Maybe when Edea killed Squall, the timelines split into two: one where he died, and Rinoa became Ultimecia out of her grief, and one where he lived on and became Rinoa's guardian. The two timelines eventually converged and Rinoa died by the blade of her beloved. It's kinda poetic, in a way. I'm just gonna go with "he got lucky and lived" and "Ultimecia is just a random witch who's PO'd at everyone and wants to destroy the world". Makes things way simpler.

Nice theory except that at this point of the game, Rinoa doesn't know Squall that well, and even though there was attraction between the two, it was not at all love at first sight. Without the events of disks 2 and 3, no way Rinoa would be in that stage of grief

Wait if Squall dies, then it makes sense that the Rinoa theory makes kinda more sense, like Rinoa somehow ends up as Ultimecia, and doing the same thing, creating an infinite time loop everytime Rinoa witnesses Squall getting killed by Ultimecia, and becoming her in the future or not? 🧐🤔 EDIT: Damn im now confused by my own words and of what I was trying to say lol

Ultimecia first tried to kill Rinoa before she became a sorceress. Square has also dismissed this theory. So, I’ve never really understood its traction among fans.

I saw a video a few days ago, that one of the writers/developers originally denied that rinoa is ultimecia theory but now he retracts that statements. So, who knows..

One thing I don't see a lot of discussion of is how easily Sephiroth became the main antagonist of FF7 when all the evidence throughout the games and outside media point to the fact that Jenova is just wearing Sephiroth's image like a skin suit.

FF: VIII was my introduction to the franchise. Loved playing it despite some of it's more unusual aspects. I would listen to the game's music again. If I can.

For all wondering, squall didn’t die. It’s been debunked for some time

Ok, so the Aerith dialogues post-death is a thing but it stops a bit after icicle-inn. My theory is that Aerith's death was originally meant to happen after Cloud gives Sephiroth the Black Materia at the Northern Crater. Because you return to the Forgotten City after Cloud regains his memories just for Bugenhagen to tell you that Aerith meant to be sacrificed (something that could've been done in Cosmo Canyon). The devs moved it to the end of disc 1 for whatever reason. But realized that Aerith sacrificing herself then didn't make sense since you hadn't given Sephiroth the black materia yet. So, they have Cloud give it to Sephiroth right after the Temple of the Ancients. Then give it back to the party in the Northern Crater just so things can make sense with Cloud originally giving Sephiroth the materia there as originally intended for the story.

I think the faces of eve is more like writing technique to diversify the personalities of the characters. Its also very prominent in most animes.

I think Ultimecia is Julia, Rinoa's mother. I always think about that scene where she's playing piano and Laguna comes in and they talk for the first time, and I always wonder: Why would Square go out of their way to make such a detailed, drawn-out scene for a character that is never mentioned, shown, or brought up again, unless she has something to do with the grand scheme of things? Plus they both wear a red dress, and it would explain why Ultemica looks something like Rinoa but not EXACTLY like Rinoa (Ultimecia is taller, has a larger chest, etc).

The major plot point of FF8 is fate. Squall tries to deny it for most of the first discs before following it. Laguna loved Julia, but it was never meant to be. Hence showing their love for each other. But his son loves her daughter instead. Continues on to Laguna acting as a sorceress knight in a film - also mirroring squall and his fate. Laguna is one big ol’ symbol of fate.

Gilgamesh isn’t a theory; it’s outright confirmed in multiple games. Every iteration of Gilgamesh outside of FF15 is the same character

The FFVIII theory was debunked by the creators. They literally laughed and said that he did not perish. “They have healing magic” was their response.

The XII/Tactics/Vagrant Story theory isn't, they are a confirned shared world which is part of something called "The Ivalice Alliance". And there are more than those 3 games within that. Tactics Advance as well. Also, who are Bahaemut and Edie?

