Wasn’t far from me, and I was in the same year in school age. That it stuck with me. The change was palpable after that. Also not only the shock of the boys but the location of the bomb, being that even places close to Liverpool which many deemed more Irish sympathetic weren’t safe. The issue always seemed to be attacks in London. But this changed the feeling, anywhere was fair game in their eyes. Scary times but which also just seemed normal growing up.

Such a great song! Dolores O'Riordan is the singer and she also wrote the song. It is a protest song, written as a reaction to an IRA bombing that had killed two young children, and the pain and anger really come through in the vocals and in the instrumental arrangement, especially the drums. Dolores asked the drummer to play as loud as he could and it really accentuates the anger she was trying to communicate.

Actually, it's an awful.song by someone who doesn't have any knowledge about the subject. I'm from the estate in belfast where this was filmed. She is seen as both naive and a bit of a traitor. A 'West Brit' is how she is often spoken of. She hadn't she'd one tear for Irish children who had been murdered. Then her 'it's in your head'refrain added insult to injury by implying that it was only the Urish in the North who were engaged in conflict. Awful revisionist nonsense and a shit song. Badly written, poorly played and produced by an amateur.

One of the coolest things about it. All the proceeds they made for the sale of the song was donated to O'Riordan's kids.

I have always loved the cranberries. The music world lost a true treasure when dolores passed. She had a vocal style like you would typically only hear in folk style music.

Being Irish, this song makes me cry EVERY time. I miss Dolores's voice so much. Such a beautiful soul!

"There were a lot of bombs going off in London and I remember this one time a child was killed when a bomb was put in a rubbish bin - that's why there's that line in the song, 'A child is slowly taken'. [ ... ] We were on a tour bus and I was near the location where it happened, so it really struck me hard - I was quite young, but I remember being devastated about the innocent children being pulled into that kind of thing. This song is about the still unresolved conflict between Protestants and catholics in Northern Ireland. In 1994, when this song was recorded, the Good Friday Agreement that was about to bring some relief, was still in the future. The song is about a bombing where two innocent kids were killed. The singer is iconic Dolores O‘Riordan, she had a psychological problem and died in Jan 2018 after extensive alcohol consumption by drowning in the bathtub (like Whitney) at the age of 46. Her yodel-like singing technique is allegedly typical for Irish folk songs and definitely influenced by her heritage and culture. A great voice of the nineties! RIP Dolores!

The song was inspired by a two year old and a twelve year old murdered by the IRA in the Warrington Bombings in England. Two bombs put in litter bins timed to explode ninety seconds apart, so people fleeing from the first, ran into the second.

This is one of those songs that was SO POPULAR, it played on damn near every radio station, on loop on every location with music, people got tired of it, and started hating on it. But it's certainly not a bad song.

I live in Northern Ireland. A lot of the images are in Belfast where I live. The alternative scene in Belfast still is a mixed background. It was normal growing up with army at the end of the street and searching you. 2 people I was in school with lost there life because of the conflict

This is my favorite song of The Cranberries. The lyrics, Delores' vocals, the video, all are extremely powerful.

I remember when this song came out and was a huge fan from the beginning. It wasn't until just a few months ago watching reaction videos that I found out what it was about and it made me just rethink how I take in music. Even old fogies can learn something new :)

I know people like to meme on this song for whatever reason for the memes and such, especially the chorus, but the way she sings and the way the band performs has always been so good!! This song is related to the troubles in Northern Ireland between The British and The Irish, a conflict that is centuries old but this is about the last 100 years. The spark for this song was the killing of two children in Warrington, England in 1993 killing Tim Parry (12) and Jonathan Ball (3) by the IRA (Irish Republican Army) exploding a bomb in the town centre. This song didn't go down well here in England because it was perceived as being supportive of the terrorists which was really a collective misunderstanding driven by emotion in the shadow of the event, as it was more about mans inhumanity to man as a whole and the devastating effects on those left behind to clean up the mess. The song could be applied to events that happened in The former Yugoslavia and Kosovo a few years later. The reasons I mention Yugoslavia is because the British/Irish conflict had been sporadic and periodic over that century, but when Yugoslavia split up which was around the same time as this song, the same type of urban/guerilla conflict that had been happening in the UK now and again, was happening all day every day across the entirety of Yugoslavia non-stop for a few years.

