In New York inmates get turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, veggies and I believe cake on thanksgiving. It’s usually one of the more popular meals. They are fed this for lunch..for dinner that day they get brown bag lunch sandwiches, apple, cookies and a drink.

you know why its boneless turkey? because they're scared that they might keep the bones and turn it into a shank lol

Been in there a bunch of times unfortunately (mostly drunken casino related episodes)didn't have that food

Does the jail/prison program seem f's up? Here's how I think it should work, and maybe you agree? You go to prison and immediately you are put to work on a job that gives back to society. No free ride. No loafing around. Assuming your are work-capable and your don't work up to requirement your credits get reduced and that means your privileges and food do too. Also, your prison term gets extended if your work credits fall short of target (adjusted for assessed ability). You do not get released unless you have or have developed a skill that enables you to be self-supporting. On release, to encourage employers to give you a chance, there are incentives for the employers to do that and there are controls to ensure the employers are fair. Repeat offenders get no second chances.

Absolutely the best way to make food. Even though it's in prison it's by far the healthiest way

Michael Cline no, incarcerating alot people for non-violent crimes is a waste of taxpayer's money!

I'm usually always in prison from time to time, getting sentences btn 2-3 years. My life is really tough so to me prison is like home, I love it. I don't commit hideous crimes I just get into fights with officers just when my sentence is finishing and I get an extended 3 year sentence for assault.

@@debbiemerriman3969 You are so full of it, jail is not a resort where they get whatever they want. Working for 20 cents an hour to pay $24 for a thin as hell sweater. Most prison food is under $2 per person and consists of garbage tasting and looking food. Prison sucks, that is why most people don't want to go back after getting out.

Well at Brunswick county jail in North Carolina you just get a bag lunch basically and they give the pod a loaf of bread. Then everyone fights over the bread. I went to jail twice the longest was 15 days and that time was during thanksgiving lol never ever want to go back I tell you that

Studies show that when prisoners are given good tasting and plenty of food that not only does their moral goes up it also leads to much less prison violence and more cooperation with the guards and administrators. But still the system balks at it saying that they are only there to be punished and nothing more. What happened to trying to reform them? Oh, wait, I forgot about profiting from them. My bad :( I knew a former head cook/chef of our local state prison here in Shelton Washington. He told me several times that it made sense to cook them a decent meal. That it didn't have to be gourmet but a good meal that gave them something to look forward to. He also said that if he didn't like the taste it wouldn't get served. No, it didn't stop the violence or make the inmates happy to be there but it showed them they weren't just thought of as animals which would cause anyone constant anger. And he thought that was important, at least to him. God rest his soul. [Fish On!!! Ralph].

Child molesters and rapists can't be reformed, and they should he punished. When people kill someone's child. They should be punished and shouldn't have the luxury of good food. Mass murderers, serial killers, I could go on and on. So yeah some of the people in there can be reformed but alot of them don't deserve the chance to be reformed they should be PUNISHED.

Yeah..especially when you murder say a mother and her child in a home invasion and they put you in that "Shitty situation" You should have all the nice things that mother and her dead child will never have again. Secondly they are PRODUCTS of the society - we are responsible for what happens to each other. Society has failed them and made them the people they are and others got the raw deal. You lack compassion period. Life could have been different for you too and what didn't pass you didn't miss you. You have the REST of your life to live and you can't be too sure if you won't end up in there too.

I have a concern! Everyone else in the state of washington has to have a food handlers card in order to work around food. Why do the inmates of the work center program in Vancouver Washington (who prepares food for all inamtes) not have to obtain a food handlers card also????

Maria Ortiz nobody is a "good" citizen. And most people in JAIL, are there for small crimes like speeding, getting in fights, stealing, or even being homeless, and or feeding the homeless. Jail and prison are two different things. Jail is for minor crimes, while prison is for big crimes like murder. And yes you can go to jail for being homeless and feeding homeless people.

I suggest you realise just how poor of a living the prisoners are having, food is the only luxury they have, once that's removed riots take place, which is more expensive than a decent meal for the taxpayer.

It's a crime they cut into the turkeys as soon as they came out the oven. Just look at all the their juice flowing out.

None of that should be served for Thanksgiving. Should be bread/water only.

Where's this prison ? I cooked when I was locked up and Thanksgiving and Christmas was the only days we got a decent tray. Rest of the year it was slop day in day out. So all yall saying they eat too good no they don't. Literally 2 times a year they get an ok tray

Psychology 101 if you keep the prisoners happy with a taste filling meal and maybe a tv or a tablet too watch movies , to keep them occupied, and some time out in the yard you might get a prisoner that may not be a problem inside ... I'm sure a lot will disagree with this but it's true

Lifers should be separated from general population and treated like garbage for the rest of their miserable days. Let them take their anger off on each other, survival of the fittest. Feed them the left overs from general population, if there’s any.

@Sight Locs and the lifers who commit the most heinous crimes should be kept in solitary confinement for their entire sentence. But instead of 23 hours of lockdown per day, it should be 24 hours per day. Once they get to their cells, they should be given a loaf of bread. Hopefully they can ration it themselves because in my scenario, each lifer in permanent lockdown only gets one loaf of bread per month. Bonus points if they’re given expired bread that will get moldy soon. Better than throwing it away