1) SEPHIROTH IS JESUS! - That segment legit made me lol. Well done sir! 2) Loved the Wedge and Biggs shout out. To this day I still stick to the Narshe Esper as it's OG North American given name of Tritoch. Also, I will always prefer Aeris to Aerith. 3) Iv-Ah-Leece!!! not Eye-Val-eece Aaargh! though I could never stand Tactics (I sucked at it full disclosure) and I had a hard time sticking to the FF XII story, this is a window I will jump out of. 4) 3 Faces of Eve - Don't go on! OMG Staaaahp! I'm 42 and have been through so much Final Fantasy and this is THE FIRST TIME I've heard this theory and holy effing hell its hitting me in the FACE right now!! 5) I always was like WTF - re: Squall being ok after Disc 1 ending. My roommate in college forever ago had a pretty convincing theory, possibly a combination of R=U and Squall is Dead, that Rinoa actually died during the sequence with Adel or Squall actually failed to save her during the Ragnarok retrieval. His case was built on Rinoa's LB change in Disc 4, which gives her more of an angelic posture (probably justified because Angelo couldn't follow through time compression) and a very quick flashback in the end credits of Rinoa being dead in her space suit, the visor glass shattered. Almost certainly not true and has a lot of holes but it's fun to think about.

Rikku has got to be one of my favourite characters. Kinda reminds me of Yuffie in Rebirth.

Yeah the Squall dies theory never made sense to me. This is a world where magic exists. It stands to reason that Squalls captors would want to keep Squall alive for questioning, so they used magic to heal him.

Well, yeah, art is subjective except where the creator tells you you're wrong 😂😂 some cool theories in there though. Surprised the "Aerith can be revived" plethora didn't get a shout-out though

Rinoa = Ultimecia is one of the more interesting ideas put forth by fans in the series. Back in the day, Game story writers weren't essentially professional screen writers like they are today, but I still feel like they knew what they were doing with the whole Griever and Ultimecia thing. The Tutorial (where you have to draw lots of your FF8 info from) mentions that all sorceresses need knights, and without them they go insane. So it makes sense that if Sorceresses are prosecuted for being sorceresses, and that somewhere down the line that Squall dies defending Rinoa, that Rinoa loses her shit and becomes Ultimecia with a hatred for SEEDs. The people most likely responsible for being hired to come after her, and why she even has Griever in the first place. Even time compression could be motivated by eternal loss. If the game is remade, and it should be since it is like the four or fifth highest selling title in the series of all time, then I think they should actually pursue this angle. Because it is the best way to get an actual sequel, to stop the time loop this series of events caused. While I'm aware that square has denied the R=U theory, they've also very much kept the rumor alive by doing things like Ultimecia vs Squall in dissidia, with Ultimecia asking squall "Shall we dance?" Before their fights. A clear reference to the Rinoa/Squall ballroom scene that Ultimecia should know nothing about.

Can't understand how people after 25 years still don't get that Squall was healed by a Moomba of the prison. Moombas can heal injurues licking the blood like they did with Laguna in the Shumi Village. That's also the reason Moombas found a link between Laguna's blood and Squall's blood...

I used to think Aerith (Aeris to some people) would come back because she had a full limit break! I guess I figured they wouldn't have given her one just for us to painstaking level her up just for her to die, lol!!! I hope that made sense...

@@BearWith_YouI played OG 7 for the first time 2 months ago. Nah, no new weapons. You can go to old shops and buy her old weapons, as ammo for the Throw materia, and that's about it. Also, a kind-of-a-bug where you can get multiple copies of her L4 Limit's manual.

Why does Final Fantasy have a habit of having couples never have a happy ending... Cloud/Aerith, Tidus/Yuna, Noctis/Lunafreya(?), Squall/Rinoa, etc... 💀😭💔

here my theory on FF16 ENDING : now i'm very confident to say after seeing the DLC trailer : Joshua who wrote the book "final fantasy" in the post credit cut scene is Clive and JIll son, and the two kids are Clive and Jill grandchildren, and the mother is Joshua's Wife, i asume that Jill lift the house to her son Joshua. *the house in the post credit is in Mysidia in the north, Shiva/Jill orgin so i think that Clive and Joshua both are dead so Jill lift the hideway and went back to the north were she gave birth to her son and named him Joshua and he who wrote the book about his father Clive.

so they hangout in the interdimensional rift, the same rift gilgamesh uses to cross between different final fantasies

