Bailey actually knows Thane (if you did Thane’s loyalty mission), but he doesn’t know Kirrahe

Thane lives like 5 more minutes if you go this way lol. He dies shortly after, since his name is still on the Normandy memorial plaque afterwards. At least let him die a hero.

Everyone talks about plot armour but can we talk about plot accuracy? Shepard's able to hit everything under the sun with pinpoint accuracy including a teleporting Banshee, but in a cutscene can't hit a sword-wielding, topknot wearing dipshit in the most obvious bad guy armour ever

It could have been more interesting and really tragic if it was like a brainwashed Jack instead of just turning her into a generic Phantom, now she becomes a primary antagonist, blaming Shepherd for what's happened to her, and that you should never have trusted Cerberus. By the end fight, after you beat her she just wants to die and be free of the indoctrination and then you have the option to end it for her or she does it herself. Tie it in with maybe if you sided with Cerberus too much in the second game, or if there was a point in the Grissom academy where you had the option of choosing the students, Jack or abandon all of them, each one having disastrous consequences for you in the future and just erase Leng from the game entirely because he is incredibly generic, one note and has no ties to Sheperd or anyone in your team he's just some random guy who shows up like three seperate times and is a nuisance to you, winning by pure cowardly bullshit tactics two of the three times. I think Jack could have been a much much better option to go with personally. But that just my opinion 🤷

That way it would actually mean something emotionally for not just Sheppard but the other crewmembers as well. Instead we get a villian who relies on having read the prior books one of with really sucked.

@@Mysticgamer Actually yeah that'd be a cool idea for a rival to Shepard, it could be a decent plot twist although they'd have to answer some questions such as how they got their DNA in the first place but if done right it could be shocking, they'd have to do the citidel seige much earlier in the game, and maybe have someone else on the council besides just udina being killed in the process. At the end of the mission the individual leading the seige reveals themselves to be the one you left behind and from near the beginning of the game to the very end, (yes past the Cerberus base mission) they act as the rival and personal obstacle that Shepard has to confront, maybe they still feel some guilt and see this as a chance to atone for the past and save them? As for the crew, they'd have major reservations about potentially having to put down the clone especially Kaiden/ Ashley still feeling an immense amount of guilt over how they survived me1 and how unfair it was to condem this clone to die and there's a chance they can save them. Maybe even pushing them to go off on their own to try to bring the clone back to the team, causing a lot of conflict and emotional moments that could add to the tension more. It'd add a big emotional payoff and even if it doesn't end happily it could give us some form of closure maybe even have the clone get confused and angry, screaming at Shephard "I'm not them! You left them to die! I'm not your past I'm your future!" Heck if you chose to romance the virmire victim that could add to even more of an emotional punch! Honestly either indoctrinated Jack or brainwashed clone of your dead team mate are much much better ideas than just having the cowardly kai Leng who wins via cutscene or cheap tactics while we let him win.

Exactly, I was always pissed of how shitty Kai Leng is, both in mechanics of gameplay and cutscenes. When fighting him in cutscenes, entire squad turns into bumbling idiots, with Kai Leng beating them handily, which is all the more irritating if the actual fight you have with him goes easily(in my case, it does). Properly leveled up and armed Garrus cuts down everything(even on Insanity) and my Shepard has Lash, which actually works on Leng, and so story-fitting outcome of the battle on Thessia would be Leng flooding you with bodyguard Phamtoms while he steals the VI, all while getting heavily wounded by the squad, because any realistic 3 on 1 battle would end in Leng thrown around a few times and riddled with bullets while recovering, developers attempts of making him out as on par with Shepard’s squad are simply laughable, and him winning the Thessia duel with a fucking gunship is simply most stupid example of doing a boss fight in gaming ever

Let's be honest, if it wasn't for plot-armor, Kai Leng would have died about a minute after meeting Shep and his mates. He was sadly the worst-written antagonist and character in any Mass Effect game i'd say, and that includes Andromeda. But i still always look forward to that renegade interupt at TIMs base.

@@Red_Beard2798 The only reason Kai got the Prothean beacon was because he had an invulnerable gunship as support, not because of anything he did. Cerberus could have sent Bob From Accounting to Thessia and gotten the same results.

But Thane is terminally ill in ME2, so it's obvious he is going to die at some point. Letting him fight against Leng at least gives him an hero death and let you keep Kirrahe as Warr Asset.

I like how Liara is the only one that looked back at him

Um Thane still dies so what's the point? At least let him die honorably, at his own terms.

Thane comes to terms with his imminent death, never said it was his terms. And in this scene he's not outright killed by Kai Lang so that's not a warriors death. Only time thane dies a warriors death is if he dies during ME2 final mission. Anytime after that he's destined to suffer an extended agonising death. In fact, I'd say this scene makes his suffering longer because if he's shot here it speeds up his death.

