Active Suspension Tested - Automobilista 2 Update v1.5.3

Ойындар

In this video, we compare the Formula Classic with no driving aids against the Formula HiTech Gen 1, which has traction control. We then jump into the Formula HiTech Gen 2, which has full electronic aids, including active suspension.

Just been playing this new update and wow! An amazing change, the GT3's are on par if not better than ACC and extremely close to iRacing. The devs have done an amazing job.

I haven't gotten to the GT3 yet. As usual Reiza do a great job. They need to give some more priority to online now. If they do that, they'll win big.

Hi, I'm afraid you commited some confirmation bias, the only F-HT G1 with active suspension is the "Williams" (the generic M2), the MP4/7A has some features like TC, but no active suspension (in the ICM menu there're options for the active suspension in the cars using it, check that the McLaren lacks this menu). All F-HT G2, including the MP4/8, do use active suspensions, ABS, TC, auto shift, launch control (some of them), and DRS. Just for your information :) Keep doing good content.

Yep I could certainly notice the G2 was more stable. The G1 was more stable than the Formula classic due to TC. I did find the Formula hitech G2 to be very, very stable. I did mention in the video that the G2 was really stable. It was really cool to see how the McLaren improved through the different generations. Although the G1 was more stable than the classic, the G2 was far more stable. It makes sense with the active suspension.

I agree. We really need a stable online set up now. If they do this, they will won the market.

Love this update, I loved the game before, but everything feels better now. I ran a race last night in Montreal, where I could just never manage to get power down out of the exits and the ai would kill me on the straights. This time it felt so much more balanced and I wasn’t trying to overdrive the car to keep on pace.

I think the AI is still overpowered in some cases. On race starts, they have super grip compared to the player (maybe heated tyres)? I was doing some online racing last night in these cars and had a lot of fun. They are still formula 1 cars of course, but what really stood out is I could focus on pushing the car and selecting my lines, instead of just trying to stay alive. I also feel that the FFB is becoming a bit gentler...to the point where I am now running almost no damping on my wheelbase driver.

Really like the catalunya quick right left corner after campsa. And the Montreal track is epic. Some of those kerbs are like weapons on the ground. If you want broken wrists, drive the wrong way over the kerbs in turn 7 and 8, the second chicane. Buckle up 😂

Yep I seen that too. I think the benetton also has the DRS raising the front suspension to reduce the rear wing angle of attack.

@@hirotroid it isn't. The DRS raises the front to reduce the angle on the rear wing. Try it out. You will have understeer in the corners with the DRS active. Also, with the DRS deactivated, if you hit a kerb, you will notice the suspension raising up on its own, on that side. Also, there is active suspension settings for damper and reaction time in the setup menu. So the DRS and the active suspension are separated, kind of.

Is this the first game ever to come with modeled active suspension? I know plenty of games have featured cars which had active suspension in real life, but I don't recall any of them actually modelling the active suspension aspect of them.

I believe so. Or certainly, I'm not aware of any sim modeling it, mainly because it's illigal by most modern rule sets 😂. But I'm open to correction. They are great fun to drive.

@@GSSimRacing I've been wondering since watching your video, if it may make sense for spec series to run active suspension. They can get an immediate improvement in performance with minimal extra cost (assuming that it can be implemented in a low price kinda way). Combine that with some off throttle aero stall, and you could have an extremely fast machine even with low power. These things were banned from F1 for cost and safety reasons, but if they're implemented in a cheap safe way as part of a spec series, then they seem like an easy way to get solid performance with little hassle.

  • @GSSimRacing

Yep I think that modern safety would allow for it. I think active suspension would be ideal in formula E or something to give it something to shout about.
