There's a reason why Randy Rhoads is so respected even more than 40 years after his passing. He was only 25 when he died. Nobody can imagine how his career would have evolved had he lived on because he was so ahead of his time. Also, a wizard’s voice is never flat. He sings precisely where means to.

nobody...and i mean nobody was playing guitar like this in 1981, let alone 2023. He was so far beyond the EVH "flash" stuff at the time. This was done in front of 15 people at an obscure cable tv station....and it was light years ahead of everyone else. This is why his legacy has lasted over 40 years....this is timeless guitar playing that hasnt been done before or since. Tommy Aldridge has flat out said Randy was the greatest musician he ever played with or ever WILL...watch Aldridge as they close this song down....he glances over at Randy and knows hes witnessing greatness...

Definitely in his own category…the way he orchestrated whole songs is unmatched.

Saw Black Sabbath on their first USA tour and it changed my life. From that point on I have been a metal head. I'm 71 and still love seeing metal bands live. Metal is one genre where the fan loyalty is for life. If you watch closely at Ozzy while Randy is doing his solo he is smiling and enjoying watching Randy wing it.

One thing I love about Ozzy's vocals is that he might not be the best vocalist in the world, but he has such a unique, one of a kind voice.

Randy Rhoads (guitar) was born in California in 1956... his mom Delores was a music teacher and her son would end up teaching guitar at her school at age 16 because he was that gifted... Randy's life changed when he saw Alice Cooper in concert in 1971 and decided he wanted to be a rock guitarist... He played in small bands in high school and eventually formed Quiet Riot around 1975 w/ his friend Kelli Garni (bass) and Kevin DuBrow (vocals)... Garni was eventually fired after an altercation w/ DuBrow and bassist Rudy Sarzo joined. Quiet Riot found themselves drawing well locally in the West Coast clubs in a scene that included Van Halen... They were briefly signed and released 2 albums in Japan only, but Quiet Riot sold poorly by 1979 ... as Van Halen took off and became huge nationally. Randy Rhoads was struggling to make it in music and still taught guitar to make a living... He was asked to audition for a spot in Ozzy Osbourne's solo band in '79, and he had no idea who Ozzy was, nor familiar w/ Black Sabbath... Ozzy was completely drunk and vaguely remembered this guitar player snapping him out of his stupor and hired Randy Rhoads on the spot... For his part, Randy was just warming up when Ozzy said, "You got the job." Of course, Ozzy sobered up the next day and said he dreamt he had hired a guitar player... He was told he had. Ozzy was shocked... "I hope he's good!" As it turned out, when Randy Rhoads played his guitar, Ozzy was floored... He and Randy got to work right away. Randy would sit w/ Ozzy patiently and play him his ideas... If Ozzy like something, he would go, "Let's work on that." Ozzy would come up w/ vocal melodies as Randy played guitar and that was how the first 2 Ozzy solo records ('Blizzard of Ozz' and 'Diary of a Madman') were written and recorded in 1980... Bob Daisley (bass) wrote the lyrics to Ozzy's vocal ideas and melodies and Lee Kerslake (drums) and Don Airey (keyboards) recorded the albums. Ozzy's played his first solo shows without Black Sabbath in 1980 and were touring the US in 1981... Randy Rhoads was suddenly playing to huge crowds and still spent his days on tour learning from other guitarists on the road... However, Ozzy's life backstage was chaos and constant fighting between him and his manager (later wife) Sharon... Randy considered leaving the band, but Ozzy convinced him to stay, promising to make him a millionaire. There were issues w/ Daisley and Kerslake on tour, so they were replaced by Quiet Riot bassist Rudy Sarzo and Pat Travers Band drummer Tommy Aldridge in 1981. This was the line-up that was filmed in this clip - one of the rare footage of Randy Rhoads performing in Ozzy's band. By the Spring of 1982, Ozzy's career was taking off... the tour was getting bigger and selling out... Ozzy was booked to play Madison Square Garden in NYC that Summer. However, tragedy struck when the tour came to Florida. Randy Rhoads got on a small engine plane on a day off w/ some of the crew... The plane flew too low at one point and hit the tour bus. It spun out of control, crashed into a nearby house and burst into flames... Randy Rhoads was killed in the crash at age 25. Ozzy and Sharon were devastated after the loss of Randy Rhoads... Ozzy said it was over, but Sharon insisted he carry on for Randy. A replacement guitarist was brought in to tour and eventually Night Ranger guitarist Brad Gillis did a bulk of the Ozzy shows that year, including the Madison Square Garden show and did the live album (and concert video) 'Speak of the devil'. A live Ozzy record w/ Randy Rhoads on guitar was shelved... It was released by Ozzy in 1987 as the 'Randy Rhoads Tribute' live album.

