Kudos for popping layer section in at no. 1. It's a phenomenal and very pure shooter experience, with amazing visuals, design, and music. You really feel like you are on a mission descending from outer space to the earth's core. The music is some of the best on the system. It also inspired the likes of panzer dragoon, so is a really important and influential game outside traditional shooters (though clearly inspired soukyugurentai as well).

Great video thanks. The Saturn was epic for shmups. You’ve picked some good ones - I’m lucky to own them all I think. The ones I think you’re missing are Hyper Duel, Soukyugurentai and battle Garegga.

Great video! I'd somehow never heard of Blast Wind, so thanks for highlighting that one. Seeing Radiant Silvergun again really makes me regret selling my copy a number of years ago, I've got such nostalgia for that one. There was something so wonderful back in the day about having what, to me, was an arcade perfect port on the Saturn.

You're in luck, Radiant Silvergun's been rereleased on modern consoles ever since the Xbox 360, it's also on Steam and the Switch

Great video. Shmups aren't my favourite genre, but I absolutely love Layer Section. So, so good!

My favourites are Galactic Attack, Dodonpachi and Radiant Silvergun. Saturn is great for shooters!

Agree with Layer Section for number 1. I would add Sonic Wings Special on the list, and maybe Kyokyoku Tiger 2 Plus.

Tengai came out on Switch, too. Though I’m more of a vertical shooter fan myself.

Some fantastic choices. Thunderforce V is brilliant as it's a little more forgiving then most of the other choices. Dodonpachi is a curious one as it also has a very odd scoring system as if I recall correctly, if you collect enough wasp icons and don't use any bombs you get the proper ending...definitely one for the 1cc crowd! Very surprised at Layer Section being number 1 though. It's very good but I'd have had it feature a bit lower myself. All opinion though it course! I would have had DonPachi-lite Gekirindan in there and there's other great choices of course like In The Hunt, Soukyugurentai, Gunbird, the two or three Parodies games and more. I feel a separate vid coming in the future just looking at the various classic shmup packs the Saturn had. Could probably manage ten just for those 😂 Did you ever play Dezaemon 2 on Saturn? That was a create your own shmup game with a few included short ones to show it off. Worth a quick look if you haven't

I simply would change Radiant Silvergun to No.1 and Galactic Attack to No.2... and because I´m not a big fan of bullet hell, maybe I would take out one bullet hell and put the SALAMANDER DELUXE PACK in there (but that includes more than one game).

Darius gaiden is the best sidescrolling shoot em up game on the saturn. If not the best the best shoot em up side scroller game ever made. I wish more shoot em ups in the 90s had this art design.

I personally would've chosen Hyper Duel over Blast Wind, it's a much better game and you can transform into a mech with a massive plasma cannon... that's an easy win in my book. And not having Battle Garegga on the list? That's sacrilege mate. Anyways great list, and yes Layer Section is a bloody excellent game for sure.

My Top Ten Saturn Shmups is a topic SO COMPLEX I can't really do it justice BOTH BECAUSE My Saturn Shmup knowledge is VERY LIMITED AND I have a lot yet to play 😅 Though if we narrow it down to JUST FIVE; That's SLIGHTLY more doable... My Top 5 Saturn Shmups I've experienced are... 5. DoDonPachi 4. Sokyugurentai 3. Layer Section/Galactic Attack 2. Salamander 2 (in the "Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus" Compilation, but I felt it worthy to pack in 😇) 1. Radiant Silvergun (MY FAVORITE Saturn Game ON THE CONSOLE) Though this video WANTS ME TO CHECK MORE SATURN Shmups out!! Great Video; Segaholic!! - Takeshi "Mr. Jiswa" Kinniku

You wonder why this console didn't do very well in North America, while most of these amazing shmups never left Japan. Older gamers like myself salivated over games like these.

I agreed with most of this video but disagree that radiant silvergun was arcade perfect because it wasn't it slows down to much when the game gets really exciting so I play the arcade perfect Xbox 360 version with English subtitles blissfully beautiful...

That’s interesting, given that it runs on the Sega Titan Video board which is pretty much a Saturn. Is there a chance that both the arcade and Saturn versions slow down in the same places, and the greater power of the 360 simply irons that out? Glad you enjoyed the video!

Soukyuu Gurentai best ı think. but levels goes not impressive as firt level espcial bacround 3d use. layer section 2 as 3d shumpsgame better than first game galactic attack for saturn. funny to saturn fans praise shmups machnie to choice many 2d shmups. console have space shotoer like stellar assoult ss 3d. or starfox games likes g vector galaxy force 2 arcade version etc. shmups fans should know non shumps game effect like after burner 2 did on mega drive. the idea of saying 2d shumps best side of saturn like saying mortal kombat 2d games better than 3d virtua fighter on saturn. saying like cotton 2 best game on saturn for some insulft for saturn. cotton even have 3d looking version on mega drive.
