My neighbors have persimmon trees that hang over my fence and are heavy with fruit. A wonderful childhood memory is my grandmothers persimmon pudding which is a steamed pudding and she served it with a sauce...maybe hard sauce. She cooked this in muffin tins. So good. I'm going to try to recreate that this year.

How delightful. My purpose for growing a persimmon was to make persimmon pudding. It's soooo good!

Planted a Nikkita's gift persimmon this spring and it never leafed out and died. I might try again in another spot. They sound amazing, I've never had a fresh (not store bought) persimmon.

The persimmons that we got were from Otow Orchard in California. If you look them up on Google you can see pictures of them drying.

I just planted two American Persimmons, but I might add one of these later on.

I have a Fuyu Persimmon that I keep pruned to about eight feet tall for ease of picking. It's loaded with fruit again this year but they all seem a little under sized compared to usual. Maybe not enough water?? Should be ready to pick early-mid November. I'd never tasted one before a few years ago but now they are among my most favorite fruit. And lucky me, they are pretty easy to grow and seem to be pest free! Even the deer don't bother them much.

I am also processing and getting ready for winter. It’s also really sad that my neighbor has a persimmon tree and all of it has gone to waste. didn’t pick it. At least the squirrels are getting a nice and fat eating all the persimmons I’ll be making a video later. Thanks for sharing.

Your garden is always such a treat to see, thank you again for sharing it! I’ve never really seen or tried persimmons before and something that strikes me is just how beautiful the fruits are. They have such a captivating pretty shape.

I was so excited to see that you put out a plant video! I have six persimmon trees that are too young to bear fruit, and I live in zone 5 (used to be 4) where it's too cold for Nikita's Gift. I wish I could plant them because of the small stature of the plant. I know when the trees do start producing, I will be inundated with fruit. I'm thinking that I'd like to get a real dehydrator rather than the plug N play that I have now, mainly for the amount of fruit that will need to be processed. I have a freeze-dryer, but I think with some things, I want the chewy-gooey aspect that dehydrating allows.

Wow! Your tree did great this year! I planted my nakita's gift 4 years ago. It was loaded this year and dropped all the fruit. I'm hoping to get some next year.

Well, I hope the pattern I had is what you experience: a Fruit drop one year and a good harvest the next. My treat is an old enough for me to understand if that is a pattern it is going to have every other year, or if last year was just an outlier for me, or perhaps the tree was under some kind of stress because our weather was weird. I will be interesting to see what happens next year and I hope you get a good crop next year!

Nikitska Bordova (Nikita's Gift) is very beautiful and tasty. This is my favorite variety persimmon🍊

I have an American Persimmon female, but the male I had died. I want to replace the male, but finding males for sale has been impossible. Most places sell unsexed seedlings, and sexed males are usually very expensive. If I can't get a male this year, I may break down and buy 4-6 seedlings and hope I get a male. I plan to put in some Asian persimmon this year or next too.

I had a similar problem, finding a male hardy kiwi that was of robust stock. I don’t think plant breeders put a lot of attention into males: neither into stocking them, nor into selecting for survivability and good blooming.

What spot does the Nikita's gift prefer? I have a young plant in pot here. But the information I can find is very limited.

Angela, i appreciate your channel for such specific reasons but lately i cant bring myself to watch it. Im still deeply hoping you're trying to find a way to speak about the unimaginable things our government is endorsing. Maybe through a hausfru friday about the importance of showing your kids/ family that community engagement is important? Please, Palestinians need every voice in this moment. As a native person it was so refreshing to watch a permaculture channel actually value us, please dont stop now.

Thank you for this comment. I have been sharing the videos of Palestinian creators on my Tiktok and have been pretty outspoken about it on my FB page. I am not really sure how to engage thoughtfully on YT without feeling like I - a whyte American woman - am inserting myself. I hear what you’re saying and I agree with it, I’m just not quite sure what to say on this platform and what it is my place to say. I did start a FB post this morning about companies to boycott hoping that would prompt some good conversation. I’m super open to other ideas. I thought about doing a fundraiser video but YT won’t monetize content around this issue. I also want to say that part of the reason I have struggled to make as much content over the past week is because I have very little motivation to do so. Everything feels very frivolous against the backdrop of g*n0cide. I don’t want to make it all about my whyte woman feelings bc what is happening not even .00001% about that, but I do known other people are also saying it’s hard for them to go about business as usual knowing what is happening and how powerless we feel to do anything to stop it. I’m super open to any convos folks want to have or suggestions of how we as isolated individuals can help. Thanks again for bringing this up. I really appreciate it.
