Testing DIY Eposure Unit With UV Light

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I have my new 50w UV Flood Light, set up with a timer on my DIY Exposure Unit I Built using an old Table. Decided to finally tested so I can know exactly the amount of time I need to Expose my Screens correctly. Had to do many test just to figured it out as I did make some mistakes and had my problems that I needed to figured it out. Watch as how I resolve them and finally was able to get an answer.

    I find myself saying well i need to have the $5,000 press, and the $2,000 exposure unit etc, I let excuses stop me. Well here is a kid that washes screens out with a spray bottle because that is what he has and he just gets it done. Way to be man, keep this up. Hopefully others will learn from you, I know I did. And to those that support that stupid wall, is this what you're afraid of? That your kids may have to compete with smart kids with drive like this dude? I think we should scrap the wall and put in a fast lane for people like this.

    Thanks. And I understand you. That's how I was at first. I used to live in Phoenix and that's when I first got my idea of doing screen printing. But I assume that I needed the top equipment to get started and that held me back. Thought it will take to long to save up. Than I arrived in Mexico and I literally thought my life was over. I'm here in a country that I don't even know and struggle with the language. I believe that now it was really impossible to now save up to start a screen printing business with the salary one makes here. Than I read a quote, "If you really want something, you'll find a way to get it. If you don't, you'll just make excuses." This literally made me get off my ass and go after what I wanted. Can't afford a great press or materials, I'll just find what I can and use that to start. But once I pick up, than I'll start to save up for some good equipment. All I can tell people is to find a way and not make excuses.👍👍

    This and the other video were the two most technical videos on KZread covering exposure times for both regular led and uv led lights. Even better than Ryonet vids to me. I applaud you for going into so much detail. Especially when all of the costs of materials come out of your own pockets. I used to have a channel like this where I did made several diy screen printing presses and taught how to run a silk screen printing business for cheap using mostly common household material to save a ton of money. This channel gave me inspiration to maybe restart my silk screen printing channel again. Keep up the good work and hopefully the channel will start to earn you enough to cover your costs and allow you to make even more vids.

Since my other paper wasn't as dark as well, but since that paper itself blocks some of the UV light. You can say it help out a bit on the stencil side

    I don't know if this will help. Freaky! I have been learning from you but I also watch other videos so here goes. Other printers use OHP / clear acetate sheets but they double up! Use 2 clear acetate sheets to double up on the ink and ensure maximum exposure protection. I know that acetate sheets are restricted to A4 for normal printers but you can print multiple acetates to position on an emulsion screen. As the acetate is clear it will not interfere if you use 3 or 4 images to "expose" a print screen larger than A4. I hope this makes sense and hope it helps.

  • @TheInkBuildUp

    @TheInkBuildUp

    3 жыл бұрын

    Glad that my videos helped out in a way. And yes, I get what your saying. The paper I use in this video is call Albanene, and it's not the best quality for film but it does get the job done. It's very affordable but yes, the print is not dark enough since this has to be printed on a laser printer, and I can't double it since the paper itself blocks some of the light. So if I were to double it, I would be exposing the entire sheet. Now, when I do use that transparent paper, (the ones they use for those overhead projectors in school back in the day), I do double up the sheets to get the film extra dark but the sheets they sell here locally are on letter size, I'm limited but not worry about it since I do now have my own printer and I get darker prints compare to what I use to get at office depot and lucky for me, I do have actual screen printing film.

  • @excellentgraphics8414
    @excellentgraphics84144 жыл бұрын

    Good. Please make sure your screens are well dried, I mean properly dried and also a good measure of your sensitive liquid to the glue before coating. there is nothing wrong with your paper film it is only a way of beating high cost of acetate films. If your image is too light, make it a double layer of your positives, I presume you know that already. Thanks.

    @TheInkBuildUp

    I just watched a Led black light vs Fluorescent black light. The LED didn't fair as well and produced more ambient light than the Fluorescent bulbs. I just put those in my exposure unit.

  • @TheInkBuildUp

    @TheInkBuildUp

    3 жыл бұрын

    Don't know much, but what I've seen is that many are switching to LED and even though florescent lights where the main light sources for exposure unit, something about them causing something of them shooting not evenly light "can't remember the term they use" on the screen. As well since they last longer and require less power. But again, it will require you to do your own test to figure out. If I can find the info on these I'll replied back in this comment. *Light scattered is the term I was talking about. Here's one video talking a glimpse about it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hpOrmpWloJfeeKg.html Even though I had found other info from FB groups where they mentioned the benefits of LED, I can't find those. But if you feel that fluorescent lights are better, go for it. It's best to do research before making a decision and sometimes you may have to try both to see what works best for you. For example ive been using a on UV flood light that has work great for me but for my new Exposure unit I decided to go with UV LED strips to try it. Got the same results but still glad I gave it a try.

    I think the problem is your sprayer is putting out too high of pressure and then u need to post expose. Try using a sprayer with lower pressure and then let your screen bake in the sun for about 15 mins. Good luck homie.

    Thanks for the info Amigo. And luckily I was able to finally get the hang of it. I have less issues now when exposing. I now have a dehumidifier that helps me make sure my Emulsion is completely dry as well now I have my own printer that can print some dark films on my new screen printing film. No more going to office Depot and having horrible prints on that alabane paper. All that helped me expose better screens. It's easier to wash off my screens and no more blowing out the stencil as well since I only take a few seconds to wash out compare to before. But now the only thing left to do is make a better exposure table that will completely press the film onto the screen.

    Yes, it all depends on your Emulsion. I have low quality Emulsion, takes 1;40 but compare to 10 minutes that it used to take with a white light, major difference.

    when i started screen printing about 4 years back my brother at home. i use to use the normal white paper as my film and coat it with cocking oil and worked fine bro but i stopped because its messy, however, way cheaper bro. you should do a video and compare your albanene paper with normal paper coated with cooking oil. coat it with an old card and wipe with old cloth or tissue paper to remove excess oil then you can use it immediately no need to wait for drying because it will not.... hahahahahaa

    Yea I seen how they use regular paper and turned into film. I never did it cause it does look messy. And I would of try it for a video. But unfortunately I have my films printed at Office Depot, I doubt they would want to print it. Haha.
