My wife, a lifelong tabletop RP gamer, left her Twin Cities ten years ago, to spend the rest of her days in Belgium, with me. In 2008, on a holiday, we attended CONvergence in Bloomington and watched your awesome movie twice. Even had the honour of talking to you and the rest of the cast. The DVD we bought, turned out to be unplayable here in Europe... So thank you so much, Bill, for sharing the whole movie with the rest of the world! Wish you all the best.
This is actually really on target. It hits that Gamers 2 spot where it feels like it's laughing with us, instead of at us. Not sure why it isn't more well-known?
Oh god, my sides launched into orbit at, "It would be better yet if instead of a Lich's touch gaining levels, it gave us an enhanced sense of our own self esteem."
"I've made characters for games you've never heard of, and I've never played!" lol
I wanted this to never end.
My favorite line “Does David Bowies cod piece have a Buda nature? “ “I’m not have this discussion with you again.”

Jon: No, it's the Dungeon Master's job to create a magical world of fantasy and adventure where we can all spend an enjoyable evening together taking part in an epic story. Bill & Duck: ......... Hahahahahahaha! NERD!
Wow... these are my people. Great job guys. You absolutely encapsulated true RPG nerds.
This is the relatable content I’ve been searching for.
Its criminal how little known this film is... Though re-watching it reminds me how much of a sharp change there has been in tabletop RPG culture, which can be uncomfortable to dwell on.
This needs a sequel. I'm in love with this movie!
Brilliant. Never seen this before. And I thought 'Dorkness Rising' was the most accurate portrayal of an RPG group. I think this beats it, at least for all those obscure RPG system references. The script writer must be well versed in the hobby (and its foibles).

The original "The Gamers" is a far more accurate portrayal of an RPG group than the sequel. "Dorkness RIsing" is wonderful, but that seems more like what an RPG group _thinks_ they're like, while "The Gamers" is what the group is _actually_ like. "THACO: The Movie" is probably the most accurate, though.
Awesome. "I've made character histories that make The Silmarillion look like Cliff's Notes." :)
I cannot believe Aaron referenced alignment languages.
Just discovered this on 2023 and its simply the best rpg related movie/parody/whatever second only to the summoner "attacking the darkness" gag. This is just awesome and you guys were great!
Duck complaining about switching to 3rd sounds like are one player who made a 2nd Ed character with all his abilities and equipment it looked like a phone book
This movie is for all of us that played D&D before it became a pop culture thing. The conversation over the Satanic Panic hits home for all of us. Gamers 2 is highly entertaining as well, but I like the humor in this much more. Jokes like "GURPS Krull" are just way too specific to what makes me laugh.
I've watched this movie like 3 times. I love it so much.

Neil Gaiman cameo at 10:42 !!! It's the little things like this that make me smile!
I come back and rewatch this movie from time to time while I write my games. It's a really good focus for me and it's extremely chill and it feels like I could have a conversation about all the stuff in this movie with all the characters. I first found this back around 2015 and it's been as ever relevant then as it is now. P.S., the bookmark I have for this for some reason always jumps to about 35 minutes in, so every time I click it, I come back here and am greeted with "5 year old experiencing nostalgia" which has to be my favorite out of context phrase of all time.
🙁😮😲😳 How have I never heard of this movie?! I watched "The Gamers" movies as they came out but this one's new to me?........AWESOME!!!🤟💥💥💥❤

Duck's rant at 29:58 is so much more true about D&D in 2022 than it ever has been. Predicted where the game would go 14 years in advance.

@@MK-11111 I started D&D with 3.0. I've played every edition, and I prefer AD&D 1e most of all. It definitely feels like a much safer game in 3.x onward. If someone wants to play that way, that's perfectly fine. I just initially said that Duck's rant was even more reflective about the game itself in 2022 than in 2008.

@Unregistered.HyperCam.2

@@MK-11111 I don't mean to be judgmental of newer players, nor do I think it makes someone "tougher" for playing older editions. I said I started with 3.0 to show I started a lot later than the characters in this film. Likewise, I know people that have been playing since the late 70s or early 80s that prefer 5e today. I feel there's an inherent difference in the level of danger in the game itself from edition to edition, but it's not a judgment of the people who choose to play an edition that feels - at least to me - more or less dangerous. The reason I favor 1e, above all else, is because I got tired of the "build" structure of 3.x onward, and it feels less bloated than 2e. That's all. I have no reason to judge people playing different editions or different games, as long as they're not trying to dictate what goes on at _my_ table, which hasn't really been a problem.
45:35 Nice "Circle of Iron/Silent Flute" reference. Now I have to go and watch it again.
Dude! This movie is just like sitting around waiting for that person to show up (there's one in every gaming group) and all the crap we talk about to kill time. I'm guessing it's a pretty universal experience. Yes, yes, I know that's the plot of the movie, but... Honestly, it felt less like watching a movie and more like just hanging out with friends while waiting for that person to finally show up. SPOT ON accurate! Except there could have been more gratuitous junk food shots.
"I wonder what it would be like playing D&D high" "You'd probably sit around in a basement eating junkfood and talking about crap." Sooooo D&D night for my group of players.

Embarrassed that I did know about this when it came out. Have watched / listened this a couple of dozen times over the last couple of weeks and am seriously considering dropping a Ludicrous amount on ebay for the DVD. ( It has commentaries on it. Don't judge me. ) Can't find anything from Bill Stiteler online. Looks like he was doing podcasts for a while but can't find any site hosting them. Feels like another talented person has fallen off the map. :( If you're out there Bill, Really love this film and hope you're kicking ass today!
I have seen at least 10 times I would like to see him do more movies like this one.
I just realized that they have Rune Quest in their gaming room and they don't even consider playing it.
Roseville, MN! The old Source location in Falcon Heights. :D Awesome!
This is my first time watching this, the fact that they reference mazes and monsters they get the seal of approval! This is classic and spot on.

Oh... memories of games of my youth. We were not QUITE that geeky, but, still, it is a fun movie.
"I'm sorry. We were talking about to hit rolls. And then you started talking like Charlie Brown's teacher." - 29:25 I'm going to use the last bit of that.
Nuke York? All I could think of is "Rock N Rule". :)
There are very few good D&D/roleplaying movies, this is one of the greats.
I bit you get this a lot. But I would interested in see a another sequels to this.
Took me a bit of Googling to find this. I saw it screened at PAX 2008, but couldn't remember the title. Wanted to share it with my current D&D group. It holds up pretty well.

A good point made early on: Gaming is a social activity. And Social Rule #1 reads "People enjoy being around people that they can enjoy being around." Or in layman's terms, "Nobody likes a buzzkill."
