It isn't. The RoBro was designed as an entry to a 2012 community-made modding contest, the theme being "Retro-Futuristic". It won the contest, and eventually ended up in the game. The blood-draining robots you mention appear in Old Wounds, a comic released 3 years later, and look *nothing* like the RoBro.

the robots that appear in tf2 lore weren't shown until the Naked and the Dead, which came out in 2017, while the robro 3000 was added to the game in 2012. it's rarity is probably due to it being a unique "pet" item that hovers above the player's left shoulder.

Fun thing to mention, If you played around the time #6 crate was released, Valve actually gave active players a free key on christmas day to open the crate. You could also open any other normal crate with the key. It was the only time ever that Valve gave out a free key.

Honestly I wish they added a universal key as a very rare bonus drop in cases, not only would it be a decent tool for opening cases you just don’t have the key for it would also incentivize people to actually open and buy these old crates, but not at a rate that would cause their items to hyperdeflate in value. Items unboxed from the crates would have a star that would say “universal” to show that they were obtained from the key. The key could also be used as a form of high tier trading currency, but that would be an unintentional bonus.

To clarify the stuff at around 2:50: The "Exceedingly Rare Halloween-Themed Item" is, I believe, any Unusual hat (regardless of being from the crate) with a Halloween-exclusive event. For these crates, the effect could be any Unusual effect from the 2011 and 2012 Halloween events (just like any other Unusual unboxed during that event from any other crate).

It is a shame all these crates were locked with all those good and rare cosmetics if we look at the current state of the workshop.

Would be nice to bring back those cases, openable with a type of key I saw people talk about a lot, which would be a decently rare universal crate so that no cosmetics would be permanently lost

I got a logo siberian facehugger and logo skullcap, those were in one of those crates

i find it funny how all Permanently Locked crates have the coolest designs

The weapons from those crates were also not even Strange quality. In the case of Festive Winter Crate #6, they were also the only way to get the new weapons at the time, unless you bought them from the Mann Co store. Yes, for a brief time in TF2's history, there were weapons with unique stats that could only be obtained by payment or trading. They later added them to the drop table and have never done that again.

For the spooky crates if you opened an unusual it would be one of the multiple different scream fortress 2013 effects on a random hat

The Haunted Halloween Crate allowed you to unbox Halloween themed unusuals which are: Knifestorm, Misty Skull, Harvest Moon, It's A Secret To Everybody and Stormy 13th Hour. These effects would not be applied to a Halloween restricted item but rather be put on the hats we are more familiar with.

The spooky crates didn't drop unusuals but they did drop extremely rare strangifiers for things like the monoculus head and headless horseless headtaker

I remember my first crate was from the Halloween event in 2013, first hat unboxed was a haunted haunted hat

the older cases look nicer than the new ones we get now, now they are all repainted

Maybe it'll break the economy, but I'd love if valve released a special Valve Key. The Valve Key allows you to use it on any crate to unlock and open it; making retired or unopenable crates finally open; however the key would need to be special or hard to make. So an idea would be to either a. Make it a hard to craft key (like say, you need an event key from 4 different specific events like Spring, summer, autumn and winter to combine into it) or b. make it a limited time purchase item from an event like say the tf2 birthday? or my personal favourite C. So the golden wrench event again but instead of the wrench, you're crafting in hopes to get the key. When crafting you can get a number of keys anywhere from recent keys to ones that open older creates. The Valve key would be the rare version of it; so how do you get it? Easy. Spend metal to craft it! You could also use keys to turn into metal to craft for the key! The golden wrench event was unique as people used their metal to try and get the wrench. This caused the amount of metal in inventories to drop and the demand for it to go up; which at the time helped fix the economy with a "Money Sink", to avoid over-inflation. This could work if they try it again, although times do chance so it's still just a theory. But it's worth trying again imo. Maybe the key is 1 of 3 options they might do each time they try it; so there's even less chance to get it. You might get another chance at the golden wrench? Or maybe the new Golden Shotgun or Golden Pistol? *TLDR* : What I'm saying is, it would be nice if valve gave us options to still get stuff that stopped being release. Just an attempt would be nice.

I understand that the box is can no longer be obtained, but I do not understand why they are closed. What is the purpose of this? Valve and their idiotic policy xD

I’m pretty sure it was like this because they were designed to be limited time items but they realized it was stupid and haven’t done it since 2014

I wish I could of opened those winter crates back in the day, I was a freshman in high school and my parents wouldnt buy steam cash to gamble it on crates lol

I believe I have only seen one Haunted Unusual effect, a hat for the medic but effect & hat name I cannot remember.

Yeah most of these cosmetics can be unboxed from keyless crates, gotten as drops or crafted now so they are not particularly rare or anything
