@UCw-u9b1azJMXDiuMqwhba2w you all i just that in the heat of the moment , obviously there are lots of pop culture moments . I am a big fan of her, I may be biased. I think I meant the statement for the album as a whole. Obviously gangnam style and harlem shake were equaly iconic or rather more, but I think I rather meant how taylor and the album become a global phenomen. I am gonna add TMM LP 2 to my comment quick

1989 is the true definition of a cultural reset. I mean, Taylor was really everywhere with this one. None of the tracks felt like cheap pop, and the MUSIC VIDEOS. Lord, her team said fuck a budget. As for Reputation i still think people took it the wrong way. It was meant to be satirical and show Taylor embracing the medias criticism and what they viewed her as.

I never cared about music until I heard the 1989 singles. When I heard blank space for the first time I was in total shock. I never knew it was possible to make a song that good. I thought she was some genius or something. I thought that was her only good song. I didn't even know she had about 4 albums before that full of great songs. That's just how big she is. Before I would just listen to the music bop to it remember the lyrics etc. but after this album I got more into actually listening to the words, see how the production played out, got more into how the songs were made and all that jazz. So this album holds a very special place in my heart and I’ll forever be thankful to Taylor for making me love music more. Also “I know places”, best track 💋

The problem with Reputation was that it came out after 1989 (the biggest of her career). People were naturally comparing the two to each other. The same way how people hate sequels that would have been good on their own because they liked the first movie more

I also feel like Taylor released this album at the right window. By late 2014 through early 2015 there weren’t many major pop acts releasing music. Katy Perry was wrapping up the prism era, Miley was wrapping up the Bangerz era, Rihanna was on hiatus, 1Direction hype was dying etc. Ariana & Meghan Trainor we’re still fairly new. And then by the end of 2015 was when Adele dropped her 25 album so Taylor definitely filled the mid 2010’s gap in popular music

taylor swift. she never misses. she's a rare one. her discography and career is fascinating. she's so intelligent, genuine and skilled. she deserves her fame and success. her impact can't be denied. she will be celebrated for many years to come. she's done everything right. 1989 may not be her best album. but it is her best era and the most successful of the 2010s. no one, no one could've done what she did. she was everywhere for a reason. and while she'll continue to find new and more success, that era will always stand out. i do believe that she gets better with each release. folklore has to be her best album to date. but all of her albums are so her, they all hold so much meaning and importance. what a woman. she makes me proud.

@mirror ball Taylor has had several peaks. This idea that stars are only allowed to have "a peak" is ridiculous. Taylor peaked with Fearless, had a resurgence with Red, peak with 1989 and started ascending back with reputation and Folklore. Ariana recently started becoming a main popstar so she definitely has a lot of years of success before the GP throws her to the elephant graveyard with other female celebs they grow tired of. It's sad but true

Oh the 1989 era, a once in a lifetime era. The last good AND massive pop era we witnessed. But it was not only successful, but also the album tracks were quality songs and the album was overall acclaimed. I have SO many good memories from the time 1989 was murdering every single chart and radios all around the world were blasting Shake If Off, Blank Space (my fav 1989 single), Style, etc. This era is the definition of a cultural reset (a real one, not those basic pop eras that only make noise in stan twitter) in the modern days along with Lemonade and maybe 25. In fact, it's still charting in the BB 200 with over +300 weeks on the chart. Insane. The hate Taylor got after it was so unnecessary, but I guess people were tired of seeing Taylor constantly winning so they hated her for the dumbest reasons. Btw, Blank Space is one of the BEST and BIGGEST pop classics from the last decade. That song is just flawless.

I feel the exact same way! Except for me, I was a junior in high school and preparing for college. 1989 was the soundtrack to everything new, fun, and exciting. When I listen to that album now, it takes me back to that time in my life, and always makes me smile.

I feel like Ariana Grande's lowercase era (Sweetener/thank u, next) has become the last massive pop era though. Literally, all of her singles were inescapable. No Tears Left To Cry, God Is A Woman, Breathin, TUN, 7 rings, and Break Up With Your Girlfriend I'm Bored. You couldn't go a day without hearing one of them in public. She also has a massive fanbase.

This was the album that made me a Taylor Swift fan. I didnt really know her music before this album as a foreigner who doesn't live in the States , I just knew one or two hits. Then 1989 blew up and it was the first Taylor Swift album I listened to in its entirety and the 1st one I ever bought. This album made me go back into the Taylor Swift archives and listen to all her old country albums and though I'm not a country music type , I loved most them ;especially Red , Speak Now and Fearless. I discovered "All too well" years after it came out and I still blast it out of my speakers to this day. I find it hard to follow American entertainment news but I'm always surprised by how many people have something nasty to say about Taylor Swift; she doesn't do drugs ,she seems very polite and courteous in interviews and isn't too sexualized . Her lyrics are also very well put together most of the time and her use of imagery is very skillful without being disturbing or crass.

I‘m not a Taylor Swift fan, but what bothers me is that some people (like taylor, or nicki) get hated for every little thing until it becomes ,,cool“ to hate them, while others, like Chris Brown for examble who have done horrible things in the past don‘t really get hated much at all
