The seals are intended to run below the door drain holes. Glued surface edge flush with outer edge of door. No cutting required.

Did this - different brand but it's all generic - and it certainly makes a difference! Thanks for the very useful guide and the tips.

It seems that the drain holes are not going to drain as the rubber is below the hole. Ideally you want the drain hole below the rubber.

Install wasn’t too bad! It was actually a bit cathartic snaking that A pillar piece down lol (good feels when you finally get it all pressed into position!). I’ll take the car out for a spin tomorrow and see what the impact is. I did notice the doors have a “firmer” closing sound/feel which I like. Did you find that too?

Oh and have you tried one of the roof seal kits? The ones that fit in between the sunroof glass?

Rik Brown yuppp I have that same feel when you close the door. Haha yeah, that A pillar man, kinda annoying. I havent tried the roof one, but I hear they are supposed to help too

nukem384 I ordered a roof seal off Amazon, I’ll let you know how it goes

They have a seal for your glass roof, trunk and frunk also. I sealed all of those plus what you did and notice a drastic decrease in sound.

It's called "dB Meter". I have iOS, so available in the app store. Not sure if it's on Googleplay if you have a Droid.

No problem! Closing the door is slightly harder because of the extra rubber. The sound changed to a slightly lower sound when closing, kind of like a more solid sound.

It's pretty quiet in my 2020 Model 3 AWD (52-55 dB). The thing that irritates me is, the amount of soot and washer fluid that creeps into those door areas. I'm hoping these extra seals greatly reduce that.

Hopefully! That type of thing is like water though. I feel like that stuff can squeeze in anywhere :(.

I’m kinda worried about cutting holes for the drainage part. Will the water sit inside the seal? I’ve seen others just attach it above the seal. In not sure if that’s effective though.

You could do either. Honestly, the water isn't going to get stuck in the seal. I don't think I explicitly showed the shape of the seal, but the way it's formed, there's not a place for water to get stuck

Add some rubber cement or silicone inside the seal where it’s cut. This will prevent water from getting inside the seal.

The noise reduction you've achieved is probably greater than you think. Someone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding of the characteristics of volume is that the difference between, in this case, 75 and 70 avg is much greater than say the difference between 70 and 65 i.e. the relationship is not linear. It's interesting that, besides the massive performance of the Plaid Model S/X, cabin noise reduction is one of the biggest features being touted.

Yeah I see what you mean. Noisy interiors I think are mostly associated with non luxury cars. So Tesla sorta being a "luxury" brand, many owners expect the interior to be more quiet than it is.

I think people forget an ICE vehicle has an engine that mask the road noise. If you removed an engine from an ICE vehicle and it could still drive it would be noisy too.

After I installed the door seals, it’s noticeably harder to close the doors. Will this loosen up overtime?

Maybe a little, but I wouldn't bank on it because that would mean the product is deteriorating. I noticed a little resistance, but it's subjective, so I'm not sure how much you consider a lot.

@@ervindelacruz8 That sounds about right. I've never pushed the door with my hand, usually just throw it closed to avoid finger prints. So I do have throw just a little harder to make sure the door shuts completely.

do you know a good product for sealing the trunk? a lot of noice comes in there (put down the seats to notice better)

I bet you’re door seal doesn’t seal at the bottom. No need to cut just install it lower.
