Thai DESSERT Street Food Tour in Old Town BANGKOK 🇹🇭 🥭 MICHELIN MANGO STICKY RICE + more
Get a t-shirt here: my-store-c4478c.creator-sprin...
Edit: For some reason I keep saying that bua loi is made with tapioca flour when in fact it’s rice flour!
Today I headed to the old town of Bangkok (Rattanakosin) to sample three tourist-friendly (but still authentic) Thai street food dessert dishes in one area. I want to help you find authentic Thai street food wherever you are staying in Bangkok by giving you these little DIY food tours in every area of the city.
I had glazed taro at Sister Ni's (เผือกหิมะเจ๊นี), Mango Sticky rice at Kor Panich and Bua Loi at Bua Loi Khet Kaew
Bangkok can be a bit overwhelming if it's your first time in the capital as it's so big, so I thought I'd do some videos to help break it down into sections so you can get some awesome street food wherever you go.

My name’s Gary and I’ve been living in Bangkok for the past five plus years and travelling Thailand for over ten. I’m obsessed with Thai street food and it’s that obsession that led me to start this KZread channel. I want to share my favourite hidden spots in Bangkok and the rest of Thailand so you can fall in love with authentic, local Thai food as much as I have!
I’ve never understood travelling to a town or city and not eating the local food. How else do you really connect with a place? Let’s get out and explore together and I guarantee you’ll find a whole different side to this wonderful country.
If you love seeing off the beaten path, non-touristy, local life and authentic local life in Bangkok and Thailand then this is the channel for you. If go go bars on the Sukhumvit Road are more your thing (I’m not judging) then maybe not!

Appreciate you taking 1 for the sweet lovers out there, duchess. I'm with you personally, but no accounting for taste! Never forget my 1st night in Thailand - practically straight off the plane - and I was in this gaff that had English descriptions on the menu but no dish names. Bit weird imo, but let's carry on! I wanted to try the bua loy and recognised it from the description but couldn't remember the exact name. So I asked the waitress for "bao loy" (like the Chinese steamed bun) and she rolled her eyes in the most exaggerated way imaginable, slammed her pad on the table, leaned right over into my boat and screeched "BUA LOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!" at me. She then picked up the pad and stormed off back to the kitchen, like some kind of kid at Toys R Us. Proper 1st impression that was, treacle! Just not the Thai charm I had thought to expect lol

Glad you are doing something out of your comfort zone today, Gary🤓. However, you have gone a little too crazy with your R sounding words, 🤣🤣🤣, as if you wanted to put those "lazy tongue-rs" to shame.😁❤️👍

หิมะ (Hi-ma) in Thai means snow. But you should pronounce it short in both syllables. But if you pronounce it long, Thais may hear it like a dog pussy instead ... LOL But don't worry too much, languages are about keep using it. ^_^ .. Long/Short vowels and tones made most of foreigner confused. The word หิมะ was borrowed from Sansakrit हिम . Many Thais words (and also many words in South-East Asian) similar to the words in Sansakrit.

Hi Gary, I am wondering if you could re-title this clip, you know, make lemonade out of your faux pas, as to gain more view from the inquisitive minds, just like Craig did with one of his clips, where he took a selfie with a Hmong lady who sold him a lucky charm. Anyway, he titled that clip as MY THAI WIFE, and he has over 70k views, last time I checked. You can re-titled as I ORDERED A BOX OF HORSE'S PRIVATE PART, ACCIDENTALLY! What do you think?🤔🤭😁🤣

Small ask - can you add some location names/dish names/maps to your videos? I understand that you often add this to the text under the video which is useful for those people viewing your video from a computer or phone. However, this is not very useful for those watching your videos from a TV (e.g. using a Roku).

If you are interested we found your channel from seeing your collaboration with Paddy Doyle. He is more "fun"...but you are more informative.

Yeah I’ll do my best Gareth. I always put the shop name and area but I’ll try and put the dish name as well. No maps though sorry! So you’re saying I’m the brains in the couple? 😂
It's dangerous sitting there. It's Thailand you know😂

Naaaah, compare to American sweets, from 1 to 10, Thai sweets are a 5, whereas American sweets are at 9, and the Turkish sweets took the top prize at 10, which is not doable for me. My niece gave me a box of Turkish sweets, pitaschio in philo sheets, drenched in simple syrup. OMG, it was soooooo sweet, I couldn't even take a second bite! Don't get me wrong, Turkish are nice people, but their sweets are too sweet for me. I will eat Thai sweets any day 😁

Turkish is off the charts. I’d agree, Thai is nowhere near as sweet as American sweets Panna. I think everything is sweet so I’m the wrong person to ask 😂
