@@calebsmith322 It's nothing like that mate, the lyrics are "you do make me hard, but she makes me weak" meaning she made him feel complete, happy. Whilst the girl in the song that he refers to as "his mistake" makes him feel the opposite. She makes him feel isolated, alone and not like himself.

My husband left me for a younger woman and I always felt like he ran to her as a way of holding onto the younger version of me. He immediately regretted it after we divorced and sent me long messages about how she would wear perfume and it reminded him of me. How she would rub his earlobes and he hated it because it was something "We" did together. It's been years and he still sends me letters telling me about how he misses things about me. I feel so bad for the people who are "mistakes". But I also feel sad for the person that was left behind. So many hearts are ripped apart. 😫

Had a good wife, beautiful kids, and a good job. As soon as he lost all that she dropped him just like that. That's the way it goes.

i was the mistake. he was the first guy i truly had fall in love with. he had just broken up with his gf. which now i realize i was the rebound. sometimes i smell his cologne out of nowhere. i miss the feeling of butterflies in my stomach. the one motivation i had for waking up. he helped me through so much and he’s gone. the one thing that made me happy disappeared one day. i was in love with him and life. i slowly watched him fall in love with another girl. i get that she’s pretty and not boring. just watching him create amazing memories with her hurts so bad. i wish he would’ve gave me closure or something. im still friends with him but it’s not the same. it’s been a year now and im still in love with him. im still stuck on the idea of what we could’ve been. i pray and hope he’s happy. i miss him Edit: it’s been 5 months since I posted the original comment. i rarely talk to him. i am in peace with myself. things get better Edit: it’s been about 2-3 years. Still see him around school and is dating one of my friends. I manage to make small talk to him but it’s crazy how we both voluntarily forget those things. Glad that I’m not blind to see the immatureness, selfishness, and manipulativeness he is now

One thing that I really appreciate about this song is the pure transparency of it. He doesn’t try to defend his mistakes; he sings very honestly about them. The sense of regret is palpable in his voice, as he sounds like he’s on the verge of tears the whole time he sings. It’s just very vulnerable and I respect the honesty of it. It shows that we as humans do have flaws and do make mistakes and he turned something unfortunate into something beautiful. Respect, Matty 👍🏼

You deserve to be someones first choice and not just a back up plan. 💕

I let go of the love of my life, together over 5 years 4 months ago. Went from teenagers to adults together. She was an absolute diamond in the rough and always believed in me. She held me through depression despite it being so difficult for her. She gave me some of the happiest memories and experiences that I'll forever cherish until the day I die. We both loved this band and saw them multiple times together, robbers was our love song. This song is proof that you can use the same chord progressions over and over and still make incredibly beautiful and unique masterpieces.

He introduced me to this song and to this band. I remember I cried the moment I heard those lyrics, needless to say I was the mistake. He isn't in my life anymore but every once in a while I come back to this video because it feels weirdly nice to reminisce those days that are too far gone now.

This is the most vulnerable and important song on the album in my opinion. Also it is a huge turning point for the whole record. I feel like without the pain from "be my mistake" there wouldn't be the lesson from "sincerity is scary" to just be honest and have the bravery to be "human" in this life. And without the lesson from "sincerity is scary" there wouldn't be the insight from "I couldn't be more in love" and most of all the bravery to actually admit that insight. And without that, there wouldn't be the hopeful approach about the topic in "I always wanna die (sometimes)", because love is the only thing that makes "the human experience" woth it. Basically: This whole album needed "be my mistake" to evolve the way it did.

I was the mistake. But I didn't know until it was over, he broke it off because she wanted to get back together with him. Before he left he explained everything about how she loves this girl and that he would dropped everything for her even after she had broken his heart a million times. The worst thing about this is that since we worked really well together I genuinely thought that we were soulmates (I still do) the only problem is that.. I wasn't her. "You're just like her but you're not her" is a sentence I will never forget.

Damn, The " I just wanna sleep" line hits hard when you're tired and lonesome but still can't sleep because of self restlessness

"the smell of your hair reminds me of her feet"..."you do make me hard but she makes me weak" are my absolute favorite lines ever. i feel like without the context of the song youd find them funny but they just juxtapose the two people so greatly and somehow come across as beautiful. i adore this song. so much.

this album is the only thing that matters and is literally the only thing getting me through this week

imagine a childhood friend play guitar and sing this song at the campfire where you and other friends sat circling the campfire. both of you trapped into friendzone since long ago but you can't really tell yourself whether its love or not. you and your friend sat across. he sometimes stole glance with you and smile when you both make an eye contact while the part he sang is 'then be my mistake'

The 1975's 'Be my mistake' is just the scenario if Joji's 'glimpse in us' was made for the current lover, who's being used by him to get over instead of for the past lover he's holding on to. And nobody can convince me otherwise.

the vocals are so raw and real and so full of emotion and that's what makes it so much more beautiful

This perspective is really interesting. It's complex and sorrowful. I love when I don't need to root for anyone and the art just lets me experience emotions and feelings.

When you did everything to make him feel all the love in the world, but at the end of the day all those efforts go to waste just because you're the mistake.

To be sincerely honest, I am loving it !! Aaaah

This is the most special and personal song on ABIIOR in my opinion and a huge turning point for the whole album.The feat Matty pulled off in this song is that you empathize with all 3 parties involved. You feel for "the girlfriend" because she gets cheated on despite truly loving the man (Matty). But you also do feel bad for the other woman (or maybe women) he uses just to ease his pain from time to time. He doesn't really treat her (or any of them) as a self-contained, living human with her (or their) own feelings, needs and wants and that never feels good to anyone. And you can feel that deep down the man himself feels like that it's not fair to use someone solely for your own pleasure or conveniences without being able to give something back emotionally to that person. And in the end you also do feel empathy for "the cheater" because most of us know the feeling of hurting so much inside, you do things against your own morals to ease the pain inside you, cause you find some relieve from that pain in these short-lived moments of satisfaction.. No one likes to suffer, that's pretty human I think. But you do understand that he truly loves "the girlfriend" he just isn't strong enough sometimes to not give into his own demons. I think we all can relate to that to a certain extent, because we all fuck up sometimes and have hurt somebody without wanting to. The song shows you all "3 angles" of the topic of "cheating": the cheater, the cheated on, and the cheated with. In the end you just understand and feel the pain from all of them and that's something really special in my opinion. But without the pain in "be my mistake" there would have never been the lesson from "sincerity is scary" to just be honest and have the bravery to be "human" in this life. Without that lesson from "sincerity is scary" there wouldn't be the insight from "I couldn't be more in love" and most of all the bravery to actually admit that insight and without that, there wouldn't be the hopeful approach about the topic in "I always wanna die (sometimes)", because love is the only thing that makes "the human experience" woth it! Basically: This whole album needed "be my mistake" to evolve the way it did.

to this day this is still the cruelest song I've ever listened to.

He puts a lot of emotion in this song.

this song always messes me up, it reminds me of all the good times. i listened to it whenever he’d upset me or when he’d break my heart over and over again, and now i listen to it with a final broken heart. i miss him, but now i don’t want him back. it’s a toxic kind of missing someone like sometimes late at night my body screams for him to be near but most of the time it is praising me for not being with him anymore

I let go of this wonderful woman who loved me more than anything in this world. I'm dumb, I got too cocky and been too much of someone who I never thought I'd be. I loved her, more than I thought I would. When I realized how much she meant to me it's too late. Someone already took my place. It's sad and happy at the same time, because I can see the sweetness in her smiles, but it's sad because those smiles aren't because of me anymore.
