I agree. That's a good strategy. But the procrastination problem can be a big one. Everyone procrastinates but to different degrees. People who suffer from anxiety are much more prone to it, specially if the anxiety is related to being behind in life in fundamental domains due to lack of self-worth/self-confidence. Procrastination is a powerful escape from things that scare us, that confronts us with our immense flaws, and, more than that, it feels pleasurable in the beginning, like an addiction, so one indulges in instant gratification in order to escape from negative emotion, anxiety or depression. Then procrastination increases anxiety and depression, and one gets more behind in life too, so it is a damn circle. I love what I study, but I have GERD (which gives me anxiety about the future), I've never had a relationship and I'm 29, I feel like an impostor in my PhD, I've had overstrict parents who forced me to study, so even though I like the process of studying, my background anxiety always sabotages me. I'm not saying there isn't a solution, anxiety management, meditation, mindfulness and many techniques help me. But I could be much much more productive. I could have already "conquered the world"

some ideas: - add sth enjoyable (food, drinks, music, podcast, netflix, massage chair, pet, friend) - be in enjoyable environment (cozy clothes, blanket, outside, coffee shop, ambience music) - gamify it (whats the most efficient way to do the dishes, how much can I do in 5 minutes, play final fantasy battle music and trigger success music when a task is finished, pretend you are a professional at your task and someone hired you, pretend that you’re a streamer and explain others what you’re doing while you do it) - learn about it (Ugh I have to read this book… but hey this book came out the year my grandma was born and the author’s favorite food was reverse pizza and the publisher also published my favorite book and the pages seem to be made of 60 mg paper which is actually better than 80 mg paper because… etc. Basically become a little nerdy and get excited about the details. The human mind can become excited for pretty much everything.)

YEAAH!!!! I kinda realized this but thank you so much for phrasing this way. It's not about how to stop doing something It's about how TO DO another thing. You need to attack the reasons why you're putting off, especifically, use some 80/20, release the bottleneck and the rest will flow. Is it vagueness (that's the main one)? Is it lack interest or intrinsic value? Is cause you want to do something else? At It's core is not a lack of energy or motivation, cause you can do stuff, some progress, with both basically on 0. It's cause you're really bad at planning, breaking things down and organizing. You can break things enough to a point that requires such a low effort that would be embarassing to say you can't do. It's a lot about being smart and corageous to ask questions, a lot of times we hesitate for insecurities, well, be a stoic and bare things to their real form. Thanks for the epiphany.

I think there’s a mistaken meaning here. Procrastinating is not avoiding what we should do, but what we would like to achieve. That’s why procrastination is such a topic : why would we avoid doing something we actually choosed ourselves ? It’s much more different. So the answer to it is different to. To me is not only about enjoying more. Cause seems evident to say : who wouldn’t want to enjoy more his work ?? But it comes much more complicated to know how to do it and still keeping achieving one personal’s goal. Simple exemple : about learning piano. Can seems a lot more enjoyable at first to just easily memorise a few notes from a piece we like and that sounds good and play them. So that would be : « enjoy it » advice. You can put in front « boring advice » which might be : learn first music theory (I say « might » cause depends on people). But actually the answer is none of these. Answer would be to create some specific task which will be clear enough and easy enough to feel you have really achieved something after a limited time (1 hour for exemple) and which make you feel closer (even just a little) to the farer goal you choosed. So real topic is more about how to achieve something that might seem huge, too long or too complicated.

#1 Consume brain food. Studies show that the brain uses up to around 20% of glucose in the body. You may feel extremely burned out at the end of the day and cannot study. Brain food will help you focus. #2 Use a timer. Timers may turn up your brain's fight or flight response and help you focus. #3 Take regular naps. No explaining required

I think you’re right, but I would like to add that there are medical reasons procrastination can happen. I developed a lot of clarity once I receive a CPTSD diagnosis. Turns out that my procrastination was actually a form of disassociation. But because I thought it was just procrastination it took me years to come to a realization. I hope people reading this who are having ongoing procrastination problems that do not seem solvable by conventional methods. Look into talking with a therapist and getting an actual diagnosis.