Thanks for featuring this. It’s nice to see an alternative scene, since I will never, *ever* do this in-game! In my games, Kirrahe will always end up as a War Asset and Thane will always humiliate Kai Leng and go out like a boss!

@@juleswoodbury58 ehm no. You get one fleet if salarian councilor survives assassination attempt, so to get it we need either Thane or Kirrahe to stop Kai Leng. You get another salarian fleet only if you fake genophage cure. Kirrahe has nothing to do with it. He can be dead since ME1 and you still will be able to secure salarian support. You can even get 35 war assets from STG instead of his 20 if he dies in ME1.(but council should die in ME1 as well)

Am I the only one that felt some pain when they referred to kirrahe as "another salarian"? Nvm, scrolling down reveals that I am not alone in this

Well he survives then later rejoins the Normandy near the end. They find the cure for Keprals syndrome in this one. I'm not too sure but i think there might be another version which stops him from dying here but still has him dying of his disease. Then his ghost (memory) pops up after the Citadel party when the crew is now boarding the Normandy. Its even more depressing this way I think.

Can I just say as a fan of this series Kai lang was probably the most underdeveloped character in the entire trilogy, he wasn't threatening as a villain, and he didnt have enough screentime to develop his personality, I think if miranda had stuck with Cerberus past the second game and acted as the assassin she would've been more of a threat and it would've been more personal and maybe she turns on the illusive man on horizon when she finds out her dad has her sister... or like the citadel stand off that could end with you potentially having to kill her... it would've been much better. But kia lang would be the stand in if miranda died in me2

EDIT: This scene will trigger once Kirrahe is rescued in ME1 and Thane is not recruited in ME2. (Thanks to The Meme Slayer for pointing it out) Additionally this scene will trigger regardless of whether Thane was recruited in ME2 or not, once a now deleted "ThaneMOD" by Giftfish is installed. In this mod Thane not only survives Cerberus coup on the Citadel, but he is also cured from Kepral's Syndrome and he appears in the Citadel DLC and in the final epilogue. This mod (just like all Giftfish's mods) is not avaible to the general public anymore. Not really a mod and it's not "impossible" to get. If you didn't visit Thane at memorial Hospital or if he didn't survive the suicide mission Kirraeh shows up (only if you saved him in Virmire). If those two didn't show up then the councilor dies and you lose the possibility of regaining the Salarian fleet with the Genophage cured. Edit: Okay i read your message again, maybe the main thing about the mod is that Thane appears in the final epilogue, but that's probably just a reuse of the original Citadel DLC Thane's ghost that only appears if you romanced him in 2 and stayed loyal to the end.

I totally get that he doesn't want someone claiming his ideas as their own but this won't stop someone from doing what he claims he's trying to stop, it has to be remade from scratch anyway, it just makes it so the standard user can't use his mods, so now only the 'horrible stealing copyer' will release any of his mods.

My theory: Kai Leng was some developer's crappy OC self-insert. There is no reason half the things he pulls should work. Kai Leng kills the salarian councilor? Ok cool, Shepherd and his crew could have probably had their own recording so that they can prove their innocence, but for some reason, that's a big no no because the ultra-badass OC (don't steal) needs to look undefeatable and crafty although I'm pretty sure it would only take a single stasis or a few other biotic / tech powers to instantly ruin his plans.

The lack of personal recording systems is a major plot hole in the Trilogy. I agree with your assessment of Kai Leng; most of his success is only because cutscenes were written to have him win. The fight on Thessia annoyed me because I'd taken out helicopters like that before in game, yet suddenly I have to cower in front of it while Kai Leng regenerates his shields?

@@AccidentalNinja The funniest part about that specific thing is if you tell Eve and Wrex about the Dalatrass sabotage, you bring up a literal recording of the Dalatrass telling you to sabotage the cure. There's no reason Shepard couldn't just do the same to Kaiden or Ashley, I guess they just wanted to make the moment where you confront Udina more intense lol.

Didn't they say Kai Leng has a VI that erases footage of him wherever he goes. I mean, that's pretty OP but still, they did offer an explanation.

This made me sad the first time I played through with thane dead by accident in my ME2 play through, and I had no idea it was coming, I was in tears

I really wish he told Shepard to hold the line.. just one last time

Here is a question: What if Kirrahe died in ME 1 AND you didn't recruit Thane in ME2 nor ever talk to him in ME3?

The salarian councillor is murdered by Kai Leng, and Udina presents doctored footage of Shepard killing them to turn the Virmire Survivor and the remaining Councillors against you.

It's a shame that both Thane and Kirrahe couldn't be there at once saving Valern.

Wish Kirrahe lasted a bit longer. Not as long as Thane ofc but she should have had a short fight with Kai Leng. Maybe one or two exchanged blows or shots before getting killed.

At least with his final breath he held the line.

Dang...kinda sucks the two of them couldn't have worked in tandem and repelled Kai Leng with no casualties. I mean, between Kirrahe AND Thane, they should've been able to scare him off.

