Thailand News | British man recounts a shocking encounter with racist Russians in Phuket

A British man recounted an unsettling encounter with some racist Russians in Phuket, southern Thailand. His unfortunate experience has led him to declare that he will never return to the island.
The British man, who shared his story on the Reddit platform under the username Wanderlust3r0, started his narrative by stating he is a black British man with a Thai wife.
“I have been coming to Thailand for the last ten years and this is the first time I have experienced racism, not from my Thais but from Russians in Phuket.”

As a frequent visitor to Phuket I couldn't help but notice the demeaning disrespectful attitude some Russians have toward Thai people. Thai people are very accommodating but if you push them too far expect a severe backlash. Thais stick together as they should.

I am also in no rush to return to Phuket, since the Russian invasion of Phuket.

As a Thai, I am sad to hear this kind of racism happening in Thailand. We don't want this behavior in our land!

I feel it is okay for him to boycott Phuket. Nothing else will get the officials attention. When you’re on vacation you have the right to expect it to be peaceful without discrimination.

Lets face reality. Who thought it was a good idea to let the russians just basically take over Phuket. The ratio of lout to decent visitor in another country is clearly out of wack.

Its fair, its his choice not to return to Phuket he has bad memories why return. Russians are everywhere in Thailand increasing since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I'll never visit Phuket again either...it's a paradise lost and has become like a little Russia - I've witnessed on numerous occasions Russians being arrogant and rude. I feel sorry for the local Thai people in Phuket as the Russians will create problems and do business there illegally, which we have already begun to see.

Seems his intention was to pick a fight. Why does he think they will play his music instead of that for regular patrons. There so many bars on every corner he should have walked away instead of becoming a cry baby. If u don't come back no body will notice and life will go on as usual.

I understand he had a bad experience at this bar/restaurant but Phuket is a wonderful place and the people are so friendly and welcoming. Just avoid this one place if you had a bad experience.

There are plenty of non-Russian owned businesses in Phuket. Patronize those instead.

The last sentence of the opening paragraph of the reddit post is significant. "There have been a number of (instances of discrimination) ... were Russian owned businesses". The first question that comes to mind is why is this man going to these "Russian owned businesses" so frequently? I suspect the average Thai or Western tourist rarely if ever visits a "Russian owned business" ever in their stay in Phuket. It is important to keep in mind the poster's country in actively involved in military operations against the Russian Federation. It is to the viewer's judgement if there is any truth whatsoever in this post or if it is just another example of Anti-Russian propaganda so common in the West now.