Sure it was well liked, but the anti irish media in this country scorned it in general. I was doing my paper round at the time as a teenager, and if that song ever came on the radio whilst sorting my papers out in the shop, the owner would be like 'get that sh*t of' and that was a sentiment shared by many at that time. Over time though people have come round to it.

The media in this country certainly scorned it, and a lot of the clapping seals went along with it like they always do. Of course there was a large amount of people that appreciated it too but there was a palpable anti-Irish sentiment in England in the immediate aftermath that fuelled the dislike for it. especially being in Manchester and the incident being only 14 miles away and that sentiment pretty much stretched across the entirety of the North West from Manc to Liverpool with many of the Irish in my family and circles being insulted and blamed for it. Congratulations on your friends circles being homogenous without any diversity of opinions sounds painful, I am glad that I got to experience viewpoints from all sides.

The word "zombie" in the song refers to those involved on both the British and Northern Irish side who blindly followed orders without thinking for themselves. . Delores' voice is beautiful, the music is hard and the lyrics are hard hitting. the video shows actual soldiers on patrol on the streets there and the children are playing on the real streets. Kills me to hear it, my eldest son is only two years older than Jonathan Ball would have been, but it's a song that makes you stop and remember how fragile peace is and how easily it can be lost and everything that goes with it. R.I.P. I was blessed to see her in concert

This song was great at demonstrating the lower, heavier side if Dolores' vocal spectrum. For something more in the middle, check out "Linger". And to hear her hit the lighter, more ethereal end, "Dreams" is perfect. It's a far more uplifting, effortless, soaring vocal run at the end, punctuated by recordings of her own vocals to provide backgrounds. She was incredible.

With what going on in the world today, it's not a stretch to say this song is still sadly relevant. The power, anger and sorrow always brings me to tears.

I've never understood why Dolores got slated as a singer. She had an incredible voice . And the vocal performance in this song is drenched in pain and angst. Dolores O'Riordan, From Limerick Ireland. raised in the traveler community, Her singing style was informed by the Irish tradition of 'Keening' which is a style of singing usually found at wakes and funerals, but less common nowadays. A beautiful, fragile talent that was taken from us too early.

There’s a rumor that in the studio at some point the producer asked the drummer if he could hit the drums a little harder. He just said, I can do that. And the rest is history.

They’re one of the biggest things in modern Irish punk and this is a song about the IRA and specifically ‘The Troubles’ time in Britain and Ireland. I’m sure everybody’s already pointing you to to all their hits, so my recommendation is actually Bad Wolves’ cover of this one. Dolores was meant to vocally collaborate on it. As kind of passing the torch two decades later. She unfortunately passed the morning she was scheduled to record, or they found out about it that day.

Bad Wolves were of course shocked,but after some time they contacted the rest of The Cranberries for approval in still releasing the cover. My cousin and her boyfriend died in a tragic accident in India back in 1996, she was 26, he was 23.This is the first song I heard after hearing the tragic news that night.To be honest I have not listened to this song since cos it always brings back memories. Today is the 1st time I have listened to the song all the way through, I used to hate this song but now I like it.

I've said this on other channels but I grew up in Belfast at this time. I was born in 1980, lived on the Ardoyne Road in North Belfast. I recognise the murals and due to the terrorist groups (on both sides) we did have things like the army patrolling the streets regularly. Only a few streets down from where I lived there was a 30 foot 'peace wall' between the back gardens of two streets to keep the two communities apart and prevent trouble (it' still seems to be there according to Google Maps that I've just searched). And yes, we played, we fought with each other and we even learnt to climb up onto the roofs of derelict houses at fairly young ages and we did jump about on them as shown in this video. If I lived another 100 years I don't think that I could ever find another song and video that reminds me so much of my childhood.

Dolores O Riordan was her name she was a unique beautiful talented singer she is from Ireland unfortunately she past away at the age of 46 due to accidental alcohol intoxication drowning she was such a talent.and truly missed R.I.P.
