You are amazing, finding the spot to mount the battery on an ICE car requires a real talent, you are really inspiring!!

Part 6, going to need more coffee. Loving this build. My mind is racing. Also, I am twitching to jump in and help. I love creating as much as cleaning up installations. I am so happy right now. LOL

The car is done and I need to put up a driving video. It is a rocket ship. Being about 1000 lbs lighter than the Model S you can imagine the acceleration, it's crazy. New build coming, Model S motor in a Ford Focus, 4 wheel drive with a system I developed to do it with just one motor and no Tesla drive gear reduction or use of Tesla's differential. Direct drive to my custom drive train. It should be crazy fast and Rally-able, if that's a word. Parts are starting to trickle in. Build should start filming in about 3 weeks.

Small right angle bracket(s) to temporarily bolt the battery bracket to the lift

I imagine you are talking about my balancing act of the batteries. C-clamps would have been the better quicker solution but angle brackets would have worked too. We always have the right answer after the fact. Kind of like a football play when all us guys in the bleachers say " They should have done this or that". When your in the middle of doing something it seems all our brain cells are not firing, off course next time I have the answer.

In your opinion, how does the setup you used compare to what's sold by EV West and Jason Hughes (wk057)? Is there anything you'd do differently if you started the swap over today?

The issue I found is that Jason Hughes will not sell his controller without selling you a motor too. He buys the motors for about $2500 to $3000 and sells them for a considerable profit. If I remember correctly close to $7000. That's without any axles or anything. I paid $6500 for a sport performance motor with complete rear suspension drop out, motor harnesses and throttle pedal for it. Then I paid $550 for a controller. Ev West wants $3500 just for the controller. Their motors are a fortune too. You can buy just a bare Tesla motor for $2500 now. Just get a guarantee when buying it that it works and that they will stand behind it. The only thing I would do different would find a different power steering pump or go electric power steering as the pump whines a bit. I would also like a different vacuum booster pump although it works great you can hear it pumping. These of course are not deal breakers. All in all I am quite happy with my setup. I do buy bits from EV West and ThunderstruckEV. Both are great companies but the motor and controller prices are ridiculous in my opinion as I'm not rich.

@@Roadstercycle What an insightful reply, thank you. Do you have a specific dismantler for Tesla drive units, that will stand behind sold product?

I use Alpha Auto in Cortland NY. but I would check locally to see what's available.

You need 2 things: 1. Ensure no debris can strike the batteries 2. Ensure the batteries have ventilation to cool down Fire otherwise....unless you get those fancy saltwater batteries

My batteries are air cooled since I don't have them in sealed containers. I check them a lot and they have never got hot, actually not even warm. I also don't Hoon it. I take it to shows to educate people on building EV's. I kept everything open to show all the ins and outs, and of course give people rides.
