Tesla Model 3 VS Polestar 2: Shootout | Fifth Gear Recharged

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The shoot-out formula is very simple. One presenter, two like-minded cars. Which is the quickest around the track? Two four-door four-seaters which offer family practicality combined with supercar levels of performance, all for around £45k. By EV standards Tesla are now old hands in the electric car game. Polestar, on the other hand, are brand new, though the parent company Volvo has been around a while. Can the upstart create a shock? Watch our brand new series, Thursdays at 9pm on Quest or via Discovery+ www.discoveryplus.co.uk/show/...

Well Elon mentioned that from next year (2022) he will allow other brands to use the Tesla supercharging network infrastructure (if those vehicles are build to accept the charging socket and cars electronics software & electrical components can accept higher currents).. Now i would like to say that since Polstar did some up-dates for Polstar 2 (which consist in 0-60 in 4,2 and bigger better batteries). So, imo the build quality is far better on Polestar same with the outside look (subjectively at least to me the Tesla 3 looks like a bloated-fish even i-Pace looks better) and also this is a very important aspect since the owning is stressful enough presently without warehouses lots of delays for components, semi-conductors & spare-parts so, i feel like Polstar & Jaguar can fill that gap very easy thru they dealers, Polstar -Volvo & Jaguar that is why i think Polestar 2 or i-Pace are much better overall specially in Europe.. Hopefully the new super-capacitors with aluminum, graphene and Na-sulphur mixtures in the cells cores will be produced sooner for ev's to improve the present battery specs to charge faster, last longer between charges and discharge slower..

Times have changed since this video - this is now the equivalent of the mid-spec Tesla (long range std) v the top spec Polestar 2. In Australia at least like for like (top spec Polestar 2 with all packs) v long range with performance wheels - the Polestar ($103k) is $24k more expensive than the long range dual motor ($79k)which is still quicker, has a much longer range and access to a better charger network. The top spec Polestar is more expensive than a Model 3 performance (which is another step up again 0-62 3.3 sec) which is $96k drive away. It's just not a competitive offer.

@@garethkavanaghdixon7479 it's strange no idea what the real output is, the v5c lists power output of an LR at 361kw. Covert that to bhp gives you 484.. The LR is quick with a fully charged and hot battery, not sure my bum dyno says its 484 though. I suspect that the car itself has the battery and motors to do 484bhp, thus v5c lists it.. I E its the same hardware underneath as the same performance, hower I guess tesla software restricts max motor power to make it slower therefore probably around 370bhp ish. This is also why they can do the performance boost to increase acceleration by just altering the software to allow more power from the motors.

Second, to anyone who is still banging on about build quality, the Chinese Model 3s are up there with anyone, and when the German Gigafactory ramps up this will finally become the old-news it already is. But mainly efficiency. The Tesla has the same or smaller battery and has significantly more range. Because of the vertical integration and the fact all controllers and software run on a single bank of processors, and not a load of disparate modules (anyone else) the Tesla can easily manage 255Wh per mile. Add in over the air updates, and superchargers and the Polestar just becomes adequate.

What Model 3 are you using? the Long Range? The performance has 660nm of torque and 0-60 in 3.1 seconds...also better brakes and slightly stiffer suspension...plus it has a track software package allowing you to customize handling balance (rear vs front) and stability control...it would have crushed the Polestar on the track. And you might be saying well the model 3 performance is more expensive ($8K more USD than the Long Range)...but 1) to get all the options on the Polestar 2 that come standard with the Tesla you have to pay roughly $8K more and 2) the hardware is nearly identical to the Long Range, they just software unlock the more power (so it costs Tesla roughly the same to build it...aka for the same costs they are building a much more capable vehicle than the polestar). Specing out the most comparable polestar 2 to the model 3 performance, in the US at least, gets me to a price of $67,400 for the polestar vs. $59,000 for the model 3 performance. The polestar 2 seems great, it really does...just worse than the model 3 in nearly every way (price, range, power, handling, technology, adas system, infotainment smoothness, and imo looks as well).
