If I'm correct, the majority of the development team switched on other projects like the half life vr, which is now HL alyx since around 2017, the fact that valve went too ambitious on game concepts but not focusing on the game engine(source 2), and other stuff that made valve completely silent on these years according to Tyler Mcvicker a d The Final Hours of Half-life Alyx.

2000 hours here, no mouse acceleration, got a normal mouse speed, computer isn't wack, ping is (usually) fine at somewhere around 40 - 80 usually. still get dominated by gibus snipers occassionally, and am remotely useless around competent or higher skill players.

Honestly, I’ve never played TF2. I don’t own a computer capable to play it and I probably won’t any time soon. But I’ve watched so many videos, essays, guides, and content in general about TF2 to the point that I’ve been taught about a good bit of the complex mechanics, so in a way I have gotten a proper tutorial on the game, without ever even playing it.

I ran it using some fps tweak mods and managed to get it running around 40-50 fps on a notebook when I was around 12, it looked like shit but still really fun.

TF2s graphics have changed very little since 2007. It will work on anything except a low end PC with Windows 98

If you want a realistic expectation of the lowest end computer that can run it, I played it on a celeron n4000 computer ($200USD in 2018) on integrated graphics with 4GB of ram. With all the performance config tweaks I could manage and 720p resolution, i got 15-24 frames per second depending on the amount of players and what was going on. It's rougher than 144fps, and it will occasionally be the reason you die, and the lower resolution hurts long range visibility, but it's still possible to have a great game and do well. If you have any cpu+igpu pair equivalent to or stronger than an N4000, you can play and enjoy tf2

- I do talk about the tutorials available ingame. Watch before you comment. - The F6 is a suggestion, not an existing feature. - Difficult Learning Curves do NOT mean it's impossible to learn the basics of the game. It means the game is difficult to IMPROVE at. Don't misconstrue the idea that i'm saying the game is impossible to learn the basics of. - I'm not praising overwatch, i'm comparing what I think it does better and what it does worse. - I never said it's impossible to learn the game. I said it's unnecessarily difficult for the majority of unfamiliar players. - I'm not saying TF2's learning curve is one of the hardest in gaming, I'm saying it's harder than it should be for its genre. - It's not a dead game, it's a stagnant game with wasted potential. - Once again, i've played the game casually for 5 years, competitively for three and made videos for two. These are the opinions i've gathered over that timeframe. If you disagree, leave something constructive. @@SirBalageG The thing is, not because something was made in the past means that it can't be fun, or a good experience. A bit of an extreme example, but think of old arcade games, like Pac-Man, or Space Invaders, or hell, even Pong. I got Pac-Man downloaded on my phone because it still holds up as a fun game. It's not immersive, and the graphics won't blow anyone's mind, but it's a nice time killer at the very least. TF2 holds up after all these years for a lot of reasons. The artstyle is timeless, better than "Ultra realistic USA soldier simulator No. 86". It also helps hide the polygons on the characters, meaning that even today the models don't look cheap or old. As someone new to the game, there is a lot of content to experience, despite the community starving for new things. And also, the whole trading thing isn't in most modern shooters other than CSGO, which is also made by Valve. These are just some of the reasons I think TF2 is still a great game, I don't really think it has been outclassed in all fronts by new shooters.

I think the descriptions on the character select screen are part of the reason there are so many clueless spy mains. Spy has the most bullet points, so a new player will think, "Woah! Look at all the stuff this guy can do! I should play as him." and select the Spy.

Valve needs to fix their game. Literally the most I knew of how to play tf2 before starting was from repeated viewings of Lazypurple’s “How it feels” vids. Frankly, MvM would be a better tutorial then what we actually have. Gameplay is different, but you have time to learn: “Okay, the robots like coming through here, so I’ll use this sentry gun my teammates told me about here!” BOOM, learned about chokepoints. “Hey, those guys are healing the big robot! Ima kill them with this sniper rifle” Suddenly, it was learned how to prioritise targets. “Uh oh, the bombs about to blow! Wait, Mouse 2?... HOLY $#%@ I HAVE A KNOCKBACK” Tada, basic pyro! That sounds good on paper, since the “Coach” system went out the window.

i kept using the mouse scroll wheel to switch weapons until i accidentally pressed q and realised it was a much easier way of doing it

As someone who played a lot of TF2 back in the day, became unable to play it for a good 2 - 3 years then finally came back to it with like 0 clue of what I'm doing in a casual match and finishing with a K/D of 4 - 14, this video makes me feel better about myself

I just got TF2 today. I freaking love it, but by God, what the hell is going on. After two years of knowing what it is & watching gameplay videos, I can only really play against bots. Edit: After nearly a year, I'd say I'm doing pretty well, & I can confidently play all the classes on any pubs server.

y'know, its funny, because Age of Empires 2 definitive edition, an RTS of all things, has an abundant number of optional tutorials. The William Wallace campaign teaches you all the basic game mechanics, and the Art of War teaches you the more advanced tactics that all the competitive players use. Its honestly pretty funny that something as Niiche as an RTS game teaches new players better than an FPS, something with much broader appeal

TF2 is the size of a puddle with the depth of the ocean.

