the Type R its Hot Hatch of the Year award. In Australia, the car was awarded Performance Car of the Year 2018. The car was chosen as one of the Top 10 Tech Cars by the IEEE in 2018.
The 2021 Civic Type R's engine remained the same as its predecessor featuring a turbocharged inline-4 with increased power to 316 horses in the European and Japanese version but remains the same 306 hp in other markets. It also features a 6-speed manual transmission.
