    From what I’ve read they almost certainly had venison, as you mentioned, and ground nuts (a potato-like native root vegetable). Seafood definitely makes sense! And maybe some passenger pigeons as they would have been easy picking at the time. I’m trying to think what other native fruits can be foraged in late fall: persimmon, Pawpaw, hawthorn, dried currants and gooseberries (they sometimes dry right on the bush). They could have had a good chance of eating “highbush cranberry” which is actually a Viburnum, if they had natives showing them how to forage. The fruits are ripe in mid October, just in time for a fall feast, and they grow pretty far north along the coast.