"Depth" isn't exactly the word I'd use. Sure, there's lots of -engine exploits- mechanics, but they add complexity without adding any real depth, AKA, raising the skill floor without raising the skill ceiling.

I'm self-taught, and it took me around 400 hours to have general knowledge of each weapon, class, and other basic shit. So yeah, a tutorial could have been nice.

OK, U know Team Fortress 2 is almost 10 year old and it's still getting updates and loved by millions, New players can just start learning from keep playing it. If New players wants to learn how to play Team fortress 2, they can watch KZread. and Yes I do agree Over-watch is good game.

And even the best current way to learn (loading tips) the majority of them aren’t even correct because they’re outdated.

and yet they dont fix the bloody matchmaking, we get the pyro update, we get the scream fortress update, and at some point the heavy update. Yet they somehow dont man up and fix matchmaking to save their game and get a constant flow of new players? not to mention fix the broken offline bots and completely redo the training and make it for all classes?

I started Playing TF2 recently. All I knew was the things I saw in videos. Things like: Engineer builds things, Spy can sap them and backstab, Pyro can reflect rockets, Scout can double jump, Heavy is basically a tank, Soldier has Rocket Jumping, and Sandviches can be used by a Heavy to heal. That's pretty much it. And now, I have only 2-3 hours played on each class, and I'm aware of my strong points and weak points, like how I'm a terrible Scout and don't trust my teammates enough to not br spies to play as Medic well without seeming like a Battle Medic, and have terrible, TERRIBLE Sniper aim, and that I'm a moderately good Pyro and Soldier, while also being an okay Spy. Despite that, I have no idea what I'm doing half the time.

I remember when I got this game for free with the orange box, it was an awesome game, simple to learn, simple to play but included challenges. I put hundreds of hours into it, then I stopped playing for a few years, I came back recently and found myself lost beyond belief, new crafting system, insane amount of items and weapons to be overwhelmed. I used to play this game and I feel discouraged trying to learn everything new that they added, just imagine how a new player feels.

When i was played in 2015. 3h every day i learned to use guns. And i got some guns and items so. Ok nice ! And i saw that craft system and i started to craft something cause it was fucking hard to learn. ( And still i don't know... ) I had 100 guns. And started to craft in hope to get dragon machine gun for heavy and then i make scraps and some shit and relise that needs something else. I stop playing a game cause i lost some guns cause game didn't learn me anything about crafting. I back in 2017 to see update and back for nostalgia. And i saw some Inferno, items and competitive 10$ tickets shit ... I was fucking lost. I had more fps drops, skins some new shit and i came to Public server take case mode from other base... They added some shit hooks. And i deleted game cause those updates make worse then before...

Definitely me here. I played the shit out of TOB on the 360 and it was really fun. Saw the PC version had tons of new content and was like "Oh hey, that looks pretty neat!" So I bought the PC version and was so confused as to what was going on whilst getting hammered by my own team I just left the game and didn't bother playing until like 2016. At that point I picked it up again, saw the tutorial that taught me literally nothing useful, jumped into a game and got hammered again. Nope. With a community that toxic towards lesser players I don't think I'll ever play the game. Which is a shame really as the core game itself is good.

You're just having bad luck. If somebody hates you for being new, they're probably shit too. There is a command to turn chat off, and skins can be turned off too. If you still wanna play, you can add me on steam. I can teach you some things ;)

If you want to learn to play TF2, play as a medic for a good few hours. You will see how all the classes play.

Nick TheNick It worked for me. Just make sure the guy you are healing is in front of you and not behind. Don't rush in to enemy lines with one guy, stay back and heal the hole team.

It's more something like this: Starts playing, fucking dies a lot, plays heavy and kills two people, start watching tf2 youtube videos, plays soldier and can't do the jumpy rocket thing the guy did in the video, searches how to do it, still can't do it, does it, dies to a sniper, plays sniper because he killed you then it's obviously the best class in the game, don't hit anything, goes back to soldier, do more rocket jumps kills a guy while in the air and feel awesome.