Growing up listening to Black Sabbath and Loving it, when Ozzy came out with his first solo album, Blizzard of Ozz, I immediately snagged it. This song and all the others were played on repeat over and over again. Randy is a Guitar God, and Daisley, Kerslake, and Airey play wonderful together. Great reaction, Aileen! Loved that whole "Dairy of a Mad Man", "Crazy Train", 1983 Ozzy thing. I was a junior in high-school and had my first car. This tape was in the tape deck constantly. Never will forget those days. Being a guitarist myself, Randy Rhoads played like a machine in a very good way. Sometimes before shows he would take guitar lessons from different teachers. He knew he was damn good but didn't have an ego. The funny thing is that he wasn't into Hard Rock or Metal he was classically trained. He might have gotten into it as time went by because you have to get into it to play like that. Ozzy loved Randy and treated him like a younger brother. Too many great guitarists died at a young age and Randy was one of them.

A great video. It clearly shows Randy's Classical training. The way he plays on the fretboard is purely classical. He keeps his fingers arched high. Rudy, on bass, is a master and he's played for pretty much everybody. Love this song.

This was my first song song that I ever heard from Ozzy! When I first heard him sing “MR CROWLEEEYYY” for the first time, I was so on board for Ozzy’s voice and been a fan ever since! And now you’re doing a reaction to it?? Can’t wait to get home later to see this in full 😭

My personal Diary I wrote the next day after the last show of Randy Rhoads in Knoxville Tennessee! RIP RANDY! YOU ARE SORELY MISSED! OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR: Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛‍♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on! Sincerely, Gary Lagstrom

This track was the first one I'd heard from Ozzy, and it was a live version. I fell in love with this track, and 40 years later I still get goosebumps when I hear the guitar break. Awesome track. It's also incredible how incoherent Ozzy is when he's off the stage, yet so lucid whilst he's singing. More Ozzy? From his solo career you could choose from "Bark at the moon", "Crazy train", "Diary of a madman", "Ultimate Sin", "Perry Mason". From his Black Sabbath era, "War Pigs", "Paranoid", "Iron man", "Sweet leaf", "The wizard", "Fairies wear boots", "N.I.B.", "Black Sabbath", and "God is dead?".

Randy Rhoads is a legend

Ozzy loved Randy so much he included Randy's tribute to his mom at the end of the Blizzard of Ozz album "Dee" is a short acoustic piece with no other musicians or ozzy. All Randy. All for his mom Dee. When Ozzy went to shoot the video for "Crazy Train" from the live album "Tribute", he hadn't seen that polka dot flying v since the day Randy died. His mother gave Ozzy Randy's guitar case and when he opened it up it was like he was slapped in the face with smells and images of Randy. A pack of Randy's cigarettes were in with the guitar. He rarely drank and didn't do drugs. Just smoked his cigs and played his guitars. That v is used prominently in the Crazy Train video. Years later and he released that live album as a tribute ,hence the title "Tribute" to Randy. Randy's mom was always grateful to Ozzy saying he had always been good to her son before and after his passing.