I want to believe in my own theory that FF Mystic Quest, FF4, and FF6 are all same world also. We know irl that Earth used to have all continents called Pangea. Mystic Quest is set in this FF connected world. Then as continents separate, cultures are formed but some things remain the same. Fireburg(MQ) tech inspires what eventually becomes Baron(FF4). It's very possible due to events post FF4 and pre FF6 that castle Baron is buried and later becomes accessible again in FF6 world of ruin. In FF4 it's found in events leading up to endgame that protagonist Cecil's OWN KING is revealed to be summon Odin. Who do we find in buried castle thanks to the burrowing castle Figaro? Odin. King Baron didn't appear to have a queen which a queen is found in FF6 buried castle, but who's to say like the Dread Pirate Roberts that being Odin isn't a title and powers that can be passed? Cecil had a love interest Rosa that looks very similar to FF6's queen in the buried castle. And in both FF4 and FF4 After Yrs it's shown that Cecil becomes new King Baron. Imma gonna crawl back in my corner with my tinfoil hat😅

In the case artwork for ff7, there's a pic of aerith looking up at the highwind... she dies before she ever sees the highwind.

I have a theory with FFXV. Bahamut is actually the true villain in the plot and not the hero he claimed to be. There was planned DLC that would change the ending of FFXV with Noct fighting along side Lunafreya, Aranea, and Ardyn.

I still enjoy the original version of ff7 ff8 and ff12 to this day thanks for sharing your thoughts🤔🙏

The Ivalice thing has never been a theory. That one is straight up just true. They've always been intended to be the same world. You might find it hard to believe, but when several games are set in a place called "Ivalice" then it's not likely those are different.

Jenova and FF16 Ultima are the same race.

Nah. 16!Ultima is basically Yaweh: just some (admittedly powerful) asshole, but still a local creation. Now, Jenova and _Lavos...._ now *that's* worth thinking about. Both are (1) aliens that (2) travel the cosmos and infect habitable planets to (3) manipulate evolution to steal beneficial traits, (5) by means of infecting local species through biological and psychological means, (6) often corrupting them into violent states in a "conflict breeds growth" manner, before (7) trashing the planet on their way out to make sure they don't leave anything to grow (I presume to prevent something like themselves from evolving, that could therefore threaten them).

Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Stories and lastly Final Fantasy XIV are all in the same world 👍🏻

I mean Squall could happen, given XV's endgame is claimed to be "Noctis" memories should you go back into the open world, so it could easily be Squall too (Either that, or it's an abandoned arc that became Noctis's arc). Has anyone else just wondered if the mutiple characters we see like Biggs and Wedge, just reincarnations of each other? Given how much Hindu and Buddha lore is across the series, it wouldn't be too farfetch (You literally got Shiva as a summon, appearing with a different face, then there's Lakshmi even if she is in a painting. You got Rakshashas appearing as well as other mythology). Which could easily tie into the Eve theory, maybe some characters have different names. Cloud and Noctis kind of act and dress similar to be honest. I could see Tifa's past life being Terra or someone (Yes I know it's different universes, but I dunno, it could just be incarinations across different universes, giving them second lives in different worlds. Maybe Aerith was Rydia's future life.). Of course all just theories, but fun to think about.

The "Squall Dies" theory actually makes a lot of sense for a lot of things in the story. That being said, as much as I want that theory to be real, I just think that the story has simply been butchered and just doesn't make much sense period. The theory doesn't explain both Laguna scene before the end of disc 1, presence of Ellone throughout disc 1 and the white SeeDs after graduation.

Gilgamesh and Shared Ivalice world are facts, not theories.

The Squall theory is a good one but at the point when squall dies Rinoa isn’t in love with him yet and is still pining after Seifer. Also the ff7 biblical reference isn’t a theory, a few of the ff games make religious and biblical references and comparisons, usually pointing out religion is evil. The Japanese view organised religion differently than the rest of the world.

