Testing the wildest F1 cars in history - Automobilista 2

Ойындар

Ayrton Senna's Brazil win in 1993 marked the year of insane technology at the time. Outrageously fast cars with active suspension, Traction control and ABS. Williams started it in 1992 and all other teams were still catching up. After dramatic crashes in the rain, Prost was out of the race and Senna could capitilize on the SC restart in drying coditions.

Simracing is difficult. Learning how to drive fast takes time, dedication and persistence. Assetto Corsa Competizione is one of the best simulations with highly sensitive aerodynamics that want to be respected. Telemetry, such as motec helps with analyzing car behavior and finding major issues in the car setup or driving style. Special sim racing hardware also helps with becoming better, but certainly is not the solution to your problems. Load cell pedals offer better feel. Stronger but most importantly more detailed force feedback of e.g. direct drive wheels offer more immersive sensations. Though I know and I've seen throughout the years, people with entry level hardware perform on top level.

I'm not sure this really is too easy to drive without TC. It may be, but it's not as clear cut as you make it out to be in this video. The main thing these cars were relying on is the active suspension, giving the car an ideal aero platform in nearly all situations. Other aids helped, but it's not like the tire diameters or engine outputs changed massively from '92 to '93. Maybe the engine maps were more towards a lot of torque on low revs, but that should be the only notable difference and I'm not sure they actually made use of this as effectively as modern GT3 do. The reason these cars became absolutely undrivable in '94 was that the active suspension was banned for that year, removing the stable aero platform designers had become accustomed to and leading to unpredictable downforce losses especially over bumps. The banning of traction control wasn't really that big of a deal because of the massively huge slicks on the rears (it actually was a much bigger deal with the grooved and thinner tires they ran in 08 when traction control got banned again). The bigger issue RE: traction may be that tire slip doesn't bog the car down as much as it should. It seems to accelerate the same whether there's wheelspin or not, whereas in real life you lose a lot of acceleration when the tires are slipping too much. This also leads to TC in the game generally being more of an unhelpful afterthought.

I've found when racing the AI set at a fairly high level (110+) they seem to accelerate in a straight line faster than the player's car. It's more evident in slower cars/those with a lower top end speed. Quite annoying when you easily beat them in the corners then they drive away in a straight line - even when you're in draft.

Wow enjoyed it! Couple of things. i think the time mismatch is from some penalty you had? not sure, you can check it. may be pit speed or early start? The leaders post your pit was the one running slicks early, guess it did not pit and hence the massive lead

But 1993 was without refueling. Refueling came back to F1 in 1994. Also I believe in 1993 there weren't pit speed limits yet (which is crazy from todays point of view :D ) I think they were introduced after imola 1994. However enjoyable video to watch.

oh wow.. just read about it.. I was 9 when that race happened so I didn't remembered it well, except the opening laps you see everywhere... lol quite a senna move to use the pitlane as a shortcut :D@@pablomeloferreira I thought it was imola, since not only ratzenberger and senna happened but also I think mechanics got ran over or something.. and also I think a tire flew into the crowd from the letho start crash.. thats when they started to use safety wires to pretend them flying away at the crashes... but I might be that I mix it up in my head with other situations

if you want to invest the time in AMS2 for stuff like this, then you can go into the detail of the custom AI files. So you can rename each driver and give each AI in the entry list their own attributes around skill and aggressiveness. These custom driver files already exist for other eras of F1 in AMS2 and expect it'll be just a matter of time till it's been done for the hitech too. So Senna can be quicker than Herbert as you'd expect.

I checked it out yesterday and GT3 cars still drift around and are extremely easy to catch. Any kind of countersteer works. Still no skill required. New F1 cars are equipped with infinite tyre grip hack. I was just checking out 1991 Inteerlagos in Senna's McLaren and by accident beaten his qualy time by 0,5s - it's ridiculous.

@@nuztuz903 Yeah i't not that bad. I get it that GT3 cars are not the most extreme race cars ever but they are still 550HP monsters. The current handling is just too dulled down to make it challenging and intersting for me long-term.
