when browsing for books to read, i always look for book reviews. that is why i bring you the top 10 books i think i'll give 5 stars to that quickly turned into a very chatty video about my unread books and me losing my mind over some of the new book releases of 2024 as well as some popular book releases. booktube and bootkok have buzzed about some of these books… but will i enjoy them? i hope you guys enjoy this one and come out with more books to add to your TBR and some good book recommendations for 2024!

It feels like the book community is sleeping on Aiden Thomas, so I'm ecstatic that you're hyped for The Sunbearer Trials! While I felt Cemetary Boys was better, I did really enjoy Sunbearer, and I can't wait for the sequel to come out!

I promise the queer community is NOT sleeping on Aidan Thomas. I see him recommended constantly in queer spaces
4:35 when it comes to the night circus is better to go in blind not knowing much, I DNF it a few years ago because the blurb made me believe it was something that while yes it is an aspect of the book, is not the main plot so I had a different idea going into and I hated it 😭 but I decided to give it a second chance and I’m the happiest I did because I loved it so much as well as the starless sea. Both are really different yet they are whimsical and feel like a fairytale and they’re just beautiful and they’re not necessarily fast reads but yet they are captivating so I truly hope you love the night circus and give the starless sea a second chance ❤

Same. The blurb made me go "mm nope!" and then when I finally went "fck it let's give it a read", I was crying at the end.
I agree that I like going into a read knowing as little as possible! I don’t even like knowing the tropes they feel so spoilery to me, and a girl hates being spoiled for anything 😂 loved this video as always 🖤🌊
🌊 looking forward to the next few month I think the following will end up being 5 stars: - Blood Over Bright Haven - The Shadow of What Was Lost - Priory of the Orange Tree

Priory is one of my absolute favorites!! I hope you love it or loved it if you’ve read it by now❤
NOT that looks are everything but you are so pretty I just cannot 🤣❤️ I have a couple of these on my TBR and am so excited!! I also have where the lemon trees grow and I too have not been ready to be emotionally rocked
this edition of Lemon Trees is to die for 😭🍋 I read the book earlier this year and I adored it, I have a hunch you really will give it 5 stars
11:41 ooh I loved This Viscous Grace. Very angsty romance
GIRLLLL our Girl is on a role this year. LETSSSS GOOOOO WE LOVE YOU MEL
I will say everything I know about love starts off slow with some essays but push through bc I really loved it!
I love your outfit in this video! You look so good with that jacket! 🥰
I love the night circus 🥹
I'm obsessed with your glasses
My last two five stars were Their Vicious Games by Joelle Wellington and The Disappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson. I have definitely been on a mystery thriller kick this year 😊
Mel you look amazing as always !!!! 🩷🩷🩷🩷
The Sunbearer Trials is great, gave it 4 stars and can't wait for book 2 Celestial Monsters (released on September 3). I might re-read it soon-ish because it's been a while since I have read the first one. With the way it ends, I recommend maybe reading it closer to the release date For our wives under the sea, I liked the writing, but I wish we got more from Leah and what happened in the submarine.
The last 5 star I read was The Rest of You by Maame Blue. I received an ARC copy through Netgalley. I was absolutely amazed by this. It's about the Black British experience, told over different decades by three women from the same family. It was heartbreaking, and touching, and funny, and I loved it. I absolutely recommend it to everyone to read; it's out in October. Support BIPOC authors!
The Sunbearer Trials was absolutely fantastic ❤
Just finished the audio book for one dark window and twisted two crowns and omg 5 star for sure x
The night circus!….is wonderful, unique, captivating…I can’t say enough! It is a favourite of mine, I have never had a book reach the depths of my imagination like this book, I think about it all the time.
🌊 'wives under the sea' premise sounds so interesting but I've heard mixed reviews. Looking forward to your opinion ❤❤
I'd say that for me, our wives under the sea read a bit fever dreamy. But since I enjoy books like that, I loved it🌊
The sunbearer trials was a 4.5 stars for me! I need to reread it before the last book in the duology comes out later this year. Hope you enjoy it!
wait I totally thought u already read the Night Circus!!! omg it's sooooo good
Oooo I see the Night Circus in the thumbnail… I have read and adored this book. Little tip DO NOT READ the blurb, another tip read it immersively with audiobook in ears and book in hand. It is beautiful and a really wonderfully written book. With the two books that Morgenstern has written you will love one or the other, I haven’t seen many that love both. I tried reading The Starless Sea and nope it just didn’t work for me, I might try it again but it was so so different. She does only have two books out. As you have already dnf’d The Starless Sea I am more positive that you will really like the Night Circus, the competition and the romance is fantastic

