Texas fugitive isn't where police have been looking for him | NewsNation Prime

The search by ground and air in the Texas county where a convicted murderer escaped from a prison transport bus and stabbed the driver last week has concluded as the hunt for him expands, authorities said Friday.
Gonzalo Lopez, 46, was being transported to a medical appointment on May 12 in a caged area of the bus when he escaped in Leon County, a rural area between Dallas and Houston, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice has said.
The department said Friday that the search was entering “a new, expanded phase," saying some personnel will remain in the county and will conduct strategic searches of areas outside the original secured perimeter.

@Gene Connor Naaah, it's just a few bad apples, right? The deputies on the bus were totally taken by surprise and a shotgun only has a 10' range. The other deputy simply forgot that you can drive a car through a field. They kept their "manhunt" to a ridiculously small area because that's most effective, no need to look further.

what a suprise he's not there? i am a retired corrections officer and this stinks to high heaven. Lopez had help both inside and outside of this prison. we always transported inmates in handcuffs, attached to a waist chain with a black box locked over the hand cuffs with a pad lock and ankel restraints with a chain also attached to that black box. what the hell were they thinking when they put 16 inmates on that transport bus. the COs were armed and they didn't shoot this inmate? if this inmate is shackeled the way he should be this is impossiable to do. the Texas DOC screwed this up.

A inmate of this guys caliber doesn't just have the ability to take off his cuffs, cut open the door, and stab the driver while another guard carrying a shotgun is present. I'm a retired CO for 20 years, 10 of which in max. security/death row. The officers had to remain at the bus, all of them, because of the number of inmates still in the bus. His phone calls (all recorded in his unit), mail, his phone, and who visited him last are being investigated. He could have found a cuff key or used some type of metal to escape the cuffs, depending on where he worked inside the prison. If someone helped him I wouldn't be shocked, even a staff member. He also could be lucky enough to keep moving, gather clothes from a clothesline and steal a car by breaking into a house. Lots of theories are being investigated. He may even be in Mexico.

  • @cherieodell9048

I believe you and that makes sense. Something isn't right. If some of the prison guards or the police are really part of the gang... then I don't believe they have valid credentials. They're fake if that's really true. That's what I think. Now how hard it is to investigate and recognize that... IDK. But I just don't believe criminals would go to all the trouble to do all the training and the tests and everything to get hired on. They have forged documents. But common sense tells you - no Gonzalo is not Houdini, no he's not MacGyver. This whole thing is suspicious and some police do seem to be involved. I think most people are honest. But this whole situation just doesn't seem like it really is a random, unplanned event, and that just Gonzalo masterminded and executed it..

The officer you see is not a corrections officer but the only officer in a town close by who started following the bus because it was swerving. You hear the men on the bus screaming and this guy is waiting for backup and doesn't really understand what's going on except for he sees a prisoner running through the woods and a bus full of prisoners with no corrections officers around. So if you actually did some investigation before you reported you would know these things. Get it right! What is one lone police officer supposed to do other than call for backup when he's standing there all alone!