If both are dead then Kai Leng kills the councilor and then fakes footage of Shepard killing the councilor which Leng sends to Udina and uses it to get Kaiden/Ashley to turn on Shepard near the end of the mission. If you have a paragon or renegade speech check you can avoid killing whoever you chose to save on virmire

Honestly this hurt more than Thane. Thane was already in the final stages of Keplar's syndrome so it's more of an honor to have him die fighting that bitch Kai Leng. Kirrahe just dying there with THAT choice of words, it hurts right away.

@@an-cx1ho Which is why I said he'd never accept it. Also not all spectres have to get "dirty" to do their jobs. They complete missions however they see fit. Your Shepard could do things full paragon for instance. Yet he's picked as spectre. Kaidan doesn't get "dirty" yet he's skilled enough to be a spectre. Being a spectre isn't just about doing things the hard way. A person is chosen as a spectre because not only is said person exceptional in many ways, but also the council trusts that whatever method that person uses to get the job done will end with the job getting done.

@@lunarm4 I always felt Kaiden/Ashley made it to Spectre only because Udina wanted a supporter when his treachery was out in the open. Also it was easy to convince the council due to the circumstances. Otherwise why a guy like Garrus did not get Spectre status while these guys so easily made it.

To me, it makes far more sense for Thane to die and not Kirrahe. Plus who would want to go without recruiting Thane? But think about it. Thane is dying anyway, if anything his dying in this scene makes his death far more heroic. Thane's entire story is about trying to make up for all the harm he's done in his years as an assassin. Dying by saving a life fulfills that goal. So you still have Thane, but his death doesn't have meaning and you don't get to spend his last days with your Drell bro/sweetie, in a way, it's almost a bad ending from Thane's point of view. If you doubt this is Thane's bad ending, listen to the song "cat's in the cradle" by Harry Chapin, which was the inspiration for Thane's character and loyalty mission. In the end, the man in the song dies old and alone while his son raises a family and is too busy to spend time with his father in his dying years. If Thane dies alone and mourned only by his son, without the man/woman who gave his last years meaning, he's followed the same path and his life meant nothing.

I definitely prefer Thane being here. It’s sort of like Thane’s personal redemption. He spent his entire life killing, something he reflects on often, and he goes out giving his life to save another. It’s something akin to using Jack in the suicide mission to shield everyone from the seeker swarms. Always used her biotics for her own means of killing, and in that instance was probably the first time she used her powers to protect people. Just my two cents.

Which is her favorite moment to bring up to her students at Grissom Academy. She learned what it was like to be a team player and having Thane die here adds substance to his life. He lost his wife to killers, he was a killer, he acknowledged that he should have been a better husband and father, let him have his final moments protecting a life

This is like getting out of a car before a bad crash but still dying of cancer that night. Like, did you REALLY survive anything?

Kai Leng is the worst assassin. Should've just shoot councillor immediately. Instead their coup is exposed, target lives and Shepard is able to save rest of the council.

Honestly I do prefer having Thane there instead, it's great watching him kick bitch Leng's ass for a good minute, now if he wasn't dealing with kepral's syndrome so badly at that point I think he would've killed Leng in maybe five moves

You get this if either Thane dies in ME 2 or if you ignore him in the hospital. But he still dies regardless. Title of the video is pretty misleading lol

Sometimes your crew says he's dead even if he's not. Come back to the Normandy and look for him in the hangar

I never understood why, if you saved kirrahe, and had thane's loyalty, they didnt tag team kai leng and whup his ass. Like idk kirrahe overloads his barrier while thane karate chops his ass down those stairs

Thane doesn't survive, though. This just means he doesn't get the honorable death he deserves

If Thane doesn't show up there he still dies afterwards :/

I find it funny how they always pronounce people dead and not start resusciation efforts. That game plays twohundred years in the future and they can't do anything but say "sorry, pal, you are already dead?" while we occasionally manage to save polytraumatic patients right now?

Why couldn't the both of tag team there?

What do you mean? This can happen in the game even without mods. You just need Kirrahe Alive, either than not recruited or died, or didn't speak to him on the Citadel. This scene will play.

Even though I thought his view on Wrex in mass 1 was..... Rude kirrahe is still a decent fellow I do enjoy his Ill call it friendship and if we are honest alot of the STG chaps know which way the wind blows oddly enough so you know murder and mayhem galore

The scenario is real. As for Thane surviving, it's a pyrrhic victory. Leng doesn't get to stab him, but with his disease he will die anyway, and you have to deliberately not reconnect with him before this. It'll be like he died in 2 by that point.

@@paragade1318 no problem 👍! At least the renegade interrupt for KL let's you avenge Thane and anyone else he kills by the end, and Citadel DLC is a great sendoff for everyone including Thane.

It's pretty obvious this Is modded that hairstyle Isn't a selectable option so this must be PC am I wrong