Psh, why should new players even want to play this game? It seems to be a uninviting, over-complicated, poorly explained and severely outdated piece of shit. Asking new players to "git gud, or git out" will just illicit the response "lol k. I'll just go play Overwatch. This game will continue to die and we all know that it won't get replaced by a squeal. Have fun on your sinking ship of a franchise.

I've played exactly one competitive match, and despite it being competitive, it was easier than a lot of casual matches I've played. Not to mention how incredibly toxic competitive players are.

@@moistisverydead9191 There are two broad categories of competitive TF2: the competitive matchmaking Valve provides that you access by selecting the competitive gamemode in the main menu, and the community-driven organized competitive scene with leagues, teams, class limits and weapon restrictions. I'm guessing you meant competitive matchmaking? Also, I wasn't going to respond to the original commenter, but let me clarify: not all competitive players, whether they play in a league or just do matchmaking, are 'toxic'. Some are, but that's the case with all collectives of gamers, especially those that play competitive multiplayer games. Some gamers just suck :/

Alright, reading some of these comments I thought I might as well give my 2 cents on this. I've played the game for about 7 years and have 2.7k hours on it so I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. A lot of people on here talking shit on Justyn's points, in my opinion, simply haven't played the game long enough to see some of its major flaws which can easily be overlooked. Just because the game is "old" doesn't mean it should be given free passes. The fact that tf2 does such a poor job at EDUCATING new players on how to play the game is part of the reason why it's on the decline right now. That and the fact that the new updates are so poorly put together that it's easy to lose interest in the game. At this point, the anger directed at tf2 is pretty well deserved. Competitive games are rarely balanced with almost always having someone that "shouldn't be playing comp". Simply put, tf2 doesn't do a good job at distinguishing between what new players SHOULD do so have a better transition in the game. That's why you rarely see good snipers/spies in casual. They're attractive classes to play for someone that's new to the game, sure, but the fact that there is so much complexity to the game that's not accurately relayed to players makes for oddly balanced games. Final note, yes i do think tf2 is a game with lost potential. They could have done so much more with it. Competitive should have been implemented years ago for example. With all this said, everyone needs to stop getting so TRIGGERED. it's just a game, if you love it, then love it. You shouldn't just talk shit on a video because you disagree with no points to back yourself up. If you truly loved the game, then you should realize that at this point, there are some deep rooted problems wit it and openly talk about it.

I agree with the video as well. I am new to the game and have been playing for only a month with about 90 hours of gameplay. It took me a lot of effort just to master the basics. Hell, I still don't know how to do single rocket jump and i keep killing myself. However, I am still interested and yes I literally watched a lot of the videos here on youtube to at least understand how the game works and still trying to improve. Right now, Valve it seems really trying their best to catch up because of their rivalry now with Overwatch. Paladins might even rival them as well once the open beta is finally finished.

I've never played a game before or since that made your hours feel like they were important. A player with 10 hours and a player with 600 hours shouldn't even be on the same level. I don't care if you think games should be friendlier to new players, experienced players shouldn't be made to feel like they lost to a "luck" factor. I'm looking at you random crits.

game is going down dude even FUCKING FOOTBALL MANAGER has more players and even a beta game pubg has more players than a game like tf2.tf2 needs updates that teaches actual team mechanics.i played mge so much because i didnt like teams.but i realized that i should be playing with teams and learn more and i started playing with teams after 1000 hours of not playing with teams.i tried to play with team do the thing that they didnt do.but nothing happened for a while after that i learned about playing with team when to play demoman,scout soldier medic or heavy but it TOOK 700 HOURS to learn it.it needs an update that teaches weapons in tf2 and what class' made for.like i had no idea what to play so i thought healing people and seeing what they are doing would help if i watch them.i did it and learned it but other players maybe doesnt even had a chance like that.i agree points that FUNKe made.and tf2 needs more programmers that will actually updates the game

Well, worry not! There are many useful videos on KZread made by the community of tf2 that can teach you the roles for each class than how many years ago you tried to get into tf2! Just search the class you're most interested in KZread and it'll show beginners' guide/tutorial for that class.

It hasn't been good sense F2P and/or the introduction of hats and new weapons. Modded maps are still fun though.

I've tried playing tf2 atleast three times and I ended up just sitting in a corner confused about everything. And I have been watching videos about tf2 for years.

I practiced in offline mode for like 6 hours as different classes, decided sniper was the one I was best at, joined a 2Fort match... Immediately got headshot the moment I stepped out of resupply
