Tesla Long Range V Performance convoy efficiency and range comparison - much difference?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
We’re doing this journey in convoy anyway so why not compare to see how much sacrifice there is when it comes to real world range and efficiency between the new 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance and a Dual Motor Long Range.
The LR used in this test is a pre-“highland” 2021 example with a heat pump but we’ve tested these alongside the long range highland previously and know they are pretty similar (the highland typically being a little bit more efficient).
Maybe you are thinking of changing but not sure if the reduced range of a performance will suit you. Is it too much of a sacrifice..?
Tesla do claim the new performance rear motor is more efficient so maybe it come close… let’s find out!
In this test we drive each car side by side on the same roads at the same time at the same speeds… the best way to get a true comparison!
Next video we start testing the performance 0-60 compared to previous versions (is it faster) and we have my full review on the new performance also coming very soon, now that I’ve covered over 1000 miles in its first week! I’ll share what’s good and what’s not so good!
Thanks for watching.

165 wh/km... That is just good not brilliant. In Bjørn Nyland's 90 kph test of this car (he did not do 120) this got worse consumption than an i4 M50, which was running at lower temperatures. And everyone was complaining about how thirsty that M50 was... so...
feedback: gotta say i love when you left the stats on screen because i can never remember the first cars numbers.
If you do the math the LR was driving way slower based upon the information so it makes sense it would be more efficient. Here is the numbers. Leg 1 P: 52mph 248w LR: 40mph 210w Leg 2 P: 47mph 266w LR: 43mph 226w
Nice video, thanks for the km tranclation
Cheers guys

@@MK-_-Rob There are other minor yet noticeable additions. The Performance adds brake vents and splitter so the front looks sportier, rear diffuser, sport seats, carbon spoiler, new wheels, lowered suspension. Interesting!
Got my 1st Tesla (M3SR) just over a week ago and the acceleration still amazes me, I've had performance BMW's yet the overtake in my Tesla puts them all to shame. Closest a car has ever got to riding big bikes where you have to pull out before applying the power rather than in an ICE where you have to plan a run up to the car you're about to overtake. Only issue I've had so far is some of the AutoPilot snafus like when I passed a car broken down on the hard shoulder of the M62 today and my car seemed confused and just slammed the brakes on as I went past, from 75 down to 50 in a second or two, lucky no one was behind me. Twice now when pulling back into the inside lane after passing a truck the car has emergency steered me back into the middle lane and I always leave trucks plenty of space. You had any fun(?) AutoPilot experiences to share?
@dangr3957

The acceleration is is the best part of owning a Tesla. They are just faster than any other brand and yet still efficient unlike other brands. About autopilot, I strongly recommend to turn that off to avoid any issues and use only the collision avoidance and general cruise control. Keep focused all the time!

You'll need to get used to what is known as "phantom braking". I recently bought a Model S P100D as my first Tesla/EV and that also suffers from this erratic braking on Autopilot. To be honest I haven't been impressed with the Autopilot and lane guidance/assist RELIABILITY so far but maybe this will be fixed in a future update. Try an online search for Tesla phantom braking and you'll be surprised at the number of owners experiencing this. Never had similar problems in my Peugeot 508SW First Edition.

Suspension is now softer with more damping along with new damping in wheel arches. More sound proofing in wheel arches, however, if your M3 is refreshed 21 or later, it also has the same damping in the wheel arches. SR, LR all other components are the same in terms of motor, drivetrain and components. The latest refresh has ventilated seat along with new ergonomics. The rest of the changes are cosmetic and a matter of taste. If you don't want indicator stalks, go for the lates M3 refresh. If you want a carpet as a dash, then the latest refresh has you covered. If you want to save money, then go for the 21 model refresh. Or just wait for the Christmas discounts and you will pick up Tesla for at least 10% less than current price.
Richard , A model 3 high land long range also has a 150 km longer range than the performance model. So this doesn't come as a shock, does it? Try fitting 18" aero wheels on the performance model and test again. It could be fun and it gives the right picture. Otherwise, it's just due to the rims.

Glad to hear that Tesla are finally sorting out the extremely poor ride quality on the model 3. Hopefully the Y gets the same treatment?
So Highland LR 223 wh/mi, 2021 M3 LR 226 wh/mil. No where close to the 10% Tesla advertises as the improvement. And Serge's comment that the difference is really minimal in ride feel, but said it is more noisy in the 2021 vs the Highland. Sounds like the bottom line is the Highland is a little quieter, but really not much other things to note as a real improvement. I would like to see that direct comparison run to see if that was just a fluke or if the previous car really is that close to the Highland. A lot of people could save themselves some decent money buying the pre-refresh car if the numbers really are that close.
Difference due to rims?
