That Pedal Show - Matt Schofield New Pedalboard Build

Музыка

Welcome to That Pedal Show! Please subscribe to our channel and visit our store www.thatpedalshowstore.com
In this video, Dan has a couple of hours to put a new pedalboard together for our good friend Matt Schofield… then deliver it to soundcheck ready for the gig that same night.
The aim of this build was to keep Matt's pedals the same as on his previous board, but improve on the signal clarity and switching convenience. Same pedals, but a completely different experience? Let's see…
The slightly longer story…
Matt joined us on That Pedal Show for an episode that aired 13 July 2017 and you can watch that here: • That Pedal Show Specia...
During the filming for that video, he floored us with his incredible tone and playing: big volume, amazing dynamics and astonishing feel. However… Matt’s board had definitely seen better days, suffering some fairly major buzz and hum issues and no doubt robbing him of some tone and signal. What’s a pedalboard builder to do?
Dan offered to improve things for Matt, so we convened at HQ one Saturday lunchtime and started work on a new board. By 4:30pm we were at the venue in Bristol ready to go.
Matt had decided that a full-on G2-based rig was more than he needed, given that he only uses a small number of pedals and rarely uses combinations of anything other than one delay and one overdrive. However, given the tone/signal loss he was currently experiencing, there was clearly a need for some independent true-bypass loop switching. QuarterMaster QMX was obviously the way to go.
You can see the whole build process in the video, and we’re pleased to say that since Matt returned back to the US, Dan has had a couple of lovely messages saying how much things have improved; more fidelity, dynamics and - yes - more tone making it to the amp!

This is the video I've been waiting for! While I truly enjoy the entertainment value of the more elaborate boards, Matt's needs are more in line with my own. That Pedal Show is the one guitar/music channel that has never to let me down. There is always something beneficial to take away and humor to brighten my day. Thank you guys!

THAT was extremely informative. I really liked the detail on how Dan goes about setting up the board, what his GigRig devices do and how to wire them, and the little bit at the end where Matt talks about the increased gain and positive change of tone by getting all his pedals isolated in the Quartermaster loop (getting them all true bypassed) was especially enlightening. Thanks Dan and Mick for sharing this video (and behind the scenes look at GigRig).

+Steven Dobias this is what I love about pedals. You can get so specific about how best to apply it for someone's rig. Matt's tone is all about the dynamics in his playing, and his pedals reflect this. My entire concept is getting things out the way when they're not needed, and for a player with such immense dynamics, it makes a big difference :)

i had a couple epiphanies while watching this video. The first was the insight between what the differences are between a musician and an artist. And seeing Matt's method for dialing in an amp or pedal explains so much about how to get the best sound for the music you want to convey. In summary, all gear has sweet spots and this where they sound best. Matt is a great artist and guitar player. And TPS is a fantastic channel :)

Thanks for this! As much as I "want" a g2, as it is always a silent star in the videos...I don't really have a need for one despite using quite a few pedals; but, only one midi (a tc delay, that I'm probably too thick to program anyway) , and I'm fairly set in my ways with drive order, etc. The quartermasters are very impressive! I imagine they will tame some issues with some very old modulation effects too, because the are isolated in their own loop? They have a very small footprint as well. This is the type of content that really makes y'all the best! Much appreciated!

It's funny. I saw this just before trying out my board with a new true-bypass switcher with Lava Tightrope cables, and I experienced the same exact thing as described @ 24:00. It really took me by surprise because before the loop/switcher pedal, I used all true bypass pedals and short cable runs, and they didn't sound any duller or quieter than when I used to run a buffer in front of them. Not only did I have to turn my gain pedals' volume down, I had to turn the treble down on my amp. And the difference was not subtle.

Effective and simple. Love it! Still, that 2-story pedal case with the hinge off top floor still comes to me in my dreams. ;)

Brilliant as always chaps! Making me totally rethink my pedal board now... also, if ever you want to do a video on passive vs active pickups I've got a lovely late 70s Roger Giffin Strat you could borrow with... wait for it...very early single coil EMGs which I'd love to hear Mick play and give his opinion on (even if he hated them😀)

+Bill Sherrington Hahahaha!!! I hate them in theory Bill... but whenever I play them I always kinda like them for that clean thing. It's a sound for sure, and Mr Gilmour doesn't seem to mind. :0) Roger Giffin. Cool!

This video turned me on to the QuarterMaster switchers. The G2 is way more than I would ever need, but with 5 sizes, there's a QuarterMaster for everyone! In fact, I know of at least a few "pro" KZread pedal demoers that NEED the QMX-2 as they do vs. videos with non-true-bypass pedals chained together in series. You can't get an accurate representation of the differences when both pedals are being affected by each other's buffer! Anyway, now to do some intense thinking about which QuarterMaster to get!
