Initially I didn't know what it was until I heard about Jordan and had an "Aha" moment. LMAO the butterfly effects for sure!

Here's one: the Washington Capitals selecting Scott Stevens in the 1982 NHL Draft led to the St. Louis Blues' Stanley Cup run in 2018-19. Caps drafted Stevens; Blues later signed him as an RFA; Blues signed Brendan Shanahan as an RFA and lost Stevens as compensation; Shanahan was eventually traded for Chris Pronger; Pronger was eventually traded for Eric Brewer; Brewer was eventually traded to Tampa Bay for a 3rd round pick, which the Blues used to draft Jordan Binnington, a key to the Blues turnaround and Cup run. The Caps also replaced their coach in 1981-82 which may factor into the whole lineage.

we’re now getting close to 4 years…

I have an idea, in 2017, when the Cleveland browns went 0-16 , they were going to make a trade for A.j. McCarron. They were going to make this trade at the deadline but weren't able too complete the trade because they were too late to complete the trade after the time deadline. They were going to trade a second and a third round pick for him. But obviously they couldn't. That second round pick turned into nick chubb and helped turn the browns around

Since there is now a MLB lockout, were gonna have to watch which NBA dynasty will become a thing lol

It could also be said Phil Jackson doesn’t go to the Lakers to implement the Triangle without the second three-peat

Quality content. The podcast “flashback- history’s unintended consequences” actually had an episode on the ramifications of the mlb strike on MJ’s return to basketball in greater detail. This video took it a step further in connecting the dots between those events and Shaq’s groundbreaking free agency. Nice work!

@@nolalife18 The Pistons finished that year with the 10th best record in the NBA, the Magic 11th. The lottery at the time chose the first three picks at random, with 4-11 slotted by record. So if the Pistons dropped to 11, that meant the Magic were one of the top three teams in the lottery.

I would hope this comment is a joke but if not Shaq has played for a lot of teams which included the Orlando Magic, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Miami Heat, the Phoenix Suns, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics in that order but he is most known for his time with the Lakers

Here's some more fun facts: Had the strike never happended (aka: Jordan continued to play baseball), the 95' Bulls would have missed the playoffs or 8th seed at best. Without a doubt, that mediocer record would be a perfect excuse/ reason for Jerry Krause to trade Scottie Pippen, the player who was on the trading block ever since Jordan retired (even after Jordan came back non than less). After that, the Bulls would have tanked or tried to built the team around Toni Kukoc (aka: Jerry Krause wet dream). Either way, If that happend, the 96' Bulls would have finished around 30 wins, good enough for a 10-13 pick, and don't forget about the Pippen trade scenario. It could be say that the Bulls future would have been very bright. And one more thing, the 96 Nuggets (who owned the 10 pick in 96 draft) for some reason didn't interest in drafting anyone and were willing to trade that pick away. If the Bulls had taken that deal, they would have owned two top 15 pick, which they could have ended up with Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash.

The Expos probably would still be a thing, the 1994 season would revive interest in the team as they’d go deep into the postseason, probably allowing for them to get a new stadium with new round support from the fan base.

I was once a 14 year old kid in NJ who was a huge Magic fan, but after Shaq left I was mad and over time I fell out of favor of the NBA

94 is a famous robbed opportunity for the Expos, but the White Sox had similar aspirations snuffed that year. Not knocking you for missing it, just bringing it up.

I don't know how big that opportunity could be. Remember, at the time of the strike, the Braves were leading the wild card (only by 2 games though). Had the standing stood still, the Expos would definitely have faced the Braves in the NLCS (since those two teams were in the same division), which would have been a tough match up for the Expos to get through. But If the Astros have been the wild card instead of the Braves (again, because the Braves were only leading WC by 2 games), then the Expos would have won it all easily.

It wasn't the MLB strike. MJ was told to go away in Oct. 1993 by David Stern (for gambling). By March 1995, MJ came back because of the strike (and the fact that he didn't want to be a replacement player). Also, I have another butterfly effect: A successful telethon in 1977 led to the Colts moving to Indianapolis.

And Kobe wasn’t going to play for no other organization but the Lakers. Everything happened the right way. The MLB strike only hurt The Montreal expos and Seattle Mariners.

The Expos were the best. Period. Saying they had no chance is....yeah...not true. And 94 would have led to stability. The strike killed the Expos. And since we're talking about the Braves...how many did they win?

@@Milk382011 Yes, they won the World Series in 1995. Who's claiming they didn't? And the records of all the teams in all their seasons are there for all to see. Including what they did and didn't win in 1991, 1992 from the West and 1996 and 1999 from the East. You are the one making assertions. Also, 1995 was a direct result of 1994. Would the Expos have won the World Series in 1994? We'll never know, but they were headed to the postseason. Of that I have no doubt.

@@Milk382011 We agree to disagree. And we'll never know what moves they might have made to address any weaknesses. Saying they had no chance is just wrong. And they needed a former Expo, in his prime to win their only(?) World Series in Atlanta. Jeff Reardon was not in his prime when he pitched for the Braves in 1992.
