Texas Persimmon
Hello, my youtube viewers! Take a look at my TEXAS PERSIMMON tree. I was able to harvest some of the berries. Pretty sweet and interesting fruit. It's been here for years and I never knew that much about it until now. Let's go!

Thanks for making this video, its good information!
I love those trees! Prefect for a smaller garden. Looks like a grape
the shape and the colour of the bark also make them look unique.
We have Texas persimmons too...they stain really bad..my boys would eat them and their teeth would be black ...haha..oh and the deer look them they eat mine 🤷🏼♀️?.best to you ~Dee

Hi Dee, yes they do stain. Thank you.
Those Are Interesting ! Looking forward to seeing the Jam ! Very nice ! Have a Great Day !
My chickens have discovered my persimmon trees this year. It's been a mad house!
I don't know about deer, but these fruit are crack to my goats. Found these in the back pasture (I'm up in the San Antonio area) so I've been trying to research them. Found 4 seeds in one berry so I am hoping I can easily grow more trees. Thanks for the video! I didn't know about the male/female trees. I'll have to take a look tomorrow when I let the goats back out.

Beautiful 🇨🇱
Hey! Do these seem to ripen with any particular season, as in wet or dry weather? I'm doing a bit of research on fruit in general and it would be nice to know if these ripen during the wet or dry season

Well, we’ve had a dry season and they are ripe right now. The deer seem to like them a lot.
My male tree died and my female tree can’t get fruit. I need a male tree but can’t find any around Abilene Texas area.
Those look gorgeous. I’d love to hear what you think of the taste and how you eat it. Fresh or just jam?

They are very sweet. Mostly big seed, but easy to just pop the whole thing in your mouth.

Yes they are very tasty. We have one right outside of our backyard
If deer don’t eat it I would be concerned about eating it because the deer ate everything. We have persimmons that grow wild on the East Coast it’s a tree can’t eat them until the first frost they are so bitter your lips will pucker after the frost they are sweet

putting slightly unripe persimmons in the freezer will neutralize the astringency
How tall is it now and do you need to prune it?
@therusticranchgarden

I do prune it because it’s part of my landscaping view. It’s a bit taller than me and I’m about 5.4 Thanks for watching.

Once we got a lot of fruit. But now, no fruit. I dont know why. Do you water/fertilize it?

Sometimes your tree can overproduce. When that happens, they will take a year off. To avoid that, you can thin some of the fruit early on, so the ones that are left will develop more fully and put less stress on the tree.

@@calebjones7989 it's been ten years. Tree looks healthy and puts on new growth that i cut back sometimes.
Try the fuyu persimmon later you should grow them if you live in central Texas
Are you supposed to wait until they drop off the tree? American persimmons aren't ripe enough until they fall off
Do you know how old these trees are?
@therusticranchgarden

Do you have female tree for sale or cutting
imagine cross pollinating a black persimmon, wild American persimmon, and other Japanese persimmon. then you plant a bunch of seed to see what kind of cross breed you can get

They may be too separated to cross with Texas persimmon 🧬 also there’s crosses between American and Japanese persimmons.