It was Cloud that actually killed Aerith, look at what happens when she is laid to the lake, she sinks vs floating.

one I like is this one FF 4 and FF 6 or the same world, the end of FF 4 sees the end of nearly all magic more so if you take the after years into this, so then there is a war with man trying to get the last of the magic VS the summons and monster, man loss said war, and it devatas and changes the world 1,000 years pass or more and FF 6 tale place

Every time I try and explain why Rinoa is Ultimecia I feel like a Christian trying to tell everyone Jesus is coming back. All the signs are there all throughout the entirety of the piece, I don't understand why Kitasi is so against the idea when it's obvious the team writing the game left dozens of hints suggesting this. Even in later titles like Dissidea these hints exist.

Fft ff12 vagrant story are canonically all a part of Eorzea in ff14, a continent in the game. This was proven by the creator of fft and lore inside stormblood's alliance raids

I wished the Fabula Nova Crystallis were able to take off just as much as the Ivalice Alliance. It would make for two very interesting mythological groups within FF. And I wonder whether ff16 will span a new such group or fall within an already existing one, like in ff6's or ff9's. It's already confirmed that ff10 and ff7 are linked, too. But maybe not all FFs need to adhere to that grouping, anyways.

It's so aan awesome there is Square Enix Sales in Spring Sale 2024, I've bought Final Fantasy X/X2 Remastereds and XV from surprisilly good sales, and I should buy Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to PlayStation 5, 70€ is a lot of money, but I believe it's worth it for FF 7 Rebirth 1 of the most expected and greatest games of 2024. Sepiroth, Cloud and Tifa are my favourite Final Fantasy characters and I really like Final Fantasy VII games and how much diffrent versions there is. I have the Original Ps1 Final Fantasy VII and Vii Ever Crisis on pc. About of Sepiroth and Cloud, sometimes I don't know are they enemies or friendenemies. 😮😅

I'm sorry. "for a series as long running and consistently fresh..." dude, nothing Square Enix has put out in the last 20 years has been fresh. Now, I will say that there is the possibility that Final Fantasy 16 is "fresh" since I haven't played it, but considering their track record, I highly doubt it.

With 16, and 14 being the possible exceptions (since I haven't played them), the best that any entry in the flagship franchises for SE have gotten is "its ok." And this is coming from someone who, to this day still believes that the golden age of final fantasy (essentially Final Fantasies 6-10), are some of the best games ever made, and Kingdom Hearts 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. But seriously, Final Fantasy 11 and 14 are MMO's, so I don't really expect much from them (though I have heard good things about 14. Unfortunately I'm not willing to make that time investment.) 12 was just boring. I played through that game 3 times, and I still can't remember the story, and the only characters I actually remember anything substantial about are Balthier (because he is the leading man), and Vaan (because he was shoehorned into the plot as the "main character" so hard that I'm surprised there isn't a Vaan shaped lump sticking out of the box.). 13 was crap. The story, the characters, the gameplay. That game was a chore to play. 15 was the epitome of wasted potential. There were a ton of cool concepts in that game, that could have lead to interesting stories, but they didn't do anything with them. That game wears its development issues on its sleeve, and proudly displays it. Remake/Rebirth, I could write a PHD thesis on those games. Between the complete disregard for major aspects of the original story (I get that its more of a sequel than an actual remake, but its still following the basic outline of the original story, so that point still stands.), the absolutely awful pacing, and more shoehorning in of characters into places and situations where it makes absolutely no sense for them to be there (I'm looking mostly at Rebirth for this one, and how they just decided to pull friggin ALL of their Remake OC's out and arbitrarily plop them into various parts of the story for no reason other that for people to say "hey, I recognize that character!"

That said, even if both 16 and 14 were absolute bangers, that is still only 2 out of 9, and that is only looking at mainline Final Fantasies. I personally wouldn't call 2 of 9 to be consistent by any stretch of the imagination.

The very existence of that game goes against your entire statement And let's not forget the titles thy published like gotg,hitman woa ,tomb raider survivor trilogy and the lis series. Most these theories were debunked and do not make sense anyway. Even the Spira is Gaia from FF7 that is confirmed is stupid as al bhed rhonso and other races are NEVER referenced. We hear only of the Cetra and Gi in FF7 that were supposedly there since the start and they are never referenced ever in FF10. The gilgamesh teory was pretty much confirmed by Gilgamesh himself in some entries confirming FF is a multiverse