I love randy rhoads playing. With him having a classical background, complimented Ozzy soooo much. With Ozzy being so theatrical. Zach wilde played right into Ozzy's mental demeanor.

Epic guitarist, epic band , epic time .I was born in 89 I feel like my soul fits the 70s and 80s though , legend status , glad your discovering so many great sounds , it's like finding different pieces of your soul as you travel along life's winding road .

Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen played clubs within a couple blocks of each other for months in LA.

Ozzy is one of the most timeless rock and roll singers ever but what made him burst back onto the music scene after Sabbath was because of the guitarist in that video. Randy Rhoads was one of the greatest artists of all time and he was taken from us at the age of 25 years old. The song that I would suggest to do next is Steal away the Night/Revelation Mother Earth phenomenal solos throughout both songs and the outro//intro to Revelation is one point you should definitely concentrate on most

I saw Ozzy on the Diary of a Madman tour a short time before Randy died. I have seen a lot of guitarists and Randy was one of the very best. He was so much better live and i loved his work on the records. But he really did step it up live. Tragic loss. SO much more he could have done. RIP Randy.

Ozzy is God! Randy (R.I.P) Another example of music we'll never hear the same way. The solo hits me hard every time. Ozzys trial and tribulations and legacy are the reasons I still go forward to this day. His music and inspiration are beyond words! I have two tattoos portraying Ozzy! The cover of the tribute album and just Ozzy alone. Though he is unaware, he's been a life support for me. A title I can give to no one else.

I've always been a big Ozzy fan and Randy Roads was my favorite guitarist he was very special I loved his classical style with his solos another live video song you would have to do is I Don't Know Randy's solo in that song gives me goosebumps KZread used to have Crazy Train live but it's not on there anymore

Randy Rhodes was only 26 or 27 when he died tragically. I believe that he began taking lessons at age 9, and was a prodigious student. (Out-of-this-world!!!!) So, he really had not been doing this a long, long time. He was just damn good. Some are like that. Others blossom much later. He truly was a Franz Litzt on the electric guitar. Glad you enjoyed his solo.

Randy had such a beautiful spirit and was such an amazing guitar player. how he died was so tragic and the whole story and how it affected Ozzy is a profound and heart wrenching almost hard to believe chapter in rock/metal history.

When I started learning how to play metal when I was a teenager, Randy was the first major influence I found. My style of playing has changed since but I still mimic a lot of his style and consider him one of my biggest inspirations

Son tres hermanas Mexicanas de Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, who are insanely talented rock stars. They are quite young, 18, 21, 23 years old, but have been a band playing for over 10 years. So after Ozzy left Black Sabbath and when solo, he discovered this young kid with a classical guitar background named Randy rhoads who is still regarded to this day as one of the greatest most influential guitarists of all time. roads was the lead guitarist on Ozzy's first two albums before passing away in a tragic I think airplane or helicopter crash. since then, Ozzy has had a bunch of different guitarists and Ozzy purists will refer to his first two albums "Blizzard of Oz" and "diary of a madman" as THE ONLY two ozzy albums. Blizzard of Oz is the first and really kicks open the bar doors and announces that he is still a rock force and made a kick ass band... with diary of a madman, they showed off more depth and complexity and musicianship which was supposed to be the launching point of an amazing period of music from Ozzy until rhoads unfortunate accident.

Crowley was a real person in the UK. feel free to look him up if you want. I know enough not to. Tragedy of Randy Rhodes was where Ozzy stopped for the night at his rich friend's home who owned his own plane. Ozzy and his friend were drunk and stoned up all night. Randy was sleeping in the tour bus. Ozzu'a friend decided it would be fun to take the plane up. And then it would be fun to buzz the bus. Up until on one pass they were too low and crashed into the bus!! Somehow they did not die in that plane but Randy who was completey innocent in the mattern was killed!! Such a talent and life ahead snuffed out before his time. The world is poorer for that loss.
