The lowest songs on the list still depict pretty terrifying situations: the cops confronting them, Paul almost dying during We're Great Again, but those numbers all had the same thing in common. In each of them Paul was not alone. It was interesting that you put Cup of Poison Coffee lower on the list than Roasted Coffee, even though Poison Coffee has a more explicitly sinister tone. As soon as he sees Emma frightened he takes up the role of protector. You see it in Not Your Seed as well, when he is with Bill. Wether he knows it or not, he feels a need to be strong for his friends, and that makes him brave. On the flip side of that, he is at his most vulnerable when he feels alone. In La De Da Da Day and What Do You Want Paul he is constantly trying to talk to the people around him and get some glimpse of normalcy, to show him that he's not alone. When he goes to Beanie's after What Do You Want he's not looking for a coffee, he's looking for someone to help him be strong, which is what makes it all the scarier when the one person he wanted to see comes out singing. Also the prospect of the unknown. In the lower-ranking songs he knows what he's facing: a race of aliens that could infect people to make them sing. In higher ranking songs he's just out for a normal day and confronted with his worst nightmare, which is that the world had become a musical, so of course he's like wtf is happening?

The crowds audible concerns at 3:52 made this scene even better, nobody expected the hero of our story to end up so weak. The "oooohhh"s are like the "oh shit it's happening" of the crowd.

I love how Paul is less scared during situations that could end his life, than he is with people singing happily 😂

@@megasauruss itd be pretty hard to do that, considering how many of the songs hes heard. sure, maybe survival instinct would kick in SOMEHOW and help him memorize, but did you see him performing moana?? he had seen the movie and didnt remember it. besides, at the end, he performs "show stopping number" which was the one song he had NEVER heard, also probably why emma freaked out so much compared to the others during it

I just noticed how absolutely devastated and/or heartbroken Paul was during Join Us (and Die), seeing his friend be invaded by one of the aliens. Near the end of the song, it also looks like he was about to breakdown overe his friend's fate.

I love how the sounds of Paul choking and gagging have just become a part of Let it Out’s rhythm

The best part of this show is Paul’s casting. You can tell the moment that he started singing and it was WAY too good that it wouldn’t end happily. No way they’d leave that smooth voice to only one number.