I would even buddy read this with you, it is bloody beautiful and I think you will be team Night Circus 🎪🤗🤗
🌊 Love your vlogs
I loved One Dark Window. It was a 5 star for me. It had a cool magic system, I liked the characters, and it had really cool dark creepy, almost gothic vibes. I'm currently reading the second book, and so far, it is looking like a 5 star book, too!
So far I’m like 194 pages into The Night Circus and I kinda feel like it’s a bit over hyped? I mean I’m def gonna finish it but it’s so far ⭐️⭐️💀 but we’ll see. ((Take with a grain of salt tho ‘cause I DNF’d Lair of Dreams half way through and I know the Diviners is one of your favs and personally they give similar vibes ? ))
I’m sending you love❤❤❤
I really want to read one dark window again cause I did not like it when I read it the first time. I’m starting to think it’s just me at this point cause I feel like everyone else loves it
The SUNBEARER TRIALS! I read this book last year and loved it. I also read Lost in the Never Woods and really didn't like it. It was entirely too long and it just wasn't the book for me. BUT The Sunbearer Trials was awesome. People keep saying it's Hunger Games (which I didn't like), but I think that's just because of the "games" aspect.
Our wives under the sea was so unsettling but also romantic and lyrical!! Highly recommend… pero quizás es mejor leerlo durante el día cuz I was scared reading it after dark! 😂 I think Julia Armfield’s short story collection, Salt Slow, might be a 5 star for me!
Hii! New subscriber here 👋🏽 I wanted to ask if you have any videos or if you could explain your process for taking notes while you read? I have adhd and I’m a kind of fast reader but I love reading however I have a hard time pausing and writing something but i do find that I forget certain details so sometimes I tend to over-do my notes and they turn into paragraphs 😅. Advice?
I just watched your old 5 star predictions video lol. I'm curious how many of those you ended up giving 5 stars?
I love One For My Enemy and The Night Circus!! I think I rated both of them a 4.5 but in my heart they’re a 5 star anytime I think about them
🌊 Personal opinion : Omegaverse honestly is only good when it's bl 😂😂 Night circus is definitely a 5 ⭐! I avoided it for so long because of the blurb but oh my it was such an experience. Made me feel like i was there! I was crying at the end Omg yes. Lemon tress! I finally read this in march and definitely 5⭐ (felt like the right time since 🍉). I cried soo much. (Literally most of the books that make me cry are 5⭐) I saw not so great reviews for one for my enemy. But idk really
ONE DARK WINDOW. ONE FOR MY ENEMY. PEAK.
One Dark Window is SO good! This Vicious Grace was a disappointment for me 😢 I would love to hear your thoughts on both so read them soon!! hehe
an unexpected 5 star was the graham effect by elle kennedy
Delilah Green doesn’t care we’re so good. I like the second book but not as much as I loved Delilah’s book.
cute jacket. 🤎

I would argue on the sentence of “shortage of good sapphic books” I use to say that sentence thinking that it would make more “sapphic books appear” but it just showed me that I lacked research and thought🫠 Sapphic isn’t a genre. It’s an identity that is part of the storytelling. So i think it’s a matter of subjectivity. Depending of the type of romance you want, you’ll find a sapphic book for it. Maybe try lesfic. Is lesbian fiction lists on goodreads that has many books written by sapphic authors. I think there isn’t a shortage of “good sapphic books” I just think that there isn’t enough hype for sapphic books in general. Compared to its counterparts. It gets trashed out and criticized higher than most. However there still is a difference and lack of lesbian books in terms of diversity within it compared to other romance categories but I do see it gettin better year by year.
