The 11-Game Run That Immortalized Kemba Walker and the 2011 UConn Huskies

Спорт

Kemba Walker and the 2010-11 UConn national championship team will go down as having one of the most improbable title runs in NCAA history. After finishing ninth in the Big East conference, the Huskies went on to win 11 straight postseason games and claim the title.
Walker was the heart and soul of that team, leading them both on and off the court.
Relive one the most exhilarating runs in tournament history.

It should be the fact that Butler being a national runner-up in consecutive years is one of the most underrated and competitive sport accomplishments of the last fifty years or at least during my 48 close to 49 years on this planet! As dominant as Houston was leading up to, the loss to the Wolfpack was their defining college moment! It's unfortunate in their regard! I'm old enough to vividly remember Phi Slama Jama and they, when on their game, we're a sight to behold! As an 11-yr old, I can still picture Lorenzo Charles' dunk off Whittenberg's air ball and Jimmy V running around like a nut! Watched every second of that game! All those others u mentioned we're superb at tourney time, but it gets rendered to the back burner if u don't finish the job! Melo, AD and Kemba all finished their jobs! Lamb taking his game to another level during the NCAA tournament was the most significant contribution to UConn's national championship! Kemba was superb, but Lamb became the difference, especially against San Diego St and Arizona! He'd make big play after big play right at all the precise moments and it was his defensive effort early stages of the second half against Butler that completely switched the momentum! Lamb gets lost because of Kemba, but I think even Kemba would tell you the Huskies don't win in 2011 without Jeremy Lamb

Just a reminder, UConn is the most successful basketball program in college the last 25 years. Hurley is cut from the same cloth as Coach Cal and has a legit 4 NBA prospects on the roster in Hawkins, Clingan, Jackson & Sanogo, to go along with really solid role players. Jackson and Sanogo are amazing leaders and super mature. This year, we get one for the thumb!

When the bracket came out, UConn was my Championship team, and the fact that they won it all, made me feel really good about everything that I believed in this team from game 1 of the regular season.

It seems like everybody is oblivious to the one main fact being overlooked here! This is Butler being discussed! BUTLER! A school which had only ever been to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament twice in their history before Brad Stevens! Granted, to lose consecutive championship games is gut-wrenching, but at the same time we also in hindsight need to remember Butler making it to the national final twice in a row was an extraordinary accomplishment! They were the standard setter for the mid majors and the Horizon League had never even had a school make the league relevant on the D-I as a whole landscape! More credit should be given to Butler's amazing success than any what-if's!

In the title game! The final was 53-41 and had Butler been able to hit the barn broadside, it would have been either teams' game to win! Most sloppy NCAA final of all-time! Connecticut wasn't that superb and their defense did force some of the issue, but it was mostly a case of Butler uncharacteristically missing shots they normally made

I'm a near-lifelong ACC fan sans the Tar Holes and besides stating the obvious, the '80s Big East was close behind throughout that entire era! UConn was the bottom feeder in those days until Jim Calhoun's arrival in the spring of 1987 (greatest rebuild in D-I history in my opinion, Scott Drew with Baylor #2)! I vividly remember games on the old Big East Network (Bill Raftery and Mike Gorman) from grade school into junior high! When the heated Syracuse-Georgetown rivalry began it's ascent! Great time period! I'm 49 now and the memories never fade

Taylor Trantham you can only hope, but with the Celtics? That’s a big ask. Then again he prove the haters in college, so can only hope he proves everyone wrong in the nba. Definitely someone who has always been a favourite player of mines.

Visiting this again 6 years later, two coaches after and we're back in the Big East. Hoping for a great outcome this year with both the men and women's basketball teams.
