One of our favorite stallions has passed. Wagon Stake was a true sire of cowboy horses and he will be sorely missed by this ranch and many others! Here's our tribute to a great son of Tanquerey Gin and the end of an era. In this episode we spotlight three Wagon Stake progeny, She's Berry Blue, Black N Blue Gin, and Stakes Are High. We think you'll really enjoy this one!
Low Country Cowboys is your internet destination for ranch life, cowboys, cowgirls, great ranch horses, and just life outside. We are an American family living out our dream of living with horses, cows, and each other! Its not always easy or romantic, but we wouldn't trade it for anything. From starting colts, to training cutting, rope, ranch and rodeo horses, working cows, cooking, playing with the dogs, and raising wild deer!! This is a special life!!

Nice team, I'm sure you'll find them very handy. Just a couple of things. ALWAYS I mean ALWAYS hitch the front of the pole before you hook your traces and they are called lines not reins.

My grandpa used Belgians on the farm. He always said that when it came to a team of work horses that there was one that would work and one that would let him. Great video! Thanks, from South Dakota.

When I moved to Kentucky in 1990 I lived way out in the mountains.. we had a 83 year old neighbor who used his team of Belgium's to do everything from maintaining 45 acre farm and harvesting hay, to plowing everybody's gardens to even pulling the occasional car out of a ditch...when he wasn't doing that,he was a hard-working logger.. it was a total art and something I was totally blessed to have been able to meet him and hear the stories and watch him work! He passed away a couple years ago, but he always said working with his horses every day kept him Young!

Your pair is beautiful!! Good job sending them to someone who works harness horses for a living!! When I drive my horses I always call them by name. One advantage to this is that when you get them in a pair you can, for instance, tell the lazy one to come up or what ever command you want to use to encourage her forward. In holding the reins, you might try holding them like an English rider does. Then the rein is actually held between you thumb and first finger giving your other fingers the chance to put increasing pressure on the lines for turns, stops and what ever else you want to do.
