I can't believe I bought this six-year-old Tesla. Here's why I did and what you should know if you're considering a used electric vehicle. Six years later, is a used 2018 Tesla Model 3 still worth it? My experience and review.

    As somebody who is about to sell my 5.5yr old model 3 performance with 60k miles on it, I’m super disappointed in the range reduction. It needs charging twice on road trips it used to do off a single charge. The range is down noticeably although otherwise it has aged okay. I’m happy to be selling and moving to a more luxurious vehicle. In 2019 it was the best production car in the world, but boy the competition has caught up.

    I’m planning to buy a model 3 in near future. I have been wanting to buy a Tesla for a long time, but here in Australia, we didn’t have good network of charging stations up until recently. However I heard that using a supercharger makes battery degradation faster. I just wanted to know that did you use supercharger a lot? Do you charge up to 100% a lot? How many average battery percentage do you consume for your daily commute? Have you been keeping your battery charge between 30%-80% all the time? What is the average summer temperature in your area? What is the total mileage your car has done so far? Did you have any other maintenance in your car apart from replacing wiper blades and tyres? Have you ever had to do maintenance on suspension like shock absorbers, CV joint or bearings. I’m sorry I asked too many questions and I have more 😂. Anyway I want to tell you that quality of your content is very high end. I thought I’m watching a million subscribers top end KZreadr’s video and then realised you are new to this. However I want to say you did a very good job and I wish you all the best.

    You can get a NEMA 14-50 socket splitter and just plug it into your dryer outlet. The splitter will only allow one side to pull at once- if your dryer is on, it’s running the dryer; otherwise, it’s charging the Tesla. That’s what I would do, as a renter, and to me it pretty much makes the whole Level 2 charger “install” issue moot.

    I have been looking at the used inventory that Tesla has because they will normally tack on a reasonable warranty on both the car and the battery. Something you won't get from a non-Tesla dealership. However, because of the terms & conditions with the current tax incentive, I would only benefit by getting a new Model 3. :-( Still, it is tempting and your video does a good job showing the good points of going with a used one. I already have a Level 2 in the garage for the PHEV that I own, so with either an old or new Tesla, I am all set in that department.

    That's great and all but I'd be curious to find out how much you are paying to insure this "cheap" Tesla. I currently drive a Honda Accord and am paying about $1,500 for insurance. Called my insurance company to get a quote on covering an old Model 3. Cost was more than double of what I was paying for the Accord and the rise in insurance actually would have ate the savings on not using gas. So no thanks.

Google obviously watches everything that you do ( and they own KZread), so I’ve been on both CarGurus and Tesla’s website comparing “ Apple to apples. I’m pretty set on spending more to buy a car from Tesla, as they give an extended warranty on every used car that they sell.And , they have all the accessories you’re going to want at the pickup location. Thanks so much for this very informative video.Well Done!

    On the Tesla website it said that their used cars’ batteries are only warrantied for a year after the date of purchase or 120K odometer miles whichever happens first. You said 8 years. Perhaps I read it wrong.

  • @ClipPlayTV

    @ClipPlayTV

    24 күн бұрын

    There is a used vehicle warranty which is separate and more inclusive than the power train and battery warranty. This is the 1 year 10K warranty. There is also the battery and drivetrain warranty which goes 8 years from the original date of purchase (or 120K) and this stays on the vehicle regardless but it only covers the battery and drive units. So two warranties total. The used vehicle warranty is like a regular warranty but not as long

The quickest way honestly is to use the Tessie app. I did so after I bought it. The quickest way on site is to look at the max range of what they have it charged to (which should be at 100% at delivery) and look at the original range to see the miles lost vs the original estimate

  • @JYLee-rr1sy

    Teslas are considered "luxury" and expensive to repair. That translates to much higher insurance costs. If you're deciding between a Civic and Model 3, think of it as comparing BMW 3 series to a Civic. Not the same is it? A Tesla won't have the mechanical maintenance requirements of a Bimmer but insurance costs will be similar.

    @ClipPlayTV - Luxury cars often use higher-quality interior materials and have features that aren’t available on lower-priced autos and are packed with more amenities. They also may have more sound insulation, high-quality body parts and aluminum or carbon fiber components instead of steel. Which begs the question..... what is luxurious about the avg tesla sedan? Would add that insurance companies probably only classify it because evs cost so much more than the avg sedan. If still not clear.... field trip time. Go sit in a model 3/y then climb into a jaguar i-pace, Lucid air, or eqs. And then you will understand why teslas should never be compared to an actual luxury vehicle. Tesla is an iPad with wheels and poor suspension - 😆

    It cost me $400 for a local electrician to install a 240 volt outlet in my garage. Took him 2 hours. Note that my circuit box had the capacity and an available slot, and the outlet was only 15 ft from the circuit box. The wire itself is quite expensive, so if your outlet will be far from your circuit box, the cost goes up quickly. If you have to upgrade your service or box, the cost goes up as well.

    Tesla ppl are completely lost connection with reality. Electric vehicles, especially used ones , are lemons. Battery failures , high ware and tear, and huge depreciation in price, are making EVs completely not worth it . Tesla is no longer setting up new chargers as they don't get any positive ROI on them , and with their high rate of failures, you will never know if you will make it on time, or at all. They barely scratch the 60 miles per gallon, which much cheaper hybrid vehicles are almost in par with, make electric vehicles lose value.

My 1986 Porsche 928S with close to 200k miles with over 500 miles highway range because of the 23 gallon fuel tank / 25 hwy mpg + 5 min fill up. Not the fastest 5.7 sec to 60 with the top speed of 160 mph and I know how to fix it.
