Lyrics
I get out my records when you go away
When people are talking, I miss what they say
Because it all means nothing my dear
If I can't be holding you near
So tell me you love me, that’s all that I need to hear
I sit in my kitchen
with nothing to eat
With so many friends I don’t want to meet
I don’t need music in my ears
I don’t need the crowds and the cheers
Just tell me you love me, that's all that I need to hear
I’ve been told so many times before
But hearing it from you m
eans much more
So much more
Reply to my message
Pick up my calls
You see, I wrote you a letter
It was no use at all
Oh, I don’t care if you’re insincere
Just tell me what I want to hear
You know where to find me
The places where we’ve lived all t
hese years
Tell me you love me, that’s all I need to hear

I‘m so in love with this era it feels like this is the most honest and happy they’ve ever been. Such a beautiful group of guys..eternally thankful they’ve found their chosen family in each other and I can’t wait for this album I think it’s going to be the most wholesome one yet.

Sophisticated . I seen them live thanks to my previous partner (ex), Oakland fox theater December 17 2015 feels like forever now. I was 16 soon to be 17 and my gf at the time just turned 19. Frick do I miss those days. The days felt like seasons. People were nicer everything was bliss. Enjoy you’re youth people enjoy what you can never get back. Time and time again we’ll all feel the same. Old. This band is dear too me kinda like sharing and not caring. It’s special because it was real until it wasn’t. Memories are like that. Don’t forget what’s dear to you. Make them feel important. Be patient kind and loving. Forgive don’t forget.

We got married on 10/14/22 the day this record was released and we changed our first dance song to this on the day.
Let's be honest, after all the singles we heard, we can surely say that "Being Funny In A Foreign Language" is probably their best work.

It’s going to be all killer no filler for sure. I think the only complaint is that some songs are very reminiscent of past work which is okay for me, but it’s not exciting in the sense of getting something that sounds creatively new, you know, kind of like…Huey Lewis & The News.

i don't know, because their past work is rather great. from what i've been hearing i feel this is going to resonate a lot more with classic rock/folk fans rather than mainstream pop. i think they're absolutely killing it. (yes i'm a classic rock fan and i pretty much loathe mainstream pop)

@@akahige8967 I hear little folk and more jazz… also the lack of pop doesn’t remind me of their older music like others have said. I think this is a 1975 I never knew I needed to hear. Elegant and groovy tracks but also happy sad ballads like this one. I will say I really miss the darker pop synth 1975 from their first album.
I love how this song is so raw and real, no flashy effects, no big performance, it hits just right, the intro was perfect I loved how authentic it was... no smoke and mirrors, just honesty! Even more excited for the album 🤩

I've been through tough times internally, and after a period of "numbness" of my own self I came to a realisation of who I really was, and this upcoming album seems like the perfect catalyst to that process of inner rediscovery of my own essence. That's how special these songs have been to me.

Yep. When I first saw them in 2009 and 10 (when the band was called the Big Sleep and Drive Like I do, and they were babies). They were the support act for another band. They looked so pissed off and beat down that no one was listening to them and talking through their whole act. I spoke to Matty afterwards and we chatted for ages - such a nice dude. Since then they’ve rocketed as The 1975 and they reached, and passed through, their rockstar phase. I’m loving this phase. They’ve literally been the soundtrack of my life for the past 13 years and I love how their sound has changed.

the statement "we've been a band longer than we've been humans" hit hard because they've been around long enough for people like me and i'm sure so many others, where we know them as a consistent part our life. there is a mutual understanding and you don't always find that in art a lot of the time. they are so special.

the 1975 has been apart of my entire adulthood. i’m 27 now, and the first time i heard them was my senior year in high school when i was 17 on tumblr lololol. but i’m coming up on my 10 year reunion from high school and it’s all so bittersweet bc it’s also my 10 year with this band... they have been there for me growing into an adult. they got me through most of my twenties hahaha which was a mess. i try to imagine my adulthood without them and i can’t. i cant even imagine it. they are the soundtrack to my coming of age story. and that’s why i love them. i love them because we grew up together.

At first, having heard the acoustic version Matty did, I was disappointed by this live version. Then I loved the record version. Coming back a couple months later, this is so good as well!

The perfect song to relax all the senses after a hectic day at work 🍷
It's so great to have this vibe back in their music. The songs they've released for the album so far have been amazing, can't wait to hear the rest of it 🖤
Been a fan of these guys since Chocolate hit the radio in like 2014. Still remember first hearing the song: driving back from the beach in SoCal and couldn't believe the sounds they were making. I've been in some bands and have drummed for most of my life, but I had never heard anything like the 1975 before that day... I was hooked. Listed to their self titled deluxe about 1000 times and my favorite song is still Milk.. remember letting You play out and finding the little hidden gem at like minute 7.30 or something... man, the band, everything they were doing, completely broke my brain. It was the music I would play if I was as talented as them. Then they dropped a few more albums, and I'll be honest, I felt a little disappointed at times. I realized that they had played (and honed) their self titled songs for like 10 y before it actually released in an album, so my expectations definitely needed to be adjusted. If you play songs for a decade, working them out of stage, and then record the album.. the polish and cohesion they will have... well, for me it really shone through. With their other albums, I just felt like that polish was missing. Still a huge fan through it all.. I don't know how to explain it.. I still liked what they were doing, but maybe I just wasn't loving it. Then they drop these singles... and I'm head over heels again. Well done lads.
Masterpiece guys 🖤 What an amazing song, beautiful lyrics and melody. The 1975 always knows how to get to the bottom of the heartstrings
Out of the 4 singles released for the upcoming album I think this might be my favourite so far it’s a beautiful song, can’t wait for the new album 😃
Matt Healy is such a motor mouth, always thinking out loud, endearing and very revealing. Unfiltered.
I love the 1975 so much, I remember playing fifa 14 and the city was playing and I loved it instantly! Ever since I've loved every song and record they released. They are a consistent band that never disappoints. This album will be so good!!
These guys are the definition of “gets better with age” 🥺
I highly recommend the album “Absolutely” by Dijon if you dig this sound. The vibes are almost exact, clipping sounds, pedal steel, etc.
Two days before my birthday this is my best gift in years and those lyrics are just the things I have wanted to hear for a long time
love every song off the upcoming album that has been released so far 🥺💗 please please come back to manila 🇵🇭
The versatility of this band is incredible 🤯
this song is criminally underrated on the album
So glad matty humbled himself and got cleaned and shit. Dude is growing and I’m always here for it
This is why when I heard 1975 is touring to Australia I already bought tickets can’t wait to hear this live😭❤️
They just get better and better. What an album this promises to be.
What an incredible master piece, this is pure art reflected into a song.
Pretty stoked for this album! Seeing them live for the first time in November and I can’t wait. It’s so strange because the 1975 is not my normal genre of music, but I first heard them on SNL preform “Girls” and “the Sound” and it was just such an interesting vibe. Poppy but with some deep almost dark lyrics, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
loving you too deeply makes me sick, and when I'm sick I found this song.
