TesseracT 'Sacrifice' - Jay Postones - 1-Take Performance from the War of Being sessions

Музыка

This is an unedited one-take performance of 'Sacrifice' - recorded during the studio sessions for TesseracT's album 'War of Being'.
I like this as it demonstrates a 'human' performance - you'll likely hear moments where the timing slips slightly, or I play something slightly different to the album version of the track (or make a mistake!).

@@zoedoesmusic4520 NOOOO!! My life is a lie. I thought that Altered State was the only programmed record-and I only discovered that several years ago. You know, from the first time I heard Sonder, I noticed that the china was panned weird. You can really notice it at the beginning of King. I ask myself every time why the hell it would be coming from the same side as the pedal hat because Jay does not use a china on that side but it all finally makes sense now if the drum kit they were using had one there!😂 Could it have perhaps been a drum kit Tomas Haake sampled for Toontrack? It would have certainly had a china on the left hand side and Sabian samples to correspond with Jay’s former endorsement🤔 I’ve got a long subway ride today so I’m going to give Polaris and Sonder a spin and they are going to sound like completely different records now.

not completely programmed recordings if i'm not mistaken, they used toontrack drummer to recieve the midi from Jay's electric drum kit and customised the inputs so that it would record as close as possible to a live recording, programming it in would take an unbelievable amount of effort, I agree though, live recorded drums better

Unreal, what makes this so good for me is that it's the most human (while still perfectly executing) this chap has ever made a performance look, a testament to how hard TesseracTs music must be to play and how the drum parts are written to serve the music regardless of a person's ability to play them. You can see (in the best possible way) the points where Jay needs to fight his hands and wrestle them into playing the notes where they are meant to go. It isn't all easy plain sailing for the dudes at this level, absolute graft. Loved it

I appreciate that it’s an unedited 1-take. Lots of covers/play throughs are heavily produced (which is ok), but it makes it hard to remember what a real performance looks and sounds like. I think that’s especially helpful for musicians trying to improve using online tools (like me) since it sets a more realistic baseline to work towards. I tend to be perfectionist, so any take with the slightest mistake will be hyper analyzed and it can be discouraging, so this helps offset that kind of thinking. Cheers!

Mistakes are a 'no' but a human performance that isn't 100% on the grid is perfectly acceptable. If you listen to the ablum carefully, the snares for example aren't always huge... becuase I'm a human and I hit differently each time. You'll especially notice this in songs like Tender and Sirens
