As a child I saw the red mist Squidward in the episode. It scared me so bad that I avoided SpongeBob like the plague when I watched the episode again though it was the altered version so I was convinced that it was a nightmare. But now watching this video and knowing it’s actually real. I find it a lot cooler than scary but seriously watching that scene dug up some repressed memories

However, they thought it was annoying, so they all decided to just use *actual* swear words. What I wonder is, when the SpongeBob voice actors were swearing, were they cussing with their normal voices or did they actually cuss with their cartoon voices cuz if that's what they did then I find that really funny.

17:20 I ACTUALLY HAD THIS EPISODE ON DVD DISC AND I REMEMBER THIS SCENE VIVIDLY! I was really young at the time, so I don't have it anymore, but I do distinctly remember the poking and the spewing and everything

I remember when this episode first aired. And once i saw the red mist reference, i immediately recorded it. It is saved on my dvr and i occasionally watch it just for that reference. It's truly amazing of the writers giving that nod of acknowledgement that they seen how popular red mist was.

I remember 1 or 2 years ago when the random town episode first aired, I saw the Squidward suicide in one of the weird doors that led to nowhere in the episode. Being interested in lost episodes and creepy pastas and all of that paranormal stuff, I knew it when I saw it and I thought to myself, holy shirt is that suicide squid!? I remember the gas and match gag, but weirdly it was YEARS after it aired (I wasn't even born until almost 3 years after it aired). Also Sandy was originally meant to be a love interest for Spongebob, but the writers decided to just keep them as great friends Also the Red Mist reference is legendary

I feel like removing the red mist reference is probably gonna terrify kids even more Now when they go back to the episode, the scary part is gone Imagine seeing a horrifying image as a little kid on your favorite show. The second time the episode airs you quickly bring your parent over so they can see the scary scene and comfort you, but the scene is completely changed. XD

fun fact about Sailor Mouth, it was revealed by Tom Kenny that they were actually all swearing their heads off behind the scenes and the uncensored footage is somewhere in the archives of Nickelodeon, but many of the voice actors from SpongeBob have been heard in other works swearing and even outside of works in general interviews, and it's hilarious hearing them swear, especially Mermaid Man's voice actor XD never thought I'd hear an elderly man besides the movie Bad Grandpa say inappropriate stuff XD

I remember seeing the Red Mist Squadward and was super happy since I thought it was nice the creators of the episode acknowledged the fans of SpongeBob. Sad that the scene isn’t aired anymore though.

I remember watching SpongeBob in randomland for the first time being completely confused and sort of scared for the remainder of the episode after the red mist jump scare. It was an amazing addition and thankfully it’s removed because that one scene changed the entire feel of the episode.

@@Warzulu77 actually people put themselves to sleep from the coal smoke in ovens. It used to be commonly done on just the old fashioned ovens, but nowadays it’s harder to do so due to them using natural gas instead.

The Red Mist scene was pretty clever cuz veteran SpongeBob fans would understand that reference despite being scary for kids. Dear lord the replacement scene is stupid and it almost seems like Nickelodeon and Viacom still except the season 5-9a writers’ twisted fetishes. 😓

I mean it makes sense why it was removed though. If someone does not know what it means, they might try to look it up and come across it. The creepypasta, although being fictional, can be very disturbing to some people, especially to kids. As a largely watched show, producers don't want viewers to end up watching disturbing content because of a scene in they placed in their show, especially if kids are seeing it. It makes sense why it was removed.

Man, I never will forget my first deleted scene. Just One Bite was brutal.

I'm pretty sure spongebob actually did say "who's the doctor here?" in dying for pie, the only deleted part is him plugging up the blood spirt.

@@Jamgessy Yeah, maybe Nickelodeon thought it was too scary for kids that are not familiar with "Red Mist", which makes sense because most kids wouldn't react well to the 2006 written 2010 creepypasta about Squidward shooting himself dead in his room. Hell, the episode had that part cut due to its frightening nature.

I found it funny how they put Red Mist in the episode because it was popular in 2015 and they brung it back.

When the 'RED MIST' thing in September two years back happened, I was terrified. Not to mention that someone I knew actually tried to SUE the spongebob crew for that.

I remember there being a deleted scene from some episode in season 1, it involved squidward dying after choking on a fork, then patrick giving him cpr and inflating his corpse… I think the scene is available to watch on youtube but it’s in polish. Glad they removed that scene

I remember the Red Mist SpongeBob scene, I think I still have it saved on my tv, but I do think it is reasonable they got rid of it because when I first watched it it did genuinely freak me out.

As SOON as I saw the Hyper-realistic eye'd Squidward in Spongebob in Randomland, I literally screamed out loud, and also typed on discord, and I quote: "YES! THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE CREEPYPASTAS!!!"

I remember when the red mist scene from "Spongebob in Randomland" aired only within the first day(s) of the episode's release before it was replaced with infant squidward for good. When I first watched the episode, I thought "oh cool, a creepypasta reference". But when I watched the same episode a few days later, I didn't see the red mist scene anywhere within the episode. Because the episode always shown the second version always aired instead of the first, I thought that all the creepypastas I was reading was getting to my head. The dozens of youtube videos though that talk about the reference in the episode, just now confirmed that, what I saw was real.

Red Mist reference is the kind of thing you'd never expect. That's why it'd work perfectly. Although it'd probably be nightmare fuel for kids so I understand why it got cut

A lot of episodes that aired after 9/11 was either post poned or cancelled. It's understandable. Like the episode of Pokemon with giant Tentacruel destroying towers. That was kinda dark

I think it's because in some countries some "deleted" scenes from cartoons aren't deleted or they just decide to show it because they don't really care.

I remember the red mist reference when it originally aired, and I was so surprised at seeing it as the original image made it hard for me to sleep for weeks after I originally saw it, quite a few years ago. Then at a later time when I rewatched it, and it was the infant squidward, I realized that "yeah, they weren't going to keep it around for long".

i remember seeing the randomland on release and being so happy and surprised seeing the Red Mist easter egg! 😄

I remember the Explosive gas burglar alarm scenes. As I got older I always felt like there was a scene missing from this episode and I was right, I just never could put my finger on what it was.

There is actually a version of Randomland Red Mist Squidward that didn’t make it to airing. Originally there were storyboards showing the Red Mist Squidward head coming closer and closer to the screen. Unsurprisingly, it was unaired due to the creepiness about something coming closer and closer to you, and just like you said, Strider, the creators backpedaled on the reference to the creepypasta as well! I kinda love these storyboards, and I’m sad these were cut! The creepiness factor of these storyboards were very interesting and I would love to see these actually made. I am also sad that it got cut in favor of a poop joke! Who likes poop jokes!?
