VERY IMPORTANT -- this should have been covered on the ATM part! Do not accept the conversion offered by the ATM -- always decline the conversion. The ATM will sometimes ask you twice -- make sure you take your time and decline the conversion both times. Let your home bank handle the conversion. It should only cost you about $5 USD to withdraw cash not $25 -- plus maybe the same $5 by the local bank but nothing exhaustive.

If you need to exchange currency on arrival and you are also planning to catch the train from the airport into Bangkok, i strongly recommend using the money changers located beside (behind) the train station ticket office. You will get a measurably better exchange rate than at arrivals and they are most definitely NOT out of your way, located in the very same vicinity as the station. To find the currency changers, and there are three of them side by side, walk down the left side of the station entrance slope and then approx 100 metres, as though you are walking toward the Novotel Hotel (which is signed) and you literally cannot miss them. When done making your currency exchange, simply walk 50 metres back to the front of the station entrance to purchase your train ticket. Voila, two birds with one stone!! 😀

Nobody is mentioning this, but you need to make sure the bills you give them are BRAND NEW, UNMARKED bills. If there is so much as a bent corner, they will not take your bills. They also give you a better rate for 100s than for small bills. As stated in the video, the ATM is cheaper (and less picky).

I've only been to Bangkok airport one-time landing one-time returning. I found the money exchange better on floor B. Also I think it's the first floor all the way to the right side of the building as you're standing in the entrance there is a street food area inside the building where the food's much cheaper than inside. Also right outside on that end of the building is a 24-hour store for cigarettes or whatever

Wow, just arrived in Bangkok and I can't contain my excitement! This is my third time visiting this incredible city, but it's my first time taking the train to the city center. I have to say, your video guide was a lifesaver! Your tips and advice made navigating the train system a breeze, and I'm grateful for that. The train ride was such a unique experience, and I couldn't have done it without your helpful insights. The sights along the way were breathtaking, and the convenience of the train definitely beats sitting in traffic. Thanks to you, I saved both time and money, allowing me to make the most of my stay in Bangkok.

Great video Chris, with regard to money changing the big four Thai banks never give a decent exchange rate so it is totally worth going down to floor B or changing at one of the Superrich kiosks around town to get a better rate if you're bringing cash; you might also consider a travel money card as you can load funds in THB and the withdrawal fees are usually lower than using your domestic bankcard (i.e. Australian banks charge around AUD$3.50 per withdrawal of up to $2500 per day).

Nice vid for beginners. However, PRO TIPS: Health insurance is NOT a requirement to entering the Kingdom of Thailand. Also agree with everyone in the comments. Most important thing about ATM usage is not to take the local back exchange when asked. True has better network coverage than AIS. If you have loads of luggage don’t take the train unless your hotel is right beside a train stop. Seen people trying to do it and it can be really stressful for them.

Excellent video Chris’ and crew! This is exactly what I do each time I arrive. Excellent advice for a first timer as well. Demystifies arrival. Also if your hungry when you are at the airport, or waiting for a bus, the food court on the lower level is great. So much cheaper than the chain restaurants in the rest of the airport.

I have to say, the money exchanges downstairs on Level 1 are A LOT closer to the bank rate then you would think. These would be a better option than even the ATM. But expect queues. Of course, Transfer Wise and a Thai Bank Account is the best way for people who come regularly

Two corrections : 1. atm also charge a 200 baht fee for foreign cards. 2. Cheapest and best sim card deal is go to a normal 7/11 and buy a non tourist plan instead. It's half the price and no difference

One important note on the Airport Link. It only runs between 6:00am and midnight. Flights from where I'm from tend to get in right after midnight, so I've never been able to use this option. The taxis are pricey in comparison, but never had an issue using them. There are always plenty at any time of day or night.

Chris, I know I won’t be the first one to say this, but I would pay just to hang out with you and experience Thailand with you. I would advise you to apply for a "Visa Extension" before you leave. You can get one from a Thai Embassy although I don't know if there have been any changes since I applied for my 30 day Visa with a 60 day extension. You can always leave Thailand and do a Visa run but it takes time and it will cost you more than applying for an extension. Never carry more than 4000 baht and never carry anything bigger than 1000 baht notes. Avoid 10,000 baht notes entirely as you can make mistakes at night or in bars.

Good video again Chris. Just a note for people from the UK. It doesn't cost $5 per withdrawal from UK banks, they're way more expensive. They charge a percentage usually. Best to open an Online bank such as Starling, then there's just the Thai atm fee. Another tip, try yo use the ATMs outside the banks not 7/11s etc. So if the machine eats your card, you can get it back.
