I mean they aren’t getting any younger, these dudes are in their 70s and I’ve been front row many times over the past couple yearsand I never noticed anything. I’ve been to back to back shows and sounded a little different talking through songs, etc. so I think I would’ve noticed it.

    For accuracy, Fil didn’t use audio from the actual recording, he layered two live recordings from two separate shows months apart and showed they lined up identically, something humans can’t do, there’d always be some kind of variation, tempo, pitch, breath. Both tracks from two different ‘live’ performances matched up according to digital analysis.

In fact they had a sound board mix up 3/4 of the way thru “Take it Easy” where the banjo kicked in twice as loud as the rest of the band. The best thing about Ann singing is that she can even come close to what she used to at her age. Is it perfect? Nope. Does she still have that insane range she used to have? No. She’s in her 70’s. Clearly someone of that age can’t and would almost never sound like they did in their 20’s. An 80% Ann Wilson will sing circles around 99% of the rest of the industry.

    Exactly! I've never been to a live show and seen the singer do it perfectly. But, that's the exciting part - to see a real person up there! Ann & Nancy have been doing amazing live shows (together or as solo acts) for decades and deserve the highest level of respect for consistently giving us great shows!

  • @chrismcgovern6514

    @chrismcgovern6514

    These legacy acts have to just put it out there and let the fans decide . The fundamental change is today's bands record things without regard for if they can be performed live. I love A7X, but every song has strings, horns, keys, multi tracked guitars. All that stuff is on playback. Then they figure a track that syncs up videos and counts off the start of each song just makes the show flow easier. Compare that to Mastodon, who tour with a keyboardist so that stuff can also be played live. When these bands start to lose it, it's inevitable that more and more stuff will be on playback until the whole show is like listening to the record.

I've seen Fil's analysis, and I'm a musician myself, and I listened intently and watched while Fil did his analysis, and there's no doubt that Don is lip synching because it is not humanly possible to reproduce the same vocal line perfectly night after night or even in a recording studio where you have to do more than one pass vocally. They got away with it and others followed suit and it’s been ridiculous ever since. People are paying huge money to see acts that aren’t a quarter of how good they used to be. They’re getting away with it because the current music business is dead for years as far as new rock bands coming out. @SergeitheMet Good for you -- the Dave Ramsey mentality is great for those who can, need to & have the discipline to do it, even if it means sacrificing immediate pleasures for longer-term wealth/wealth-building. 👏🏻 That said, it STILL doesn't excuse the literal Hyperinflation of ticket prices over the past 10-15 years. Save the Eagles, I've seen all the acts you mentioned, plus many more over the years (I'm in my 50s, and started attending rock concerts when I was 15). I wouldn't pay $0.01 to see the Eagles (or Henley solo) now, knowing that they're FRAUDSTERS. And that's the expanded crux of Eddie Trunk's point: As if the prohibitly high ducat prices weren't bad enough, some of these "legacy" acts aren't even ACTUALLY singing (and some not really playing their respective instruments). It needs to be called out every single time -- not tacitly supported -- because it's embarrassing, depressing, and PATHETIC. And it disincentives the Real ones to continue to be real in concert.

    Do the other members of the band need the money that bad? Why would they participate in this sham? Also i saw the Zombies in concert last November they were great, sometimes they sounded like 70 year olds singing together but it was real and quite moving for what it was. They really earn the money.

    I'm sure the rest of the band needs the money since Don & Glenn have always taken the lions share. With Glenn dead, it's all Henley's & even that isn't enough for him, so he rips off the fans. What a guy.

    Ray, you make a great point about older singers getting a new singer. Brian Wilson did that in his touring band. In fact, it took like three guys to sing his parts, including Jeff Foskett.

    That was a fantastic rant Eddie. I couldn’t agree more. Sad state of affairs.