That's exactly my problem too- no matter what everyone says about making things more enjoyable to stop procrastinating, it doesn't motivate me to actually put my head down and do it. It may also be an issue of me knowing that I don't enjoy it in the first place so any 'tricks' to try to get me to do it just doesn't work. Maybe that's a stubborn mindset getting in the way, I don't know, but all the techniques of making studying fun just seems like a scam in my head, hence no motivation.

This is more enjoyable because I'm not getting lost and confused since I can always trace it back to the main topic and I can visually see if I am getting off track or going in too much detail on anything in particular. This way of studying allows me to see the big picture, which I really appreciate, because it helps my ADHD brain stay on track.

I think a better question is, why I hate that thing, Not how to make it more enjoyable. For me I hate studying because if I study early, I will play later and that means I will forget about some of my studying, and will have to review before exams. But only studying close to the exam, means I will get extra focus from the stress I usually get, and that I don't have to review stuff, and they material are fresh in my Brain, without having to spend more time on both a review and studying. Asking why is better than asking how you change it. For example, why do I don't really like or hate my wife, or how to make the time with my wife more enjoyable?? The first one is better, since it makes you work with your inner mind, and explain your behaviors so you can fix why do they happen.

I used to be a good student till grade 5.That was probably because my mother used to force me to study even though sometimes i didn't wanted to (i had "consistency"). And of course, that actually helped me. I hardly ever scored below 90% in my elementary school. By the time i went to grade 6, there was sudden lockdown. My mother got relaxed too, and I didn't even open my book to prepare for exams. I got good grades by cheating in all my exams. The same thing happened in grade 7 also. In grade 8, when finally offline classes started, it wasn't like i couldn't catch up with things. I was able to understand every concept. My mother, she told me that now i'm old enough to study on my own if i really want to continue studying (of course that's right). But by this time, i had developed the habit of procrastinating things, and this time, i procrastinated studying and got bad grades the entire 8th. Currently, i'm in grade 9, half of it is over, and i still procrastinate.

Its called "Hating what you want to do" which typically means you don't wanna do it. It is normal for depressed people to have it because we don't give a shit. We are so burned out that we just say "Fuck it, what's three more hours hurt?" And we just do something to help us refocus back on the set task...

I actually tried that combined with my ego So i told myself everybody is watching u everybody is waiting to hear about how much u wil get , u may say bo nobody cares about me YOU ARE WRONG because Your mom does ur aunt does ur relatives may hear that u got a shiti mark and open that topic at luch . Soo i said i would work hard because i have an ego and i needed to prove to myself that I CAN FKING DO IT And DO WHATEVER I SAY I CAN DO Then to the people around me + and in terms of how to make whatever u hate more enjoyable . My favorite way is listening to music and no i dont mean when taking a break im saying in the middle of studying for ex by going to youtube for 5 minutes every 30 minutes of studying And just listening to music for couple of minutes and thats it

Idk I enjoy another thing just as much as I enjoy one thing and the procrastination just splits it in the middle no don’t not want to do something, I just don’t want to actively get ready to start doing something when I could be relaxing and doing something else. Great video though man!

Procrastinating usually happens to me when there's a lot of works crammed up in 1 day that is due on the next day. I don't know how people somehow get more focus when they have pressure, but for me, it's the exact opposite.

This is spot on! Its either dislike, hatred, fear, tedious, or boring which all are negative. Trying to convert something from boring to enjoyable is indeed a great concept. It could then potentially be something fun and something you like instead of something you dislike. Its difficult, and i want to try making studying enjoyable and fun. Simlar to when playing a game or watching anime or a show. How shall me and others do that? Is it possible lol? When we do this activities it can sometimes be like an addiction. I wish i could get an fun addiction to school, it would probably make my grades much better. Very interesting.

Proscrastinating is not doing something that i don't want to do, it's more of like fear and anxiety for me. I want to do it but at the same time i have so much fear around it.

For me, the #1 reason I don't like studying is the pressure from a mean instructor. Just by not trying to please them and don't care about their opinion of me, studying is wayyyyyyyyyyyy more enjoyable than before.
