Testing a DIY Powder Coating Gun

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I have wanted to build a powder coating system for quite a while now. I have finally got around to giving it a go. I built the gun entirely out of scrap fittings and stuff due to be thrown out.
The power supplies are just cheap 12v to 15kv transformers out of China (They are about $12NZD delivered)

Trick answer haha, actually more a mechanic I guess I would say. Kind of the average kiwi jack of all trades. Been a mechanic, truck driver/crane operator, got a law degree, now doing part time as a welder and the rest of my time is spent building vapour blasting systems.

Years ago, I worked for a furniture manufacturer which had a large powdercoating line. It was a 2 stage, U-shaped, chain driven conveyer where the metal tables and chairs were hung from the conveyer and, in the 1st stage they were sprayed with powder, then they moved through to the 2nd stage where they were baked in a large oven. If you could adapt that principle of doing the spraying and baking in the one location without having to move the work piece, you would considerably reduce the amount of applied powder which falls off and you would also reduce your handling (i.e. double-handling) over all. All it would take is a large enough oven (insulated cabinet) that you could first spray in, before baking. Chris from WA.

I would love the space to be able to do a semi automated setup. For the amount of work I do, it is nor really necessary.

Hey Buddy! Nice to hear from you. Yes one of my future projects is a larger oven. Its probably still a bit small for a bike frame, but if I can find the space I want to build one large enough to powder coat my vapour blasting cabinet frames. Hope you and your family are well!

@@ArmouryEnterprisesI've blown mine otherday I forgot to plug it in the 120v yellow transformer plugd it in the 240v. Iam haveing a hard time finding the little PCB board transformer to replace it lucky the 120v 60Hz static ark generator still working I plugged the big yellow transformer directly to test it. I just need the little 230v /12v I think it like switch's the RU 12v relay to control the foot pedal switch & to keep the opparator safe while using it. i just can't find this little split bobbin laminated transformer it's only about 25mm .if you Google this number shv-115-07 then go to the images it'll show you what my circuit board looks like problem is this person showing the picture he doesn't have a transformer on he's board just wish I could send pictures to see if yano.where to get one from or some alternative one Google that code & have a look josh the transformer would go where it says T1 on the little PCB board he holding you'll also see a static ark source generator in the pictures he's soldier wires straight across where the transformer would be just Google that part code & see if you no where to get one & let me no

I hope so, it seems to have potential. If I can make the electronics suite work reliably, I will look into making a more compact applicator. Thanks for watching!

Hey mate, yes the part being coated is earthed through the electrostatic circuit. The metal gun is also earthed through the ground pin on the wall socket. It stops the used from getting a shock from the electrostatic gun. Thanks for watching!
