Its hard to imagine that Ren sang this at Joe's funeral. There is also a video version on KZread where Ren sang a few months later live. And a further, a version that includes a slide show of pictures of Joe, many with Ren. You were very brave to listen to this in front of a camera, I never would have even tried. Be well.

This take is so fresh, his best bud Joe just died a few months before Ren wrote this song. He was very heavy into feeling guilty and to add that his own mind and body was breaking down from the autoimmune disease caused by the Lymes. Again yrs before he was ever diagnosed with it.

Right... He has a tune called Suicide. Also about his mate Joe... Then he re-kills it with a track called For Joe... Wich is a medley of Suicide and This... Thank you Roni. I recently bought 3 CDs by Ren: Demos (Do Not Share), Violet's Tale which includes 7 tracks, and the album, Freckled Angels. Wow! What an incredible album. Not a single filler song! Not a single dud! This song always cuts so deep. Joe must have been an amazing friend to have this effect on Ren. Also, this was such a beautiful reaction.

This one broke me also as it struck very close to home. I lost my first love to suicide after she graduated from university at the age of 15. Her tragic life was just too stressful and painful for a young inexperienced man/child? to overcome, regardless of my efforts. The term "gifted" is often a cruel irony when it robs one of their childhood and adolescence. I loved again, several times, but never forgot my first. I would have thought less of your reaction had you not shown the size of your heart so openly.

These hit so hard for me.I grew up i what so say is the "ROUGH" side of town. From the age of 14 til 20 I lost a friend every summer from horrible HORRIBLE ways..2 bad car wreck, 1 suicide and the worst the best friend I ever had and my cousin were murder when were 18. I was 15 min late meeting them.That 15 minutes has haunted me everyday since then.I pulled up to see them lying in road next to each other. I will alwayd wonder WHAT IF I could have gotten there in time to maybe stop it or atleast tell my BF I was sorry...I had saw him hrs early st my house and he mad at me because I had smoke some pot with my cousin and he didnt want me doing that.He always told me out of all of us I was the one intelligent enough to make something of myself and get out of there.He never said a word to me,he didnt have to because the look of disapointment on his face was enought to cut right thru me.That was over 30yrs ago amd it still cuts tnru me!! Ive prayed for 1 minute with him just to say "I love you brother and Im sorry"

I'm was inspired as well. I've saved a few friends, and myself, emotionally from suicide. And, one physically. Unlike Ren's story, I made it in time and was able to wrap my best friend's wrist's and call for help in time. I teach high school and sometime we need to touch on these topics to help the kids. I plan on performing this and an original I wrote on the topic at an upcoming assembly to bring awareness and hope. At anytime, either can make me cry while singing them. Beautiful song and beautiful reaction. Much love!

And yes, it is so important to talk to kids now days in a mature and responsible manner, yet warm and kind about this subject. It's so easy to think that this is the best way "out". And it's not. @@ronireacts_to_all Very sweet, m'lady. This week I'm going to share the lyrics with some of my groups. I'm going to ask them to analyze and guess the artist. Selfishly, the answer is me, but I hope they see that they can hurt and still live beautiful lives. I've lived a lifetime of hurt, but I now live in a world of joy. I don't need an alarm clock. Knowing that the guys are going to fist-bump me and the ladies are going to bow when I bow to them, is priceless. I wait until every student has left. Always! I'm going to play my song with my students. My job is rhythm guitar. The singer, the drummer, the bass and the lead guitar will only be based on my students.

Such a beautiful song, gets me every time. ❤ I think it is especially important that Ren has done a lot to normalise men being loving and openly devoted to their friends. So many guys have been able to talk about the people they have lost because of this song and the others Ren has been inspired to write because of Joe. Isn't that an incredible legacy? Thousands of people have now heard him sing to Joe and will never forget his name.

Thanks for this, I enjoyed your heartfelt reaction. I shed tears with you, even though I've heard this song a hundred times or more now. The more you discover about Ren, the man and what he's endured in life, the more you appreciate the artistry with which he expresses the hurts he has felt. This particular song was written just months after the event - if you get a chance please watch the video of ren playing it live 13 years ago. He rushes it a bit to get through it, but its fantastic performance that shows the courage of the man that he would need to survive the crushing illness which took away his promising career and left him bed bound for so long.

There's a video of photos of them in a montage format... with this song... it hits differently seeing them having Soooo much Fun, and the friendship they shared together! Knowing he was later just a few minutes late from possibly saving him!!! I Cannot imagine living with that! Especially shortly afterwards... getting Soooo Sick, being misdiagnosed, experimented on with drugs that made things worse... Plus... the PAIN too!!! I can't imagine that!!! But we have the pleasure of Ren having lived thru that by means of his artistic works!!! RIP Joe Hughs!!!

Yes, Joe must have been really special, but what kind of man will write and publicly perform a song like this in front of a crowd - not to mention continue for 13 years honoring and memorializing a friend like he has. Ren's heart has been broken more than many (in one of his songs, he writes "my heart breaks one thousand times a day"), yet he has managed to escape bitterness. I love him.

I'm glad! I really want to get better at writing. Scripts, songs, letters even just IG posts. You know, be one of those posts you can't swipe past. Make a movie that leaves an audience in awe. Write a song that people will feel and connect with. Hmm. Connection. Maybe that's the word I was looking for. 🩷🙏🎶🎸🫂

Hugs here, too. Meant to warn you that obviously Su¡c:de, For Joe and sadly How To Be Me, too, would spring the same trap. Then saw you know For Joe already, that may soften the impact of Su¡c:de. Don't mean you not to do reactions on them, but maybe shuffle some funny ones in-between. Maybe some The Big Push videos, or Bittersweet Symphony, Losing It, or Right Here, Right Now...

I watched "For Joe" (didn't record it unfortunately) and yes it was so impactful. Loved the connection back to Freckled Angeles there. And I'm still waiting on Su!c:de - trying to have more "fun" videos first.

Highly Recommend: Crutch Hold On Fire Love Music trilogy Etc... To be added to you no doubt Long list of Ren to do tracks! Lol PS... Seeing ya get tore up like that hurt me just as much as the song does! :( Perhaps a Fun Track next... Losing It from Ren is a whole New level for ya! Loads of Fun... gonna Like it I bet!!!
